Four turf races, average fields of 11.2, and a $100,000 guaranteed pool make up Friday's competitive and exciting Stronach 5

The Stronach 5, featuring races from Laurel Park and Gulfstream Park Friday, continues to offer a strong return on investment. Consider last week when the Stronach 5 returned $12,804 with the highest-price winner being $12.20.

The action kicks off at 3:19 p.m. and Laurel's sixth race with a dozen maiden claimers going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Dahlia Turf Course. The only race scheduled on the main track is Laurel's seventh, a 6 ½ furlong for 3-year-olds and up. Laurel's eighth race, which concludes the Stronach 5 sequence, is an allowance event over a 5 ½ furlong course.

Both of Gulfstream's races – the eighth and ninth – and five furlong turf events for claimers 3 and up.

$12.20 Winner Highest Price In $12,804 Stronach 5 Payout

The Stronach 5 continued rewarding bettors with a strong return in investment when Friday's multi-race, multi-track wager returned $12,804.50.

Friday's Stronach 5 featured three races from Laurel Park, two from Gulfstream Park, a $100,000 guaranteed pool and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

The Stronach 5 began with Laurel's seventh race and 12 fillies and mares going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The winner was John Gardiner's and Kingdom Bloodstock Inc.'s More or Less, who returned $10.40.

Laurel's eighth race, a $55,000 allowance event at a mile featuring stakes winners Alwaysmining and Cordmaker, was won by Harper's First Ride ($7). The winner and second-place finisher Tybalt are both trained by Claudio Gonzalez.

Gulfsream's 10th race, a maiden special weight event for 3-year-olds and up at a mile on the turf, served as the fourth leg of the Stronach 5 and it was won by Zayat Stables LLC's Salow ($12), a son of Distorted Humor making his debut for trainer Wesley Ward and jockey Eduardo Nunez. The sequence ended with Cannon's Roar ($12.20) winning Laurel's ninth race.

A $55,000 allowance event at Laurel Park featuring six stakes winners, including two graded-stakes winners, highlight a competitive Stronach 5 Friday with a $100,000 guaranteed pool and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

The third leg of the sequence, Laurel's eighth race for 3-year-olds and up going a mile, could well be a stakes race. Stronach 5 Pays $4,165.20 Despite Wins By Two Heavy Favorites

Despite victories by two heavy favorites in Liza Star and Plot the Dots, Friday's Stronach 5 still rewarded bettors with winning tickets with a $4,165.20 payoff.

The national wager, with races from Laurel Park and Gulfstream Park, had a guaranteed pool of $100,000.

Friday's Stronach 5 began with Laurel Park's sixth race and an impressive victory by the 10-1 maiden Fiya, owned by The Orebanks, trained by Michael Merryman, and ridden by Feargal Lynch. The second leg of the sequence, run as Gulfstream's eighth race, was won by favored Liza Star while the third leg, run as Laurel's seventh race, was also won by the favorite, 4-5 shot Plot the Dots.

The 6-1 shot Rags for Britches won Gulfstream's ninth race, the fourth leg of Stronach 5, while the sequence wrapped up with the 7-1 shot Princess Killmain winning Laurel's eighth race.
