Sunday’s Racing Insights: Pricey Munnings Filly Spa Debut

MUNNY ROCKETTE (Munnings) sold to Champion Equine for $450,000 as a yearling at last year's Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga Select Yearling Sale and went for $1-million when Donato Lanni signed the ticket for Frank Fletcher Racing Operations on the final day of this year's OBS March Sale. Trained by Bill Mott and with Junior Alvarado in the irons, the bay filly's second dam is a half sister to GI Test S. and GI Ballerina H. winner Chaposa Springs (Baldski) and GI Met Mile champ You and I (Kris S.)

Also looking to make her mark first time out, Catherine Wheel (Into Mischief) is an OBS April alum who fetched $725,000. She hails from an extended female family which includes GI Belmont S. winners Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy) and Arcangelo (Arrogate). Joining this pair is Ella Elizabeth (Take Charge Indy), who sold to Gus King for $510,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Old Sale. A full sister to GSW and MGSP Take Charge Paula, the Chad Brown trainee gets the services of Joel Rosario. TJCIS PPS

Heading to the Pea Patch, $675,000 OBS April grad Blitz (Uncle Mo) debuts for Gary Barber and DJ Stable. The dark bay filly, out of GSW Customer Base (Lemon Drop Kid), is trained by Mark Casse and will be ridden by Cristian Torres. She drilled :48.00 Aug. 5 at Ellis (4f, 7/49) in preparation for this start.

Also entered is Movin' On Up (Accelerate), who is a well-connected Harvey Clarke Racing Stables homebred. Trained by Brendan Walsh and ridden by Martin Garcia, the gray filly is the first offspring out of Stifle Yourself (Cairo Prince). Second dam Gloria S. (Tapit) produced GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup winner Harvey's Lil Goil (American Pharoah) and she counts GI Kentucky Derby victor I'll Have Another (Flower Alley) and MGSW Golden Award (Medaglia d'Oro) as half siblings. Sunday Insights: $1.2-Million Into Mischief Filly Makes The Saratoga Races

Sunday's racing slate features a daughter of Into Mischief who fetched $1.2-million at FTSAUG sale when she was purchased by Koji Maeda. MUGEN, trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Joel Rosario, is out of GI Test S. heroine Paola Queen (Flatter). TJCIS PPs

Heading to Saratoga's turf, there are number of first timers here worth mentioning. Sands of War (War Front) brought $550,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling sale and the Cherie DeVaux trainee's dam Egyptian Storm (Pioneerof the Nile)–a $750,000 purchase at FTKNOV in 2019–is a half-sister to Triple Crown champ Justify (Scat Daddy). Speaking of that Horse of the Year, he is the sire of Justdeny, who was a $175,000 KEEJAN and $460,000 KEESEP buy and whose second dam Nell Gwyn (Ire) (Danehill) counts European Horse of the Year Rock of Gibraltar (Ire) as a full-brother.

Ozara (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) from Christophe Clement's stable was a TATTOCT Ylg graduate who was purchased by Mike Ryan for $416,346 and her dam Cercle d'Or (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) is a half to G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}). Another Chad Brown trainee will seek to break her maiden in $240,000 KEENOV weanling turned $650,000 KEESEP yearling Spendalot (More Than Ready). The gray filly is a full-sister to stablemate and MGSW Consumer Spending.

Lastly, Causeway's Jewel (More Than Ready) is a full-brother to MGSW and GISP 'TDN Rising Star' Emmanuel. Her dam is a half to both MG1SW Hawkbill (Kitten's Joy), plus GISW and GISP Free Drop Billy (Union Rags). Also, $500,000 KEESEP buy Miz Sense (Street Sense)'s dam produced GSW Canoodling (Pioneerof the Nile) and she is a half-sister to champion 2-year-old colt Shanghai Bobby (Harlan's Holiday). Pumpkin Scone hails from a female family which includes GI Travers S. hero Afleet Express (Afleet Alex) and MGISP My Miss Sophia (Unbridled's Song), the dam of GISW Annapolis (War Front).
