Equine Artist Robert Clark Offers Print To Benefit Thoroughbred Charities of America

Equine artist Robert Clark will be offering limited run prints of a one-of-a-kind painting featuring American Pharoah and Justify with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA), the non-profit said in a Friday release.

The original painting sold for $18,000 at the recent TCA Stallion Season Live Auction and Celebration with all of the proceeds going to the organization. As for the prints, they are 16″ x 20″, numbered and signed by the artist.

“We are deeply appreciative of Bob's ongoing support of TCA,” said Erin Halliwell executive director of TCA. “The original artwork was highly sought after at our live auction, and we are thrilled that prints of this beautiful piece will be offered and benefit TCA. The funds raised will be granted to our approved charities working to provide Thoroughbred aftercare as well as health and human services for backstretch and farm workers.”

TCA Returns as Title Sponsor of the Retired Racehorse Project

The Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) has returned as the title sponsor of the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) announced on Monday. The TCA has been a supporter of the RRP since 2012.

The Thoroughbred Makeover features trainers from across North America who have worked throughout the year to prepare recently retired Thoroughbred ex-racehorses to compete for more than $100,000 in ten equestrian sports. This year, the competition scope expanded to include recently retired broodmares exiting the breeding industry.

“The Thoroughbred Makeover has really moved the needle in aftercare by increasing the demand for and value of Thoroughbreds in their post-racing careers,” Erin Halliwell, executive director of TCA, said. “TCA is pleased to once again support this important event that has impacted the lives of thousands of Thoroughbreds.”

The Thoroughbred Makeover culminates in a four-day competition, set for Oct. 11-14 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, and a symposium with educational, networking and social opportunities.

A full schedule of Thoroughbred Makeover events can be found on the Retired Racehorse Project's website.

TCA Awarded More Than $821,000 in Grants in 2023

Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) in 2023 awarded grants totaling more than $821,000, the organization announced on Tuesday.

A total of 75 organizations were approved for grants, which included 45 aftercare organizations, 20 backstretch and farm worker programs, six equine-assisted therapy organizations, three Thoroughbred incentive programs, and one research organization.

TCA's 2023 grants to aftercare organizations were bolstered by support from Hagyard Equine Medical Institute's Race to Give online fundraising campaign, which last year helped raise more than $35,000 for approved organizations.

“Thanks to our generous donors, we are thrilled to be able to award grants to 75 organizations working tirelessly on behalf of Thoroughbreds and backstretch and farm workers,” Erin Halliwell, executive director of TCA, said. “We are so proud of the impact our grantees make and we are pleased to support their work.”

Grant recipients can be found on the TCA website. Grant applications for the 2024 grant cycle will be available in mid-January.
