Breizh Sky Comes Good In The Paul De Moussac

Finally getting his ideal conditions and ride, TDN Rising Star Breizh Sky (Fr) (Pedro The Great) had his head back in front in Sunday's G3 Prix Paul de Moussac at ParisLongchamp. Dogged mainly by ill fortune since his success in Deauville's Listed Prix Roland de Chambure in July, the Alain Jathiere colour-bearer was reverting to seven furlongs following his creditable third in this venue's G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains last month. Allowed to stride to the front from his disadvantageous wide draw by Maxime Guyon, the Alessandro and Giuseppe Botti-trained 5-1 shot kept finding to ward off his G3 Prix Djebel conqueror Good Guess (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) by 1 1/4 lengths.

Breizh Sky, who had gained his TDN Rising Star tag with an eight-length debut win over six furlongs at Saint-Cloud before following up in the Roland de Chambure, had looked on form to have levelled off when going down narrowly in the G3 Prix la Rochette and when third in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere over this course and distance. Again missing out in the Djebel on his return also at this distance at Deauville in April, the feeling persisted that he was being continually found out by the lack of a strong pace to run at under hold-up tactics.

This reversion to front-running seemed to unlock his latent talent and Alessandro Botti is hoping he can use it as a stepping stone back to the big time. “He is such a good and brave horse and really deserved to win this,” he said. “After his good performance in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, my first idea was to go straight to the [G1] Prix Jean Prat but he was doing so well that I was tempted by this. We will go to the Jean Prat now and enjoy this victory.”

Pedigree Notes

Breizh Sky is out of Anna Danse (Fr) (Anabaa), a granddaughter of Danse Bretonne (Fr) (Exit To Nowhere)  who was responsible for the G3 Prix Gladiateur winner and G1 Prix du Cadran runner-up Varevees (GB) (Kahyasi {Ire}) and was the second dam of last year's G1 Preis der Diana heroine Toskana Belle (Fr) (Shamalgan {Fr}). Danse Bretonne is kin to the G3 Prix Edmond Blanc and G3 Prix du Chemin de Fer du Nord winner and GI Man O'War S. runner-up and sire Kaldounevees (Fr). Anna Danse's unraced 2-year-old filly by Birchwood (Ire) is named Breizhy Girl (Fr), while she also has a yearling filly by Attendu (Fr) named Breizh Danse (Fr).

‘Rising Star’ Extra Anejo Back on Track at Ellis

3rd-Ellis, $127,000, Alw (NW1X)/Opt. Clm ($100,000), 6-10, 3yo, 1m, 1:34.88, ft, 6 1/4 lengths.

EXTRA ANEJO (c, 3, Into Mischief–Superioritycomplex {Ire}, by Hard Spun), super on 'TDN Rising Star' debut last October when decimating a Keeneland maiden by 9 1/2 lengths and registering a 92 Beyer Speed Figure, spent the next several months on the bench before reappearing in an optional allowance on Derby Day at Churchill. He broke slowly and may have been a little rusty that day as he was fanned wide and closed late for a length runner-up finish to Federal Judge (Army Mule), who went on to be fourth Saturday in the GI Woody Stephens S. at Belmont Park. A more polished version of Extra Anejo went to post Saturday as the 2-5 choice tracked in second behind fractions of :22.78 and :45.10, reeled in the loose-on-the-lead frontrunner on the turn, and drove clear in a powerhouse performance to cross the line 6 1/2 lengths the best while geared down under Brian Hernandez, Jr. Tall Boy (Lookin At Lucky) chased him home in second with third-place finisher Classic Legacy (Into Mischief) another 17 lengths in arrears. A $1.35-million Keeneland yearling, Extra Anejo has a yearling half-brother by Tapit. The winner's dam, a 2017 Tattersalls December Mixed Sale purchase for 400,000gns by Mt. Brilliant Farm, is a granddaughter of G1 Aston Upthorpe Yorkshire Oaks victress Hellenic (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}). Hailing from the same family as English champion Islington (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), Superioritycomplex lost her 2023 foal. Sales History: $1,350,000 Ylg '21 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 3-2-1-0, $157,185. Arqana €2M Sensation Snags TDN Rising Star In Haydock Debut

Godolphin's Ancient Wisdom (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}–Golden Valentine {Fr}, by Dalakhani {Ire}) turned heads when selling for €2-million at last year's Arqana August fixture, and he was back in the limelight with a highly polished debut display in Friday's GPW Recruitment Carl Foster Memorial EBF Novice S. at Haydock. The well-supported 6-5 favourite hit the line powerfully and finished clear of Under The Sun (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}), attaining 'TDN Rising Star' status in the seven-furlong heat with an impressive five-length triumph.

