Frankel’s Majestic Glory Claims Sweet Solera Success

Following up a breakthrough score tackling six furlongs at Newmarket at the end of last month, Andrew Balding trainee Majestic Glory (GB) (Frankel {GB}) returned to the scene of that success to claim a determined first stakes success in Saturday's G3 100% Racingtv Profits Back To Racing Sweet Solera S. over seven furlongs. The 5-1 chance had earlier backed up a July 5 debut eighth at Windsor with a July 16 second at Newbury, both over six furlongs, and raced in a share of third along the far-side rail after the initial exchanges of this black-type bow. Angled into an open path approaching the quarter-mile marker, she gained control at the foot of the hill and was ridden out on the climb to hold the persistent threat of Wild Beauty (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and the pacesetting Value Theory (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) by a length and 1 1/4 lengths.

“This is our first adventure and on the Flat and it doesn't get much better racing up in this class,” said winning owner Gearoid Costelloe. “She did it well to come through the gap she had to go through as well and I'm very happy. Andrew [Balding] kept saying she keeps improving, he was very confident this morning and thankfully he was right. It all worked out, it's fantastic to have a winner here and it was very important getting the black-type. She was bred to go over further so to win over six furlongs last time was a bonus and, hopefully, she will go on from this. We've not got a plan and will do whatever Andrew tells us, he is doing a very good job and we will just follow him.”

Winning rider David Probert added, “It was a quick turnaround, but she has got a great attitude and handles this track very well. She got slightly boxed in along the rail, but she is small enough and nimble enough to find her way out of trouble. She has hit the rising ground well and is progressing quite nicely.”

Majestic Glory is the third of five foals and first black-type scorer for Bella Nouf (GB) (Dansili {GB}), who is a dual-winning half-sister to three stakes performers headed by Listed Lyric S. victrix Nouriya (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). Nouriya produced G2 Duke of Cambride S. victrix Aljazzi (GB) (Shamardal), herself the dam of Listed John Musker S. winner Majestic Noor (GB) (Galileo {Ire}). Majestic Glory's third dam Shy Danceuse (Groom Dancer), a half-sister to G2 Diadem S. victor Diffident (Fr) (Nureyev), is the dam of Listed Prix Occitanie winner Sweet Story (Ire) (Green Tune) and Listed Oppenheim-Rennen victrix Shy Lady (Fr) (Kaldoun {Fr}). Shy Lady, in turn, threw four black-type winners headed by G1 St. James's Palace S. hero and G1 2000 Guineas runner-up Zafeen (Fr) (Zafonic). Bella Nouf has a yearling filly by Roaring Lion and a weanling colt by Zoustar (Aus) to come.

Breeders’ Cup Winner Public Sector Finds Rail Spot To Prevail In Grade 2 Hall Of Fame Stakes

Public Sector (GB) emerged victorious from a relaxed rail trip in the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga on Friday, Aug. 6. Jockey Flavien Prat got the Chad Brown favorite away from the gate well and seemed pointed for an early lead, but settled in along the rail and let Next and Wolfie's Dynaghost dictate the early pace for much of the one-mile contest on the inner turf. As the field began bunching up around the final turn, Public Sector seemed initially boxed in but found a gap along the rail and burst through, holding off a late challenge from Annex.

There was a stewards' inquiry into the stretch run, where Annex crossed over from the outside of rival Original under right handed urging from jockey Junior Alvarado. Original subsequently took a serious bobble and seemed to trip as though he caught the heels of Annex, and jockey Luis Saez pulled Original up before the finish line. Original was unsaddled and walked off the track alongside his groom, under his own power. There was no change to the order of finish as the result of the inquiry.

Annex was left up as second, with In Effect third and Next fourth. The final time for the mile was 1:35.03, with fractional times of 1:11.37, :47.56, and :23.91.

As the 4-5 favorite, Public Sector paid $3.80, $2.50, and $2.10.

