Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale Remains At Park Paddocks In 2021

Tattersalls Ireland are pleased to confirm the September Yearling Sale will return to its original scheduled dates of Tuesday, Sept. 21 – Wednesday, Sept. 22 whilst remaining at Park Paddocks in Newmarket. Part II will now take place on Wednesday, the second day of the September Sale, following on immediately after Part I.

The September Yearling Sale lotting and boxing is now underway with 500 quality yearlings catalogued for Part I and just over 100 yearlings catalogued for Part II. All yearlings catalogued will be candidates for the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes which takes place at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend. As well as the big pot for purchasers, the vendor of the winning horse will also drive away in an Overlander 2-stall horsebox.

Graduates of the September Yearling Sale have been excelling on the track this season with Helvic Dream winning the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. A number of impressive 2 year old winners were sourced at last year's sale, most notably Hermana Estrella who claimed Group 3 victory on debut as well as Go Bears Go who was narrowly beaten at Royal Ascot but later powered home to win the Group 2 Railway Stakes at the Curragh. Beauty Inspire remains unbeaten and put in a fine effort on Saturday to win the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane.

Showcasing’s Ehraz A New Rising Star At Ascot

Shadwell's 180,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 graduate Ehraz (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) encountered a race-fit Noble Truth (Fr) (Kingman {GB}) when running on for a two-length second in his July 9 debut tackling seven furlongs at Newmarket. Justifying odds-on favouritism in Friday's renowned six-furlong Crocker Bulteel Maiden at Ascot, the flamboyant chestnut left 10 rivals floundering in his wake and powered to 'TDN Rising Stardom' by daylight. The 4-9 pick broke in the second rank and found cover in a handy fourth through the early fractions. Angled into the clear approaching the quarter-mile pole, he cruised to the front hard on the bridle with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining and powered clear under minimal coaxing in the latter stages to easily outclass Buoyant (Ire) (Awtaad {Ire}) by an impressive 4 1/4 lengths.

“He ran a super race first time out at Newmarket when he was slowly away,” said winning rider Jim Crowley. “He'd been like that at home so the winner got away from him although I think he was beaten by a very good horse. He felt like a seven-furlong horse when I rode him work and, dropping back a furlong, I think he did it nicely. He's going to get quicker for racing and, being by Showcasing, I think he'll be just as effective on softer ground. He's got a lovely temperament and is very laid back. This race always throws up a good horse and, hopefully, he keeps progressing.”

Ehraz is the first of three foals produced by an unraced half-sister to G1 King's Stand S. third and G2 Temple S.-winning sire Pearl Secret (GB) (Compton Place {GB}). The March-foaled chestnut is full-brother to a weanling filly and half to a yearling colt by Havana Grey (GB). His stakes-winning second dam Our Little Secret (Ire) (Rossini) is the leading performer out of a multiple-winning half-sister to G3 Premio Omenoni victrix Palacegate Episode (Ire) (Drumalis {Ire}). Descendants of the latter include G3 Polar Cup-winning Scandinavian champion King Quantas (Ire) (Danehill), G3 Anglesey S. placegetter Kamado (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) and Listed Flame of Tara S. runner-up Longing To Dance (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}).

Australia’s Point Lonsdale Takes The Tyros

It looked straightforward on paper for Ballydoyle's TDN Rising Star Point Lonsdale (Ire) (Australia {GB}) ahead of Thursday's G3 Japan Racing Association Tyros S. and that was the case as the full-brother to Broome (Ire) justified 1-8 favouritism in Leopardstown's juvenile pointer. Racing in second early after a slightly tardy start, the June 19 Listed Chesham S. winner took control two out and stayed on strongly to register a three-length verdict over Maritime Wings (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}). “He got a lead today, which was nice as in his last two races he had to be very forward,” commented Aidan O'Brien, who was registering an eighth consecutive success in this often-informative contest. “He was around a bend for the first time, he loved that ground, put his head down and quickened well. It will be the [G2] Futurity [at The Curragh Aug. 21] and, all being well, then the [G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien] National [at The Curragh Sept. 12]. He is very off-handed and straightforward and he has no problem over seven furlongs, so he won't be stepping up yet. He looks like he'll stay well, but has loads of speed. From the first day we worked him he was exciting–he was so forward and showing so much, which is why he's where he is today.”

