Galileo’s Tower Of London A New Rising Star

Hotfooting it from Sandown where he had partnered the exciting Stoute colt Nostrum (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Ryan Moore was in the unusual position of steering two TDN Rising Stars at two different tracks in the same day on Thursday as Ballydoyle's Tower Of London (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) planted the seeds of another Derby dream for Rosegreen at Leopardstown. Sent off the 7-4 favourite for the Frank Conroy Irish EBF Maiden over a mile, the full-brother to the Irish Derby and St Leger hero Capri (Ire) was quickly away before being anchored with one behind throughout the early stages. Moving smoothly on the outer passing the two-furlong marker, the imposing May-foaled bay overwhelmed Fleetfoot (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) a furlong later and despite veering left on the run to the line was still able to register an impressive 2 3/4-length verdict over that Bolger runner, with a length back to Magnetar (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) in third.

 

Tower Of London is the first of the nine foals out of Dialafara (Fr) (Anabaa) to win on debut as a 2-year-old and, given the comfort of this success, it can only mean that Ballydoyle's ninth juvenile TDN Rising Star of 2022 and Galileo's 40th in all is destined to dine at the top table given normal progression. O'Brien was full of praise. “He has shown loads of class at home and is a very classy colt,” he said. “He's a Beresford and Futurity Trophy horse, but he could also be one for the [seven-furlong G2] Futurity], as his work has been short at home and he's shown plenty of speed.”

“He's been working like a horse that could go back to seven, so we'll see what's in the Futurity nearer the time and decide but we won't be in any panic with him as he's a proper middle-distance horse for next year,” O'Brien added. “Ryan was going to ride him forward, but four went on and he was very green and babyish so Ryan sat in and taught him plenty. When he got there, he didn't know where he was. He's a big, scopey horse.”

Tower Of London is currently the last known foal out of the aforementioned Dialafara, who was a €175,000 purchase from The Aga Khan Studs' draft at the 2010 Arqana December Mixed Sale and who is another who has been solely mated with Galileo so far. Alongside Capri, she is also responsible for the G3 Loughbrown S. winner Cypress Creek (Ire) and the G3 Stanerra S. winner Passion (Ire) who was also third in the G1 Irish Oaks, the G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares S. and G2 Ribblesdale S. Capri, who presaged his two Classic victories with success in the aforementioned Beresford in 2016, was second on his debut at The Curragh and while that was over seven furlongs, Tower Of London comes across in every way as a pacier individual.

The fact that Dialafara's 4-year-old son Brazil (Ire) won the Cheltenham Festival's Fred Winter Hurdle in March only serves to underline the stamina gift that this family provides, with the G2 Prix de Malleret-winning and G1 Prix Vermeille-placed second dam Diamilina (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}) connected to the G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer (Ire) (Halling). There is miling pace in the pedigree, however, with the Malleret-placed third dam Diamonaka (Fr) (Akarad {Fr}) producing Diamond Green (Fr) (Green Desert) who was runner-up in the G1 St James's Palace S., G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains and G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.

Kingman Colt A New Rising Star At Sandown

Juddmonte's hitherto unraced 2-year-old colt Nostrum (GB) (Kingman {GB}–Mirror Lake (GB) (MSW & GSP-Eng, $113,061), by Dubai Destination) was let go at odds of 13-2 for Thursday's Martin Densham Memorial EBF Maiden S. at Sandown and came home with a 'TDN Rising Star' after producing a taking display in a contest won last year by subsequent G2 Queen's Vase second Zechariah (Ire) (Nathaniel {Ire}). The homebred bay was bustled along from the gates to occupy a forward pitch in second after the initial strides of the seven-furlong test. Making eyecatching headway from the three-furlong pole, he powered to the front passing the quarter-mile marker and was pushed out inside the final furlong to easily defeat Golden Speech (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) by an impressive three lengths.