Public Sector came to the race off a second-place finish in the Manila Stakes at Belmont (where he was second behind Original), and was last year's G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner. Klaravich Stables owns the 3-year-old son of Kingman (GB) and Montjeu (IRE) mare Parle Moi (IRE). Public Sector was bred in Great Britain by The Kathryn Stud. The colt was a $217,822 purchase by Klaravich from the Tattersalls October Sale, where he was consigned by Clearwater Stud.

Chad Brown, winning trainer of Public Sector (No. 2, $3.80*): “Our plan was to leave out of there with intention. It looked like there was a lot of speed on paper but make them go, get our spot and if they're going to go, go. If not, we'll be there. As it turned out, they actually weren't going. The 47 and 3 [half-mile] is solid but it's been dry here and in a graded race at Saratoga, that's not that fast for these horses. Flavien [Prat] does many things wonderfully and that was one of them. He gives you a chance to win by adapting to the pace right away. If you give him the right horse, he's going to deliver for you.”

On winning for Seth Klarman's Klaravich Stables: “We've become very close friends and he's such a loyal supporter of our stable and he provides us with these wonderful horses like you saw today with Public Sector. He's a real sportsman and always does the right thing by the horse and he gets rewarded because of that.”

Flavien Prat, winning jockey aboard Public Sector (No. 2): “The first time I rode him, I was really close to the pace and he won a nice race [on June 4 at Belmont Park]. Last time, I think it was just a slow pace. I got stuck behind horses. He couldn't really bring me anywhere around the turn and I had to make up a lot of ground on the slow pace [second in the Manilla on July 4 at Belmont]. Today, we had a good draw and he broke well and put me in the race. The pace was a bit stronger and it worked out well.

“I thought I was going to be able to go around the leader, but then I saw the leader came out and I dropped in and had room.

“We were pretty much making the move together but when I really asked him to make the move, he responded well.”

Junior Alvarado, jockey aboard runner-up Annex (No. 1): “I was moving with Luis Saez [aboard No. 6, Original] and we both made the run. At the time, I was moving more forward than him and I felt him bump me on my rear end. I knew I was still straight in my path. After that, when he was out of there, I started coming again. My horse put in a good run today and I was happy with him.

“It may have cost me a few lengths but I didn't have much room on the inside. The winner had the trip and I really didn't have another way to go but just move outside.”

Luis Saez, rider aboard Original (No. 6) who did not finish the race: “The horse was OK. He just clipped heels.”

Tattersalls August Sale Catalog Now Online

The catalog for the two-day Tattersalls August Sale, which takes place Tuesday, Aug. 31 – Wednesday Sept. 1, is now online and can be viewed at www.tattersalls.com.

Numbering 458 lots, the Tattersalls August Sale comprises 308 colts and geldings in/out of training and 138 fillies in/out of training, as well as 12 broodmares.

This year's edition of the Tattersalls August Sale has again attracted consignments from many of the world's foremost owner/breeders including Ballydoyle Stables, Godolphin, Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell Estate Company, as well as drafts from many of the UK and Ireland's leading trainers.

High-class French form is a feature amongst the leading lots cataloged in the August Sale. Agent Jamie Railton will offer Pascal Bary's Group 3 winner Pretrville, runner-up in the Group 2 Prix du Muguet in May, alongside a pair of Listed-placed two-year-olds colts in Bunglejungleparty and Papa Don't Preach.

Well-bred colts with high-class form are a customary feature of drafts from Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle Stables and the Group 3 placed duo Arturo Toscanini and Lough Derg and the Listed placed Horoscope look certain to attract plenty of interest.

Several promising lightly-raced 3-year-olds look certain to pique the interest of buyers including the Paddy Twomey trained Beamish, the Teofilo half-brother to dual Group 3 winner Bourree who was an impressive three-length winner of his only start at Leopardstown. The winning Territories gelding London Royal has earned an official rating of 94 following only three starts for trainer Ted Walsh, and Roger Varian's 90-rated Dinoo broke his maiden by four lengths on his most recent start at Haydock. William Haggas will offer the progressive Sea the Stars gelding Chalk Stream, rated 86 following a win on his most recent start at York.

