Sunday Insights: Brown Pair Debut With Candy Ride Connection

1st-AQU, $80K, Msw, 3yo/up, 6 1/2f, 1:20 p.m.
Trainer Chad Brown has Aqueduct's first race on closing day bookended with a pair of firsters from his shedrow in OCASEK (Candy Ride {Arg}), who draws the rail with Dylan Davis aboard and to the outside ARMY TIMES (Into Mischief) with Manny Franco in the irons. Both have a Candy Ride connection as the former, who was a $440,000 '21 FTSAUG  purchase by Spendthrift Farm, was sired by him, while the latter's dam, MGSW & MGISP Paid Up Subscriber, claims the stud as her own.

Peter Brant' Army Times was bred by Joseph Allen, who incidently co-owned his dam and was conditioned by Brown and White Birch Farm. Pointing to this spot, Brant's bay colt put forward a bullet four-furlong work Mar. 10 in :47 (1/125). Stablemate Ocasek is not without merits, as his dam Shananies Song (Eltish) has turned out a diverse group of offspring in GSP Bellamentary (Bellamy Road) and a pair full-brothers by Flatter in GSW Favorable Outcome and GSW Mouheeb. Out of Unicorn Girl, champion MGISW Jackie's Warrior (Maclean's Music) was a $95,000 Ylg KEESEP in 2019 and earned almost $3 million on the racetrack. Going for $600,000 at the Mixed KEENOV sale a year later, half-brother OCEAN CITY (American Pharoah) looks to continue that legacy in what will be his second start for Jackie's trainer Steve Asmussen at the Fair Grounds after a fourth place behind a pair of 'TDN Rising Stars' in Bishop's Bay (Uncle Mo) and First Mission (Street Sense) Feb. 18 going six panels. Switching to the grass and ridden by James Graham from the rail, the Westerberg, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael B. Tabor and Derrick Smith-owned bay colt was bred by J&J Stables and Carlo Vaccarezza. From the chute on Sunday, look for FLYLIKEABUTTERFLY (IRE) (Kingman {GB}) to debut for trainer Kent Sweezey from gate one with Angel Rodriguez aboard. She is out of a family that includes a pair of graded-stakes winners in Nayyir (GB) (Indian Ridge {Ire}) and Sky Hunter (GB) (Motivator {GB}). Drawing the eight hole with Javier Castellano in-town to ride is first timer for trainer Christophe Clement, MONEY BEETS (City of Light). She was a $575,000 '21 KEESEP buy and is out of stakes-winning mare Do the Dance (Discreet Cat), who counts Japanese MGSP Randonnee (Blame) as a half. TJCIS PPS

Saturday Insights: Flame On For Justify Colt Out Of Tiger Moth

Sponsored by Alex Nichols Agency

2nd-FG, $75K, Msw, 3yo, 6f, 1:30 p.m.
Closing weekend at the Fair Grounds includes a pair of important maiden races on Saturday, as Juddmonte homebred CASTLEWARDEN (Into Mischief) heads to post four under Lasix as the morning line 5-2 favorite. Trained by Brad Cox and with the services of Florent Geroux, he is a full-brother to GII Pat O'Brien S. victor Laurel River. Castlewarden's dam Calm Water (Empire Maker) is a full-sister to MGISW Emollient, who herself has produced French GSW Raclette (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and also Irish MGSW Peace Charter (War Front).

Opposing him at 5-1 is a son of Justify, whose first foals are now 3-year-olds. A WinStar and Siena Farm $675,000 '21 KEESEP purchase, HARBOUR BRIDGE has worked sharply for trainer Dallas Stewart (3-12, 5f, 1:00.60, 1/30) and will be ridden by Flavien Prat out of post six. This debut runner is the first to make it to the starting gate for the John D. Gunther bred and raced mare Tiger Moth (Street Sense), who won a pair of Graded stakes. Second dam Saratoga Cat (Sir Cat) also counts MGSW Last Gunfighter (First Samurai) as one of her own. TJCIS PPS

7th-FG, $75K, Msw, 3yof, 1 1/16m, 4:00 p.m.
Unlucky at first-asking sprinting in New Orleans Jan. 21 when she hopped at the start, overcame early contact, but still finished fourth, SUPER LUXE (Candy Ride {Arg}) will look to get back on track for owner Courtlandt Farms as the chestnut filly stretches out to two turns. A $725,000 '21KEESEP grad, the Steve Asmussen trainee switches to Joel Rosario and garnered 8-1 on the morning-line. Out of dam Montera (Easy Goer), her family includes MSW & GSP Easyfromthegitgo (Dehere) and Sue's Good News (Woodman), who is responsible for GI Odgen Phipps H. heroine Tiz Miz Sue (Tiznow) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Bulletin (City Zip). 13th-TP, $70K, Msw, 3yof, 1mAWT, 7:05 p.m.
The relationship between Spendthrift Farm and MyRacehorse continues its legacy as rookie BOPPY (Blame) draws post 11 in the Florence nightcap. A $300,000 '21 KEESEP buy, the Brad Cox trainee gets Hall of Fame rider John Velazquez in the irons as the 3-1 second choice. The dark bay filly is out of turf MGSW Daring Dancer (Empire Maker), whose own dam Vienna Affair (GB) (Red Ransom) is a half-sister G1SW Crowded House (GB) (Rainbow Quest). TJCIS PPS

T.C. Stevens, son of Hall of Fame Jockey Gary Stevens, will ride his first race as a professional jockey at Fair Grounds March 19 for trainer Steve Asmussen. T.C. has been named on Motown Missile (Mo Town) in the race six. A regular exercise rider for trainer Brad Cox, T.C. has morning rides on Instant Coffee (Bolt d'Oro), Hit Show (Candy Ride {Arg}), Zozos (Munnings), Strobe (Into Mischief), and Tapit's Conquest (Tapit).