“He's a big horse and had been doing well at home,” said Ryan Moore. “I thought he might be a little raw and if he started slowly he might not get organised at all, but I was able to get him into a good position and get a lead. He was left in front a long way out, which I didn't want to be, and every time I asked him he kept lengthening. There's plenty of improvement in him and I'd say he's more of a 3-year-old than a 2-year-old. He'll have no problem going a mile and may get a little further. He's a nice colt.”

Nostrum is the seventh foal and scorer produced by the dual stakes-winning G3 Prestige S. runner-up Mirror Lake (GB) (Dubai Destination), herself a half-sister to the dam of Listed Lanwades Stud S. victrix Hateya (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}). The March-foaled homebred bay is a half-brother to dual Group-winning G1 C F Orr S. runner-up Imaging (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and Listed Heatherlie S. victor Titus (GB) (Dansili {GB}). Descendants of his third dam Roupala (Vaguely Noble {Ire}) include this term's G1 Saudi Cup hero Emblem Road (Quality Road), multiple Grade I-winning distaffer Ventura (Chester House) and dual elite-level winners Queen Supreme (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) and Harlem (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}).

Expert Eye Filly A New Rising Star

Sent off the 11-8 favourite for Wednesday's Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Naas, Juddmonte's Apricot Twist (Ire) (Expert Eye {GB}) more than justified that SP to join the TDN Rising Star ranks. The first by her first-season sire (by Acclamation {GB}), the Ger Lyons-trained homebred tracked the pace far side under Colin Keane in the near-six-furlong contest before being allowed to stride to the front over two furlongs from home. Clear soon after, the daughter of the Listed Ruby S. scorer Erysimum (Ire) (Arcano {Ire}) was eased down late to inflict a 7 1/2-length defeat on Mount Ruapehu (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), with Magnanimous Mehmus (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) 1 1/4 lengths away in third.

 

“She's a lovely filly and I've liked her from day one,” Lyons said. “We have literally given her six weeks cantering and haven't worked her. She is after blossoming and I said we'd run her here and if she wins she wins, not expecting her to do that. I think the boys bought two Expert Eye's for the farm this year and both of them have won. We'll let her progress and no doubt it will be black-type. She's not entered in any early closing races. The rules with Juddmonte horses are they have to earn the right, but they won't be afraid to supplement if needed. She'll get a bit further, but we don't need to do anything with the trip at the moment.”

Apricot Twist is the second foal out of the useful dam, whose yearling filly is by Blue Point (Ire). She is a granddaughter of Shadwell's Mathaayl (Shadeed), who produced the Listed Chalice S. scorer and G2 Ribblesdale S. and G2 Lancashire Oaks runner-up Sahool (GB) (Unfuwain) who is in turn the dam of the G3 Cumberland Lodge S. scorer Laraaib (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}). This is also the family of the dual G2 Hardwicke S. scorer Maraahel (Ire) (Alzao), the G2 Prix Robert Papin and G2 Flying Childers S.-winning sire Gutaifan (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) and the G1 Premio Jockey Club winner Ventura Storm (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}).

Lope De Vega’s Alia’s Rose Snags TDN Rising Star Tag At Chantilly

Jaber Abullah's Alia's Rose (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}–Quanzhou {Fr}, by Dubawi {Ire}) was let go as a 33-5 chance for Sunday's Prix de la Butte Blanche, a maiden for unraced fillies, at Chantilly and returned to the winner's circle with a 'TDN Rising Star' tag after producing a breathtaking display from off the pace in the seven-furlong test. Racing at the tail of the field through halfway, she made smooth headway on the bridle out wide in the straight before quickening impressively for control approaching the final furlong and powered clear in style to easily outclass Karmina Bella (Fr) (Almanzor {Fr}) by six lengths.

Alia's Rose, half-sister to a yearling filly by Wootton Bassett (GB), is the sixth of seven foals and third scorer produced by Listed Grand Prix du Nord victrix Quanzhou (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}), herself a half-sister to G1 Prix du Cadran hero Mille Et Nille (GB) (Muhtathir {GB}) and G3 Prix de Conde third Capo Maximo (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}).
