Tattersalls Ireland July Store Sale Concludes With Part 2

The Tattersalls Ireland July Store Sale ended with 163 horses sold of 250 horses offered (65.2%) during the Part II session on Thursday. The gross came in at €1,074,300, with an average of €6,591 and a median of €5,000.

Topping Thursday's proceedings was lot 506, a dark bay gelding by Stormy River (Fr) named Karisto (Fr) at €30,000. James Doyle of Baltimore Stables signed for him under the D/J Bloodstock banner from the draft of Mocklershill Stables.

A gelding by Affinisea (Ire) (lot 534) was next at €25,000 from the Moyfinn Stud draft. Steven Crawford raised his hand for the relative of the stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Morley Street (Ire) (Deep Run {GB}).

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said, “What a summer of store sales… it's been spectacular. Finally after two years our sales returned to where they belong on the sales calendar and each one of them told their own hugely successful story. This week's July Store Sale firmly cemented its position in purchasers' diaries and the significant increase witnessed in turnover, average and median justifies the move from an August date.

“All these stats and achievements couldn't be reached if it wasn't for our vendors who supply the goods. It has been simply incredible what we have witnessed at Tattersalls Ireland this summer and it is a true reflection of the superb quality of National Hunt horses being produced by Irish and UK breeders and consignors. We are extremely grateful to our vendors who have entrusted us with their top-class stock and our returns this year only proves that we deliver.

“Likewise, our thanks must also go out to each purchaser who flocked to Fairyhouse and dug deep to fill their stables. There was an extensive range of buyers involved across each sale and at every level. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the team for their hard work and Charles O'Neill and the ITM team for all their support.”

Strong Trade For Stores At Tattersalls Ireland

The second edition of the Tattersalls Ireland July Store Sale built upon last year's inaugural sale with increases across the board. Featuring an expanded catalogue, 190 lots sold from 270 offered (70%), up two ticks from 2021. The gross grew by 90% to €2,841,100, with additional increases in both average (€14,953, +43%) and median (€11,750, +47%).

Two lots shared topper honours, with Rathbarry Stud's lot 1A, the second lot through the ring, bringing €65,000 on the bid of Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls. A gelded son of Blue Bresil (Fr) and Grade 2 hurdle winner Jessber's Dream (Ire) (Milan {GB}) who also placed second at the Grade 1 level, the March-foaled 3-year-old is his dam's first foal.

Just a handful of lots from the final store, lot 293 equaled that amount on the bid of Nicky Richards. Consigned by Liss House, the son of Buck's Boum (Fr) and the Early March (GB) mare Implora (Fr) is a half-sister to the Grade 3-placed Desinvolte (Fr) (Early March {GB}).

Third on the buyers' sheets was lot 269. Knocked down to Hugo Merienne for €60,000, the son of Network (Ger) was part of the Wood Hall Stables draft. The dark bay is from the same family as G3 Prix Hypothese Hurdle scorer Dos Santos (Fr) (Smadoun {Fr}).

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said, “It is fantastic to host the July Store Sale on it's intended date for the first time. The sale has recorded significant gains on last year, sale turnover almost double of 2021's inaugural sale as well as huge rises in average and median. The results fully vindicate the decision to stage this sale in July and the phenomenal footfall seen at Tattersalls Ireland today demonstrates that both Irish and UK purchasers fully support the sale.

“We must thank our vendors for getting behind the idea of a mid-summer sale and allowing us to introduce it to the sales calendar in such a vibrant manner. They have supported the sale with some quality stock and their confidence in the sale and the venue has been rewarded.”

Part II of the July Store Sale commences tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

Saxon Warrior Filly Sets Record at Goresbridge Sale

A filly from the first crop of dual Group 1 winner Saxon Warrior (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) out of Causeway Queen (Ire) (Giant's Causeway) was hammered down to Stephen Hillen and Kevin Ryan for €520,000 to shoot to the head of the class at Thursday's Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale.

The final price set a new record for the Goresbridge Sale, easily surpassing the €410,000 set at last year's event. The March-foaled chestnut was consigned to the auction by Greenhills Farm as lot 151 and is out of an unraced daughter of G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Ask For the Moon (Fr) (Dr Fong), whose produce include G3 Dee S. winner and G1 Investec Derby third Astrology (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and the listed-winning Sandro Botticelli (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

“It is fantastic, she is a gorgeous filly, cracking filly with a lovely pedigree and she just filled the eye for everyone,” said a delighted Katie Walsh, who previously topped the Goresbridge Sale in 2018 with the Frankel filly East, also bought by Hillen.

“I knew coming here that she was going to clock well, I had a fair idea that she is a tasty filly–all she had done is please me since I have had her. She has always been a straightforward filly with a great galloping stride and a great attitude.”

The cross of Saxon Warrior's legendary late sire over Giant's Causeway dams has resulted in the likes of Beauty Parlour, Barocci and Deep Jewelry.