Consignments from Juddmonte Farms are always amongst the highlights of horses-in-training sales at Tattersalls and their select August Sale draft is no exception featuring the smart three-year-old colt Fabilis, a 96-rated full brother to Group 3 winner Monarchs Glen. The ever-popular Godolphin draft includes a customary offering of smartly-bred fillies led by Bright Spirit, a daughter of Dubawi out of the three-time Group 3 winner Local Time.

Buyers looking for well-related fillies will have plenty more to consider including the Baroda Stud-consigned Golden Hind, a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Amazing Maria, and Burning Sea, a full-sister to Group 3 winner Blue de Vega and to the dam of Group 2 winner Angel Power who will be offered by the Castlebridge Consignment.

The largest consignment comes from Shadwell Estate Company who have a draft of 44 lots catalogued featuring unexposed winning 3-year-olds Afkaar, Maraakiz, Mothill, and Taskheer and several highly-rated older horses including the 94-rated Taqareer. Amongst the 27 lots offered by the Castlebridge Consignment are two promising 3-year-olds trained by John and Thady Gosden in Rifleman and Zagato. The 95-rated Rifleman has shown smart form in his three starts this year whilst the regally-bred Zagato, a son of Frankel out of the dual Group 1 winner Izzi Top, earned an official rating of 86 following an easy 3 1/4-length win at Thirsk on his most recent start.

With the Tattersalls July Sale being held in more normal circumstances this year, it was natural that the catalogue size for the second edition of the August Sale would reduce but we are still delighted to catalogue 458 lots over two days that will appeal to a wide cross section of buyers, both domestic and further afield. We are also pleased that buyers from the key Middle Eastern markets will find it much easier to travel to the UK for the sale with the recent easing of restrictions for fully vaccinated travelers.”

The Tattersalls August Sale will take place from Tuesday, Aug. 31 to Wednesday, Sept. 1, and buyers unable to attend the sale in person will be able to bid via the Tattersalls Live Internet Bidding platform or telephone bidding through members of the Tattersalls team. Tattersalls Releases August Catalogue

Tattersalls has released the catalogue for its two-day August Sale on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 comprising 458 lots that are a mixture of colts, geldings and fillies in and out of training and a small selection of broodmares.

In addition to key support from leading owner/breeders like Ballydoyle, Godolphin, Juddmonte Farms, Shadwell Estate Company and many of the UK and Ireland's leading trainers, a trend among the leading lights in this year's catalogue is high-class French form. Gerard Augustin-Normand's Pretreville (Fr) (Acclamation {GB}) was a Group 3-winning miler last year and was second in the G2 Prix du Muguet, and the 6-year-old entire is offered as lot 366. Listed-placed 2-year-old colts Bunglejungleparty (Ire) (Bungle Inthejungle {GB}) (lot 169) and Papa Don't Preach (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) (lot 188) are also on offer.

Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle Stables sends 18 through the ring, including the Group 3-placed 3-year-olds Arturo Toscanini (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (lot 397) and Lough Derg (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (lot 395).

Lightly raced 3-year-olds on offer include Beamish (Fr) (Teofilo {Ire}) (lot 378), a debut winner going a mile and a half who is a half-brother to multiple Group 3 winner Bourree (Ger) (Siyouni {Fr}), and London Royal (Ire) (Territories {Ire}) (lot 165), who is rated 94 after three wins.

Well-bred fillies catalogued include Golden Hind (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}) (lot 121), a winning 4-year-old half-sister to the dual Group 1-winning Amazing Maria (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}); and Burning Sea (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) (lot 422), an unraced 3-year-old full-sister to G3 Killavullan S. scorer Blue De Vega (Ger) and the listed-placed Bionic Woman (Ire), as well as the dam of multiple group winner Angel Power (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}).
