Godolphin Into Mischief Homebred Rolls to Rising Star Honors

Sent off at odds of 2-1 despite a difficult draw in gate 12, Godolphin's Pretty Mischievous (f, 2, Into Mischief–Pretty City Dancer, by Tapit) did it toughest of all, but was there for Tyler Gaffalione when push came to shove and went on to prevail by 2 1/4 deceptively easy lengths to become the 33rd 'TDN Rising Star' for her boom sire.

Away without incident from the wide outside, the homebred raced four wide in the breeze just off a trio of pacesetters up ahead of her. Cruising along in hand as they raced around the turn, Pretty Mischievous breezed up to her rivals to make a line of four at the head of the stretch, showed some agility to open up when asked approaching the final furlong and was not fully extended to take it by a comfortable margin.

Pretty Mischievous is the second foal to the races from her dam, who shared the spoils with her sire's daughter Sweet Loretta in the 2016 GI Spinaway S. at Saratoga. Pretty City Dancer is a half-sister to Lear's Princess (Lear Fan), who defeated GI Belmont S. heroine Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy) in the 2007 GI Gazelle S., and was acquired by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock on behalf of Godolphin for $3.5 million in foal to Medaglia d'Oro at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. The cross of Into Mischief over Tapit mares has resulted in 13 winners, including SW Travieza.

Barren to Uncle Mo for 2021, Pretty City Dancer produced a filly by Medaglia d'Oro this season and was bred back to Street Sense.

Ghostzapper’s Loggins Sprints To Rising Stardom At Churchill Downs

Loggins (c, 2, Ghostzapper–Beyond Blame, by Blame) had a trio of bullet workouts on display for trainer Brad Cox and ran to the money as the 4-5 favorite with an impressive 'TDN Rising Star' performance on debut Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Away in good order from a middle gate in a field of 11, the bay raced in between rivals in a tightly bunched group. Third and traveling smartly on the far turn, he launched a three-wide bid approaching the five-sixteenths, took control under his own power at the top of the stretch and was long gone from there to graduate by a jaw-dropping 8 1/2 lengths over Easy Action (Speightstown).

The $460,000 FTSAUG yearling purchase is campaigned by the powerhouse partnership of Spendthrift Farm LLC, Steve Landers Racing LLC, Martin S. Schwartz, Michael Dubb, Ten Strike Racing, Jim Bakke, Titletown Racing Stables, Kueber Racing, LLC, Big Easy Racing LLC and Winners Win.

The Ghostzapper/Arch cross is also responsible for MGISW Contested and GSWs Proctor's Ledge and In Good Spirits. Loggins, hailing from the extended female family of GISWs Street Boss and Jack Christopher, is the first foal for his graded stakes-winning dam, a Popatop homebred trained by Cox. She has also produced a Flatter filly of 2021 and a colt by Authentic of this year. She was bred back to Essential Quality.

Zoffany’s Sakheer Oozes Class In Mill Reef Power Display

KHK Racing's 2-year-old twice-raced colt Sakheer (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}–Shortmile Lady {Ire}, by Arcano {Ire}), a promising debut second at Windsor in August, attained 'TDN Rising Stardom' with a wide-margin demolition at Haydock on the first of this month and repeated the dose with another imperious performance in Saturday's G2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef S. at Newbury. The 4-5 favourite was alert from the stalls and found a smooth rhythm in a handy third through the early fractions of this black-type bow. Tanking forward to loom large on the bridle passing the quarter-mile marker, he settled the contest in an instant when quickening for control soon after and powered further clear under minimal coaxing in the latter stages to easily outclass Rousing Encore (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) by 3 1/2 lengths. The winner's Roger Varian stablemate Charyn (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) fared best of the remainder and finished 3/4-of-a-length further adrift in third.

“His work has always been very good at home and we thought he would win first time, but he ran into a smart filly at Windsor [Magical Sunset],” said Varian. “He then won well at Haydock and he looks good. How good, I don't know, but he is possibly the best of my 2-year-olds. He has size and scope, he's very exciting and I think he'll stay seven furlongs or a mile. You can never really expect things to go as well for us as it has today, but everything is clicking. He is in the [G1] Middle Park, but it's next week. It's very soon, so we'll have to see.”

Sakheer, who was the highest-priced lot when knocked down for €550,000 at this year's Arqana Breeze-Up sale, is the fifth of seven foals and one of three scorers produced by a half-sister to G3 Prix de Meautry winner Indian Maiden (Ire) (Indian Ridge {Ire}), herself the dam of G3 World Trophy victrix Maid In India (Ire) (Bated Breath {GB}) and the dual stakes-winning G3 Prix de Ris-Orangis second Love Spirit (GB) (Elusive City). The February-foaled bay, who hails from the family of Winning Colors (Caro {Ire}) and Chief's Crown (Danzig), is a half-brother to multiple Group-winning GI Beverly D. S. third Lemista (Ire) (Raven's Pass), a yearling colt by Exceed And Excel (Aus) and a weanling filly by Sea The Stars (Ire).

CRYSTALLIUM (GB) (Expert Eye {GB}) was entered in both the G2 May Hill S. and Listed Flying Scotsman S. at Doncaster's St Leger meeting only to be denied a run with testing conditions and an abandoned fixture conspiring against her. The Tom Clover-trained granddaughter of the G1 Fillies' Mile heroine Crystal Music (Nureyev), gets a three-pound penalty for her impressive success on debut over this trip at Chelmsford last month but faces a clutch of potentially smart types in this Dubai Duty Free Full of Surprises British EBF Fillies' Conditions S. which has often been a marker for future luminaries. Some of them, such as L'Ancresse (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}) and Quadrilateral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) came from the Roger Charlton stable and his and Harry's set-up have an eye-catching representative this time in St Albans Bloodstock's Elegancia (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), a 285,000gns Book 1 graduate whose dam is a half to the G2 Park Hill S. winner and G1 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares S. runner-up Silk Sari (GB) (Dalakhani {Ire}) from the family of Barathea (Ire).

3.28 Newbury, Cond, ÂŁ20,000, 2yo, c/g, 8fT
HIGHBANK (IRE) (Kingman {GB}) obtained 'TDN Rising Star' status on his seven-furlong Newmarket debut in July, when he clocked outrageous sectionals, and takes aim at this Haynes, Hanson & Clark Conditions S. which has such an illustrious history. One of Charlie Appleby's kingpins among his enviable cast of juveniles, Godolphin's 750,000gns Book 1 purchase from the family of the German stars Boreal (Ger) (Java Gold) and Borgia (Ger) (Acatenango {Ger}) is taken on by Julie Wood's Newmarket winner Classic (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a Richard Hannon-trained son of her prized mare Date With Destiny (Ire) (George Washington {Ire}).