Ancient Wisdom settled into a comfortable rhythm behind the leaders in fourth after a sharp exit from an outer stall. Bounding forward in the straight to launch his bid on the bridle passing the quarter-mile marker, he quickened in style to settle the contest in a matter of strides approaching the final furlong and surged clear in taking fashion to rout his rivals by daylight. The April-foaled bay took several furlongs to gear down and was halfway along the backstraight before doing so.

Ancient Wisdom, half to a yearling colt by Lope De Vega (Ire), is the third of four reported foals and second scorer produced by G3 Prix Minerve winner Golden Valentine (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}), herself one of seven stakes performers out of G3 Prix Cleopatre victrix Gold Round (Ire) (Caerleon). Golden Valentine's siblings include her G3 Prix du Lys-winning full-brother Goldwaki (Ger), GIII Robert J Frankel S. victrix and GI Rodeo Drive S. runner-up Luck (Kitten's Joy) and the dam of G3 Prix Vanteaux winner and GI E P Taylor S. third Platane (GB) (Le Havre {Ire}). Gold Round, in turn, is a half-sister to storied multiple champion and three-time GI Breeders' Cup Mile heroine Goldikova (Ire) (Anabaa), G1 Prix Vermeille victrix Galikova (Fr) (Galileo {Ire}) and multiple Group 1-placed sire Anodin (Ire) (Anabaa).

Galileo’s Tower Of London Back To Winning Ways

Labeled a TDN Rising Star on debut at Leopardstown in July, Tower Of London (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) hadn't lived up to the billing in two subsequent starts but was back in the winning groove there on Thursday in the Listed King George V Cup. Failing to make an impact when over-racing and finishing last behind Auguste Rodin (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) in the G2 Champions Juvenile S. in September and only sixth trying out his Derby credentials in the G3 Derby Trial again at this venue last month, the bay had some questions to answer here but was 11-10 to book his Royal Ascot ticket. Settled second throughout the early stages by Ryan Moore, the full-brother to the Irish Derby and St Leger hero Capri (Ire) took command 1 1/2 furlongs from the finish and was well on top at the line. There was a 1 3/4-length margin to Shamwari (Justify) there, with his late drift right mirroring his debut antics.

Aidan O'Brien was left scratching his head where the winner's exact Royal meeting target will be. “We're delighted he won, but we didn't learn a lot as it was a very slow pace,” he said. “We know that he can quicken, he did that as a two-year-old. There are a couple of races in Ascot, he could go either a mile-and-a-quarter or a mile-and-a-half. He might be a horse that likes to take his time and not be produced until late, Ryan gave him a perfect ride because they were going so slow he had to go. He ran bad in the Derby Trial and that was probably the ground and he was a bit keen behind Auguste Rodin here last year.”

“Looking at him, he's probably a mile-and-a-quarter plus horse who wants plenty of pace on in front of him and to take your time,” he added. “He tanks a bit, he's a strong traveller. He'll come forward from the run, as he still had a bit of a tummy on him. We'll play it by ear, but Ascot is the plan and we'll see then if he comes out of that okay.”

The dam's matings with Galileo have also provided the G3 Loughbrown S. winner Cypress Creek (Ire), the G3 Stanerra S. winner Passion (Ire) who was also third in the G1 Irish Oaks, the G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares S. and G2 Ribblesdale S., and the Fred Winter Hurdle winner Brazil (Ire). The second dam Diamilina (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}) was successful in the G2 Prix de Malleret and placed in the G1 Prix Vermeille, while this is also the family of the G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer (Ire) (Halling) and Diamond Green (Fr) (Green Desert), who was runner-up in the G1 St James's Palace S., G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains and G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp. Her yearling colt is by Camelot (GB).
