The catalogue for the 2023 Tattersalls December Yearling Sale, set to be held Monday, Nov. 27, is out and can be viewed online. A total of 188 lots are set to sell over the one-day sale that immediately precedes the December Foal Sale, which will take place from Tuesday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 2.

Last year's sale produced a number of standouts, including dual Group 1 winning 2-year-old Vandeek (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) and G1 Pretty Polly S. winner Via Sistina (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Ire}), purchased for 42,000gns and 5,000gns, respectively.

Overall this year there are own or half-brothers and sisters to 41 Group and Listed winners catalogued and 27 yearlings out of Group and Listed-winning dams, including five Classic/Group 1 winners and the last yearling by the late Galileo (Ire) (lot 171) to sell at public auction.

Also among the offerings this year are 11 yearlings eligible for the £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus Scheme, which will increase from £20,000 to £25,000 in 2024, and 18 yearlings eligible for the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction S., as well as four yearlings eligible for the €250,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction S. The catalogue also features 26 fillies already entered for the Great British Bonus and one lot qualified for French Owners' Premiums.

Also part of The Castlebridge consignment is Rhythm N Hooves (GB) (Pearl Secret {GB}) (lot 188), the winner of the Palace of Holyroodhouse S. at Royal Ascot; and French Claim (Fr) (French Fifteen {Fr}) (lot 195), the third-place finisher in last year's Irish Derby and most recently runner-up in the Listed Vintage Crop S. at Navan.

Some notable 2-year-olds slated to sell include recent Bellewstown maiden winner G'Day Mate (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) (lot 253), Listed Premio Criterium Varesino S. winner Man With The Plan (Ire) (James Garfield {Ire}) (lot 254) and G2 Richmond S. runner-up Hala Emaraaty (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) (lot 153).

Tattersalls To Cease Operations At Ascot Racecourse

Tattersalls will no longer hold sales at Ascot Racecourse beginning immediately, the company announced on Wednesday. The final sale at the venue under the Tattersalls banner was the Ascot June Sale, which took place on Tuesday, June 6.

Both the Tattersalls Ascot July Sale on July 18 and the Tattersalls Ascot November Sale on Nov. 9 will be moved to Park Paddocks in Newmarket and retain their dates on the calendar. Entries are now being taken for the Tattersalls Ascot July Sale, which has been renamed the Tattersalls Summer Sale. The relocated sales will be conducted in guineas, with a vendor commission of 5%, in line with all Tattersalls sales held at the Park Paddocks complex.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “We have enjoyed our seven-year association with Ascot Sales and would like to thank all the loyal vendors and purchasers who have contributed to some memorable moments in that time, as well as the support team at Ascot Racecourse. We will continue to serve this sector of the market with mixed sales at our Park Paddocks base in Newmarket in addition to the market leading mixed and online sales which we already stage throughout the year.

“Just as with the Tattersalls sales at Ascot, the relocated sales will continue to cater for all categories, both Flat and National Hunt, with the added advantage that we can also accept mares in foal and foals, which was not an option at Ascot. Vendors and purchasers will also benefit from the outstanding facilities at Park Paddocks and the lowest commission rate in Europe.”

The £250,000 Tattersalls Craven Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus for owners of 2-year-olds purchased at the 2023 Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, has been renewed by the sales company.

This scheme runs in addition to the £15,000 Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Bonus scheme, which has already paid out £555,000 in bonuses. The £250,000 Tattersalls Craven Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus will offer a £125,000 bonus for the first Craven Breeze-Up winner of any of the six 2-year-old races at this year's Royal Meeting, with £100,000 being paid to the owner and £25,000 to the vendor of the horse. An additional £125,000 bonus, with the same £100,000/£25,000 split, will also be paid to the first Craven Breeze-Up winner of any of the 15 European Group 1 races open to 2-year-olds, including the all-age G1 Nunthorpe S. at York and the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp.

The 2023 edition of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale will be held from Apr. 17-19. Breezes will take place over the Rowley Mile at Newmarket on Apr. 17, with the sale held at Park Paddocks the following two days.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “The £250,000 Tattersalls Craven Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus reinforces our commitment to rewarding owners with multiple bonuses. The introduction of the bonus in 2021 immediately captured the imagination of owners and trainers and we were delighted that European Champion 2-Year-Old Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) was able to collect the £125,000 Tattersalls Craven Group 1 Bonus for Godolphin before going on to win the G1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas last year.

“The bonuses further enhance the appeal of a sale which produces a consistent flow of top-class 2-year-olds, with last year's sale producing twice as many group/listed performers as any other 2022 European breeze up sale as well as two Classic winners in Native Trail and G1 1000 Guineas winner Cachet (Ire) (Aclaim {Ire}).

“Running alongside the ever-popular £15,000 Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Bonus, the multiple bonuses reward numerous owners and as Native Trail demonstrated, the prospect of an owner winning multiple Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Bonuses is very real.”
