Holy Roman Emperor’s Geography Charts Passage To Winterfavoriten Triumph

Stall Hanse's Geography (Ger) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}–Guajara {Ger}, by Montjeu {Ire}) followed up a debut success at Dusseldorf in August with a fifth in Baden-Baden's G3 Zukunfts-Rennen and bounced back to claim a career high in Sunday's G3 Wettstar.de – Preis des Winterfavoriten, Germany's premier juvenile contest, at Cologne.

The 21-10 second choice was the sharpest of seven into stride and tanked along under a firm on the lead from flagfall in this first attempt at this one-mile distance. Shaken up to poach a decisive advantage with 500 metres remaining, he was beyond recall entering the final furlong and kept on strongly in the latter stages to hold the late thrust of Narrativo (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}) by a neck. The duo were four lengths clear of the remainder, headed by 2-1 favourite Inside Matters (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}).

“I didn't really want to go to the front and it wasn't the plan to do so, but we got off to a fast start and nobody wanted to take the lead,” winning rider Rene Piechulek told GaloppOnline. “He just did it all by himself. He has a lot of heart, but was unable to show his true value [in the Zukunfts-Rennen] at Baden-Baden. We still don't know what happened there.” Trainer Peter Schiergen added, “He's going on winter break now and we'll see whether or not he'll be one of the leading stayers in the future.”

Pedigree Notes
Geography, who becomes the 56th pattern-race winner for his sire, is the fourth of five foals and first black-type scorer out of Listed Premio Paolo Mezzanotte victrix Guajara (Ger) (Montjeu {Ire}). He is a half to Listed Glasgow S. runner-up Groundbreaker (Ger) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and a weanling colt by Too Darn Hot (GB). The March-foaled bay's second dam, Listed Dortmunder Stutenpreis third Global World (Ger) (Big Shuffle), has produced three stakes winners headed by G3 Frankfurter Stutenpreis victrix and multiple stakes producer Goathemala (Ger) (Black Sam Bellamy {Ire}). She is also the second dam of G3 Meld S.-winning G1 Grosser Dallmayr Preis third Patrick Sarsfield (Fr) (Australia {GB}). Global World is a full-sister to G3 Dusseldorfer Fruhjahrsmeile victor Global Thrill (GB) as well as being kin to six further stakes performers including G2 Maurice Lacroix Trophy victor Global Dream (Ger) (Seattle Dancer). Geography's fourth dam is G3 German 1000 Guineas heroine Grimpola (Ger) (Windwurf {Ger}), whose descendants feature MG1SW Irish Derby-winning sire Fame And Glory (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire) and MG1SW 1000 Guineas heroine Legatissimo (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}).

Lope De Vega’s Quantanamera Slays Winterkonigin Rivals

Jurgen Sartori's unbeaten 2-year-old filly Quantanamera (Ger) (Lope De Vega {Ire}–Quaduna {GB}, by Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}) posted an impressive three-length debut success tackling nine furlongs at Dortmund last month and blitzed those that dared once more in Sunday's G3 BBAG Preis der Winterkonigin, Germany's premium event for juvenile fillies, at Baden-Baden. The well-backed 6-4 favourite was sharply into stride from the outside stall and bowled along under a firm hold on the front end. Settling the contest in an instant when shaken up at the top of the straight, she left toiling rivals trailing in her wake from the quarter-mile marker and quickened clear in impressive fashion before gearing down inside the final furlong to easily outclass Empore (Ger) (Oasis Dream {GB}) by an untroubled 8 1/2 lengths.

“After Quantanamera had worked two weeks ago, I said to my wife that we might have a really exceptional horse in the stable,” Cologne trainer Andreas Suborics told GaloppOnline after registering a first win in the one-mile contest. “She is the best filly I've ever had in training and my pulse was racing today. It was a gala performance and she will now get entries for all the major races, including the [G1] Prix de Diane, but we will enjoy this success first.”

Quantanamera, a half-sister to Listed Prix Le Fabuleux runner-up Quello (Ire) (Soldier Hollow {GB}), becomes the 61st pattern-race winner for her sire (by Shamardal) and is the third of five foals and second scorer from as many runners out of dual G3 Premio Verziere victrix Quaduna (Ger) (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}). Quaduna is the leading performer for G2 Schwarzgold-Rennen winner Quelle Amore (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}), herself a full-sister to Listed Prix Max Sicard victor Quidamo (GB). Quelle Amore is also kin to Listed Badener Steher Cup winner Qsar (Ger) (Tiger Hill {Ire}). Quaduna, who hails from the family of dual Group 1-placed G2 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) and G2 German 1000 Guineas heroine Que Belle (Seattle Dancer), has a yearling filly by Saxon Warrior (Jpn) and a weanling filly by Too Darn Hot (GB) to come.

