Chan Named Tattersalls Representative

Ben Chan, who worked for 19 years for the Hong Kong Jockey Club as a TV reporter and analyst, has been appointed South East Asia representative for Tattersalls. Chan, who recently moved to Newmarket, will focus primarily on promoting Tattersalls sales in Hong Kong, but his role will also encompass Macau and Singapore.

In addition to his raceday role in Hong Kong, Chan also covered international meetings for the Hong Kong Jockey Club and is a contributor to the Chinese language Hong Kong racing publication Hong Kong Daily News.

Chan said, “There have been so many top Hong Kong horses bought from Tattersalls over the years and I am enormously looking forward to promoting Tattersalls sales not only to owners and trainers in Hong Kong, but also to buyers in Macau and Singapore. Tattersalls is widely regarded as the European market leader with a reputation for outstanding customer service and I am thrilled to be joining the Tattersalls team in this new role.”

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore have always been important markets for Tattersalls and Ben Chan is a great addition to our roster of overseas representatives. Well known and respected in the Hong Kong racing industry, Ben brings a wealth of experience to the role and his knowledge and extensive contacts in Hong Kong and the wider South East Asia region will be invaluable as we look to promote all Tattersalls sales to as wide an international audience as possible.”

Tattersalls Renews Craven Bonuses

Tattersalls will renew its £250,000 Tattersalls Craven Royal Ascot/Group 1 bonus, as well as its £15,000 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Bonus Scheme, for the 2022 season.

The Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus will pay £125,000 to the first Craven Breeze Up winner of a 2-year-old race at this year's Royal Meeting, with £100,000 paid to the owner and £25,000 to the vendor. An additional £125,000 bonus, with the same split, will be paid to the first Craven Breeze Up winner of any of the 15 European Group 1 races open to 2-year-olds. Last year's champion 2-year-old Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}), a 210,000gns Craven purchase by Godolphin, won last year's inaugural Group 1 bonus after winning the G1 National S.

“The £250,000 Tattersalls Craven Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus reinforces our commitment to rewarding owners with multiple bonuses,” said Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony. “The introduction of the bonus last year immediately captured the imagination of owners and trainers and we were delighted that European champion 2-year-old Native Trail was able to collect the £125,000 Tattersalls Craven Group 1 Bonus for Godolphin.

“The bonuses further enhance the appeal of a sale which annually produces a consistent flow of top class 2-year-olds, with last year's graduates also including Group 2 winners Asymmetric and Go Bears Go.

“Running alongside the ever-popular £15,000 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Bonus, the multiple bonuses reward numerous owners and as Native Trail demonstrated, the prospect of an owner winning multiple Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Bonuses is very real.”

Tattersalls Appoints New German, Scandinavian Representatives

Tattersalls has appointed Tina Rau as its representative in Germany, and Tina Henriksson as its representative in Scandinavia.

Rau, who operates Tina Rau Bloodstock, has purchased multiple Classic winners, including 2020 German 2000 Guineas winner Fearless King (GB) (Kingman {GB}) from Tattersalls.

“Tattersalls has always been held in the highest esteem by German breeders, owners and trainers and I am excited to be joining the Tattersalls team,” she said. “Tattersalls is recognised in Germany as the European market-leader and I am looking forward to promoting Tattersalls in Germany and to assisting German vendors and purchasers with their visits to Newmarket.”

Henriksson, who is based at Bro Park in Sweden, was an amateur jockey and now holds an amateur trainer's license as well as being a physiotherapist and equine therapist.

“I am thrilled to be joining Tattersalls as representative for Scandinavia,” said Henriksson. “The racing industry in Scandinavia continues to grow, with more horses competing on the global stage and more horses being imported each year, and I am relishing the opportunity to bring clients from Sweden, Norway and Denmark to Newmarket to buy at the numerous market-leading sales staged by Tattersalls.”
