Non-Jackpot Pick 6 Carryover Headlines Thursday’s Card At The Big M

For the next two weeks, they'll be an extra night of racing at The Meadowlands for fans to enjoy, and as an added bonus, when live action takes place Thursday (Dec. 2) evening, they'll be a pot of gold waiting for players.

The 20-cent Pick-6 pool will be overflowing since the bet failed to yield a winning ticket last weekend (Nov. 26-27), so there is a carryover of $20,096 heading into Thursday's card. The Pick-6 will span races four through nine. Free past performances are always available for all Meadowlands programs by going to playmeadowlands.com.

Some simple mathematics tell us why carryovers like these present a remarkable opportunity for bettors. To begin with, the carryover is not subject to the takeout. If the wager takes in $30,000 of “new money”, $4,500 would be removed for the “rake”, which would leave $45,500 in the total pool, a return to the player of 151 per cent instead of the normal 85.

“This is a traditional, non-jackpot Pick-6,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “So that just sweetens the pot for the educated horseplayers. The wager is priced with a low 15 per cent takeout and has a low base bet of 20 cents. Players will also love that there will be a negative takeout if the final Pick-6 pool is under $150,000. From a wagering standpoint, it just doesn't get any better than this.”

Best Of Ohio Pick 5 Highlights Saturday’s Card At Mahoning Valley

The Best of Ohio stake series returns to Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course this Saturday, Oct. 30, consisting of five Ohio-bred stakes with purses totaling half a million dollars. While the ten race card kicks off with a first race post time of 12:15pm, the first of the Best of Ohio stakes will begin in race six.

As a specialty offering on the card, Mahoning Valley will include a Best of Ohio all stake Pick 5 covering races six through ten with the standard 15 percent takeout. Field size after early scratches averages ten betting interests per race. Sixth race post time is 2:35pm. Should there be a carryover in the early Pick 5 covering races one through five, it will carryover and be immediately available in the Best of Ohio Pick 5.

Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course races Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with a first race post time of 12:45pm and Saturday with a first race post time of 12:15pm. The fall race meet runs October 22 – December 30, 2021 with three unique cards on Friday, October 22, Friday, November 26, and Thursday, December 30 all with a first race post time of 12:45pm. The 2022 Winter/Spring race meet dates are anticipated to be January 1, 2022 – April 16, 2022 following the same Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday format. These dates are currently pending approval by the Ohio State Racing Commission.

Keeneland Debuts New Turf Pick 3 For Fall Meet

Keeneland has announced a number of wagering opportunities, including the new Keeneland Turf Pick 3, for handicappers of all levels during the Fall Meet from Oct. 8-30.

The Keeneland Turf Pick 3 wager will be offered on the final three turf races each race day. The minimum wager is $3 and will follow the same rules as the traditional Pick 3. (The Keeneland Turf Pick 3 will be available only as a separate event on wagering terminals or on ADWs due to the unique $3 minimum and the fact that Keeneland has rolling Pick 3s on each race.)

The new wager has a 15 percent takeout, the same low takeout as Keeneland's popular Pick 5 wager.

“We believe the Keeneland Turf Pick 3 to be the first wager of its kind to be offered to horseplayers,” Keeneland Vice President of Racing Gatewood Bell said. “With Keeneland's deep turf schedule and the caliber of racing we expect to see during the Fall Meet – combined with a $3 minimum bet amount and lower takeout of the Keeneland Turf Pick 3 – this innovative wager should be appealing to handicappers.”

Post time for the first race during the Fall Meet, which marks Keeneland's 85th anniversary, is 1 p.m. ET.

As an added promotion this October, new Keeneland Select accounts will receive a special $100 rebate after a user wagers $200 on Keeneland racing during the Fall Meet with the promo code FALL2021. This is in addition to the standard sign-up bonus that will reward new users with $100 after wagering $300 in their first 30 days.

Keeneland Select Handicapping Challenge, Super High 5 every race day

Every race day: Sport of Kings, the free horse racing contest website, has a new free online handicapping contest, the Keeneland Select Fall Handicapping Challenge, which will appeal to casual fans and serious horseplayers alike. The contest requires participants to make mythical selections on two Keeneland races for each day of the meet. Two seats to the 2022 NTRA National Horseplayers Championship will be awarded. Also, the Super High 5 wager will be offered on the final race of the day and no longer be available as a jackpot wager. Therefore, it will return to traditional Super High 5 rules.

Stronach 5 Returns Friday With Four Turf Races From Gulfstream, Laurel

The Stronach 5, offering a low 12-percent takeout, returns Friday with the first four races in the sequence on the turf from Gulfstream Park and Laurel Park.

The Stronach 5 kicks off at 4:12 ET with Gulfstream's fifth races and concludes at approximately 5:45 with the third race at Golden Gate Fields.

The first leg of the Stronach 5 is a maiden special weight event at 7 ½ furlongs on Gulfstream's turf for 2-year-old fillies. Ocean Safari, a daughter of Temple City, will break from the rail. The filly makes her second start for trainer Gilberto Zerpa after finishing third by a neck in her debut July 31. Palmach, a daughter of Violence, makes her debut for trainer Mark Casse and jockey Edwin Gonzalez. Casse will also send out Keen Contender, third in her debut Aug. 6.

The Stronach 5 heads to Laurel for the second and third legs. Laurel's eighth race, a $48,000 allowance event at 5 ½ furlongs for 3-year-olds and up, drew a dozen including Town of Gold, who has placed first, second or third in five of six starts on the turf. Trained by Jorge Duarte Jr., Town of Gold, a son of Speightstown, was seventh at Monmouth under similar conditions last out after a six-month layoff. Prince Pere, who has placed first, second or third in four of five turf starts, goes out for Michael Merryman and jockey Sheldon Russell. Hard to Be Humble goes out first off the claim for Hugh McMahon.

Laurel's ninth race, the third leg of the sequence, is a claiming event at 5 ½ furlongs for 3, 4, and 5-year-old maidens. Fake I D drops a bit in class for Sarah Nagle while making his fourth start. Gambling Man, a 3-year-old son of Seville, makes his debut for Aimee Hall.

Gulfstream's seventh race, a mile turf event for 3-year-olds and up, is a competitive 10-horse field. Rocket Joe Copper, a five-time winner on the turf for Kathleen O'Connell, comes into the race off a 7-length victory over a sloppy main track. Sharm El Sheikh comes into the race off a victory over the turf for trainer Murat Sancal. Positive Phil won two consecutive races in May and June before finishing ninth in his last and being claimed by Alfredo Cazares.

The Stronach 5 concludes at Golden Gate Fields with the third race, a one-mile event for claimers 3 and up. Jonathan Wong sends out Drasario. The 4-year-old gelded son of Dragon Pulse hopes to break his maiden in his 15th start while drawing the rail.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.