Point Lonsdale, who had the third-placed Unconquerable (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) 5 1/2 lengths back on his impressive debut at The Curragh June 2 and 6 1/2 lengths behind in this race, is a more precocious sort than his full-sibling who was making his debut at around this time three years ago. Broome, who lines up in Saturday's G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco S., was runner-up in the G2 Champions Juvenile S. and G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at two before winning the G3 Ballysax S. and G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial and finishing fourth in the G1 Epsom Derby the following season. Back better than ever this term, he has won the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, G2 Mooresbridge S. and G3 Alleged S. and been second in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and G2 Hardwicke S.

The dam Sweepstake (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), who also has a yearling filly by Lope de Vega (Ire), was a speedy performer who was successful in the Listed National S. over five furlongs and was third in the G3 Princess Margaret S. over an extra furlong for the Richard Hannon stable. Later second in the GIII Appalachian S. at a mile for the David Carroll barn, she hails from the Hesmonds Stud family of the G3 Fred Darling S. winner Bulaxie (GB) (Bustino {GB}) and the G3 Prix de la Nonette scorer Dust Dancer (GB) (Suave Dancer). Under Bulaxie are the G2 Premio Lydia Tesio scorer Claxon (GB) (Caerleon) and the GIII Hillsborough S. winner and G1 Nassau S. runner-up Cassydora (GB) (Darshaan {GB}), with the latter responsible for the dual G3 Curragh Cup scorer Ernest Hemingway (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), his listed-winning full-sister South Sea Pearl (Ire) and the G3 Prix d'Aumale winner Toulifaut (Ire) (Frankel {GB}).

Dust Dancer produced Spotlight (GB) (Dr Fong), who took the GII Lake Placid H. before throwing the G3 Bengough S. winner Projection (GB), who shares Acclamation (GB) as a sire with Sweepstake. She is also the third dam of last yer's G1 St Leger runner-up Berkshire Rocco (Fr) (Sir Percy {GB}) and of Tyranny (GB) (Machiavellian) who was responsible for the G1 Phoenix S.-winning sire Zoffany (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), Rostropovich (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) who was second in the G1 Irish Derby and Wilshire Boulevard (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) who captured the G3 Anglesey S.

Mehmas’s Beauty Inspire Takes The Anglesey

Hammered down to 1-2 favourite for Saturday's G3 Jebel Ali Racecourse and Stables Anglesey S. at The Curragh following his impressive winning debut over six furlongs here June 25, Beauty Inspire (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) duly landed the gamble after a tussle with Andreas Vesalius (Ire) (Caravaggio) and Hadman (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). Keen early tracking that duo, the Ger Lyons trainee looked poised for a facile win two out but ultimately had to work to get to the front passing the furlong pole. Grinding it out from there, the Beauty Stable Partnership's chestnut had 1 1/4 lengths to spare over the former in a race marred by the injury to the filly Daisy Peers (GB) (New Bay {GB}). “I was a little bit disappointed he was keen, as beforehand he goes down like a lamb,” commented Keane, who was initiating a group-race double on the card. “He doesn't usually do that at home. He is only a baby and having his second racecourse start, so maybe he was a little bit fresh and eager to get on with it. I was impressed the way he toughed it out considering the way he did it. I'd like to think you would see a better horse the next day with that experience under his belt hopefully.”

Assistant trainer Shane Lyons added, “He wasn't as visually impressive as the first day, but the first day was only a maiden. To be honest, it looks like he hasn't learned an awful lot from the first day. He was very keen in the race and probably disappointed himself a little, as he's a horse that can't hit the front too soon because he's still a baby. He did fight for Colin after. He's a Christian at home and he's obviously a very good horse. We'll take him home and let him tell us when he's ready again. It could be the [G1] Phoenix [at The Curragh Aug. 8] or the [G1] Middle Park [at Newmarket Sept. 25]. He has entries in York as well. Colin said he loved the ground, which is a help. He's a lovely horse, we knew that the first day and we would have been disappointed today if he had been beaten.”

Beauty Inspire is out of Darwell (Ire) (Zamindar), who is a daughter of the G2 Queen Mary S.-placed Ceedwell (GB) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) from the family of the German group 3-winning sprinter Mis Gazon (Ire) (Royal Academy). Her yearling colt is by Dragon Pulse (Ire).
