Stronach 5 Pays $2,752 To 42 Winning Tickets

There were 42 winning tickets in Friday's Stronach 5 with each returning $2,752.40.

The Stronach 5 featured races from Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields, three turf races, and an industry-low 12-percent takeout. There was $130,129 wagered into the Stronach 5.

The Stronach 5 began with One Fast ($7) winning the eighth race at Gulfstream, going six furlongs in 1:11.07. Santa Anita's third race served as the second leg of the Stronach 5 and Reedley ($21.60), a 5-year-old ridden by Edwin Maldonado, was the upset winner.

Gulfstream's ninth and final race, the third leg of the sequence, went to a game 7-5 favorite in Blue Lou Boyle ($4.80) with Miguel Vasquez in the saddle for trainer Mark Casse. Santa Anita's fourth race, also the fourth leg in the sequence, was won by Ian Glass ($10), a 5-year-old son of Hard Spun winning his fifth career start.

The Stronach 5 concluded with Golden Gate's fourth race and the 6-5 favorite Stormin Galileo ($4.60) winning at a mile on the turf in 1:39.54.

Trio Of Turf Races Feature In Friday’s Stronach 5

The Stronach 5 returns Friday with races from Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields along with an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

Friday's sequence includes three turf races – two maiden turf races from Gulfstream and Golden Gate and a competitive 10-horse $32,000 claiming event from Santa Anita.

The Stronach 5 begins at 4:50 p.m. with Gulfstream's eighth race, a claiming event for 3-year-olds and up going six furlongs. Five of Hearts breaks from the rail as the 2-1 favorite for trainer Kathleen O'Connell and jockey Edwin Gonzalez. Victor Barboza Jr. saddles the 5-2 second choice I Kickn. The 4-year-old has two wins and four thirds from eight lifetime starts. Edgard Zayas has the mount.

Santa Anita's third race serves as the second leg of the sequence. The six-furlong claiming event for 4-year-olds and up appears to be wide-open with five of the seven starters 4-1 or less. Gulfstream's ninth race is up next. The mile turf event for $50,000 maiden claimers is another wide-open affair with a 3-1 favorite in Gary Barber's Blue Lou Boyle, coming off a second-place finish Feb. 10 for trainer Mark Casse off a 13-month layoff. Trainers Brendan Walsh and Barclay Tagg send out first-time starters while trainer Eoin Harty ships Astroturf in from Tampa off a third-place finish March 14.

A return to Santa Anita for its fourth race and the fourth leg of Friday's sequence. A claiming event for 4-year-olds and up at six furlongs on the turf has a 5-2 favorite in Where We At's Castle, who enters off a second-place finish Feb. 21 off a near year layoff. The 2019 winner of California Flag Handicap has Abel Cedillo named to ride. Psycho Dar (4-1) goes out for the Kristin Mulhall barn, which clicks at 25-percent in turf sprints. Gary Barber's Blackout (4-1), conditioned by Peter Miller, gets blinkers on.

The Stronach 5 wraps up at Golden Gate with Race 4, a maiden $20,000 for 3-year-olds at a mile on the turf. Stormin Galileo (5-2) breaks from the rail after a fifth-place finish against state-bred maiden special weight company. Space Odessey drops from an $80,000 claiming event Feb. 27 at Santa Anita for trainer Simon Callaghan. The gelded, Maryland-bred son of Malibu Moon fetched $225,000 as a yearling at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Stronach 5 Highlighted By Turf Races From Santa Anita, Gulfstream

The Stronach 5 will feature five competitive races from four tracks along with an industry-low 12-percent takeout when it begins at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Continuing to show a strong return on investment, Laurel's eighth race begins this week's Stronach 5, a starter allowance at 1 1/16 mile with a tepid 7-2 favorite in King Mauro trained by Michael Gorham and ridden by Sheldon Russell. The gelding looks for his third consecutive victory after beating $8,000 claimers in his last by four. Trainer John Robb saddles Belfour, 3-1, making his first start since Jan. 17 Belfour owns eight victories at Laurel and Robb has saddled 15 winners at the meet.

The ninth race at Laurel serves as the second leg of the sequence. The maiden $40,000 claimer at six furlongs is a wide-open affair with Country Life Farm's Mosler's Touch entering off a second-place finish last time out against similar company. Trainer Kelly Rubley sends out Likely Choice, who caught a sloppy track last out when finishing seventh. Linda Rice ships Amendment Nineteen in from Belmont for her debut.

The Stronach 5 heads west for the third and fourth legs. Santa Anita's third race, a mile turf event for claiming fillies and mares, has a 2-1 choice in Acoustic Shadow and two horses listed at 5-2 on the morning-line in Amiko Chow and Unbreakable. Acoustic Shadow missed by a head in trying to break her maiden Jan. 15 when claimed for $45,000 by Philip D'Amato. Amiko Chow and Unbreakable finished second and third, respectively, beaten less than a length Feb. 21 against similar claiming company.

Golden Gate's third race, the fourth leg of the sequence, features 3-year-old maiden claimers going five furlongs. Evenerevenworse is the 2-1 choice coming off a second-place finish March 5 at 5 ½ furlongs. Emperor's Fisc (9-2) finished third in his second career start Feb. 13, a race in which the runner-up came back to win.

The Stronach 5 wraps up at Gulfstream with the 10th race, a $35,000 maiden claimer at 1 1/16 mile for 3-year-old fillies. Leading trainer Todd Pletcher sends out Zaffing, who drops a bit in company after finishing fourth on the turf Feb. 28. Short Circuit gets the rail after a third-place finish against similar company last time out. Family Time returns to the turf for trainer Dale Romans.

Favorites Dominate Stronach 5; 2,214 Winning Tickets Each Collect $313.30

Friday's Stronach 5, which featured a carryover of $154,931, had 2,214 winning tickets, each returning $313.30.

There was $612,155 of new money wagered Friday. The Stronach 5 featured races from Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.

Sonata Stable's Paradise Song ($6.20), trained by Mike Trombetta, kicked off the Stronach 5 by winning Laurel's eighth race. The second leg, Gulfstream's eighth race, was won by Bahamian Girl ($11.80) while the 4-5 favorite Thunderinthevalley ($3.60) won Laurel's ninth race and the third leg of the sequence.

The Stronach 5 then headed west. Santa Anita's third race, the fourth leg of the sequence, was won by Hard Metal ($5.80). The Stronach 5 concluded with Golden Gate's third leg and favored Made in Karoo ($3) winning.