Riocorvo Powers To Grand Prix de Vichy Triumph

Georgiana Cabrero's 6-year-old entire Riocorvo (Ger) (Pastorius {Ger}–Rio Cobra {Ger}, by Silvano {Ger}) was the only one of six contenders found wanting for black-type when sent postward for Wednesday's G3 Grand Prix de Vichy and upcycled his resume with a decisive success and career best in the 10-furlong test. He was let go as a 63-10 chance coming back off a May 15 handicap win at ParisLongchamp and a fourth in last month's Listed Grand Prix de Compiegne, on stakes bow last time, and raced three lengths off the clear leader Diamond Vendome (Fr) (Style Vendome {Fr}) in second for the most part. Bustled along passing the quarter-mile marker, he seized control approaching the final furlong and was ridden clear in the latter stages to easily account for Godolphin's Sundoro (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) by three lengths. This term's G1 Saudi Cup winner Emblem Road (Quality Road) was unable to land a telling blow and finished a well-beaten fifth.

Riocorvo, half-brother to the hitherto unraced 2-year-old filly Sea White (Ire) (Ribchester {Ire}), is the first of five foals and one of two scorers from as many runners produced by an unraced daughter of G3 Preis der Winterkonigin victrix Royal Dubai (Ger) (Dashing Blade {GB}). Black-type descendants of Royal Dubai, herself a half-sister to GI Beverly S. S. victrix Royal Highness (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}), include G1 Prix Marcel Boussac, G1 Nassau S. and G1 Prix de l'Opera heroine Wild Illusion (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and GI Breeders' Cup Turf-winning US champion Yibir (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). The February-foaled bay hails from a family which also features G1 Dubai World Cup, G1 Juddmonte International and G1 Gran Premio di Milano-winning sire Electrocutionist (Red Ransom) and G1 Deutsches Derby hero Robertico (GB) (Robellino).

Kingman’s Habana Impresses For TDN Rising Star Tag In Germany

Led out unsold at 140,000gns when attending last year's Tattersalls October Book 1 fixture, Gestut Fahrhof's hitherto untried homebred 2-year-old filly Habana (Ger) (Kingman {GB}–Hargeisa {GSW-Ity, MGSP-Fr & GSP-Ger}, by Speightstown) instead illuminated Cologne's Weidenpescher venue with a scintillating performance over 6 1/2 furlongs in Sunday's HSBS Catering Maiden Preis. Her year-older half-brother Huancayo (Ger) (Frankel {GB}) had provided a telling clue with a three-length debut triumph at Hannover just two days before. Habana was the lone filly in a field of five and was under a firm hold behind all four rivals through the early strides before tanking forward at halfway. Powering to the fore hard on the steel with 350 metres remaining, the well-backed 13-10 favourite settled the contest in an instant when quickening clear passing the furlong marker and accelerated again before gearing down to easily outclass Muhalif (Ger) (Lawman {Fr}) by an impressive 4 3/4 lengths.

“I actually wanted to wait a bit longer before committing and, if anything, we were in front a bit too soon, but she did that very well indeed,” said winning jockey Eddy Pedroza. Habana holds an eyecatching entry in Baden-Baden's G3 Zukunftsrennen, over seven furlongs at the end of August, and connections will take time to ponder options according to Gestut Fahrhof's Simon Stokes, who added, “We already have a high opinion of her and we're now going to discuss plans on how to proceed in a considered manner.”

Habana is the second of three foals produced by G3 Premio Primi Passi victrix Hargeisa (Speightstown), herself the leading representative of Listed Omnibus S. winner Hasay (GB) (Lomitas {GB}). Hasay, in turn, is the leading performer out of Listed Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage victrix and GIII Matchmaker S. runner-up Saralea (Fr) (Sillery), herself a half-sister to the stakes-winning trio Deauville (Fr) (Groom Dancer), La Kaldoun (Fr) (Kaldoun {Fr}) and Solidoun (Fr) (Kaldoun {Fr}). Saralea is also kin to the dam of G3 Prix de la Jonchere-winning sire Kaldou Star (GB) (Kaldoun {Fr}) (Caro {Ire}). Hargeisa has a weanling filly by Pinatubo (Ire) to come.
