Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale Relocated to Newmarket

The Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale has been moved once again to the Tattersalls headquarters at Park Paddocks in Newmarket, Tattersalls Ireland announced on Monday. Ongoing COVID-19 related travel restrictions in Ireland prompted the location switch and 2021 marks the second year the sale will be held in Newmarket. The practice breeze session and breeze session proper at Newmarket Racecourse will be held on June 1 and 2, respectively, with the sale scheduled for June 3, as the racecourse is also operating as a COVID-19 vaccination centre. Originally, Goresbridge was set for May 20 (breezes) and 21 (sale) in Ireland.

In 2020, the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale saw a 9% increase in average and a 22% increase in median. The sale also sported a 85% clearance rate. Haqeeqy (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}), a 2020 graduate, took the Lincoln at Doncaster for John and Thady Gosden and Her Highness Sheikha Hissa Hamdan Al Maktoum earlier this spring.

“The decision to relocate the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale reflects our commitment to providing the most vibrant marketplace possible for our breeze-up vendors and we believe that this option delivers the best chance of achieving that goal,” said Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins. “We are extremely fortunate to have the option to relocate to Europe's premier bloodstock sales venue in Tattersalls and we are very grateful to the teams at both Tattersalls and Newmarket Racecourse for again accommodating the sale.”

Tatts Ireland Cancels February NH Sale

Tattersalls Ireland announced the cancellation of the February NH Sale, which had been scheduled for Apr. 7. Despite exploring all possible options to hold the sale safely, Tattersalls Ireland was informed by the Department of Agriculture that staging a bloodstock sale in Ireland while facing the continuing effects of the pandemic would not be permitted.

Lots catalogued for the February NH Sale will now be offered in conjunction with the yearling section of the November NH Sale.

“We explored every avenue to hold the sale and to offer vendors the chance to sell their stock but unfortunately, it is not possible to hold a physical sale while the country remains in Level 5 lockdown,” explained Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins. “We have received positive feedback from vendors who understand why we needed to make this decision and we would like to thank our clients for working with us and remaining incredibly patient through these turbulent times.”

Tattersalls Ireland's flagship Derby Sale is scheduled for June 23 and 24.

Tattersalls Ireland Reschedules May Store Sale

The Tattersalls Ireland May Store Sale has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 14. Tattersalls Ireland has taken this step due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and prevailing travel restrictions. The Tattersalls Ireland Select July Store Sale is slated for Thursday, July 15, and the remaining stores will be put under the hammer at the Tattersalls Ireland August NH Sale on Aug. 10-11. At this time, inspections for the various store sales are almost complete, and the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale remains as scheduled on June 23-24.

“Naturally our first preference would have been to hold what is normally the first store sale of the year in May but, we do not feel it is prudent to hold a select store sale in May or early June due to ongoing uncertainty and current travel restrictions,” said Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins. “Given that point-to-points are yet to resume, we feel that it is imperative that we allow time for the market to recover and ensure we provide a vibrant marketplace following the Derby Sale.

“We have received positive feedback from a number of vendors on this decision, who have echoed our concerns for the marketplace in May and early June and have welcomed the clarity at this early stage. We have liaised with Goffs on this decision to ensure that any changes to our sales dates are in harmony with their plans.”
