Echo Town Retired to Ashford

Grade I winner Echo Town (Speightstown–Letgomyecho, by Menifee) has been retired from racing and will stand for a fee of $10,000 at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud.

“We are delighted that Echo Town will be coming to Ashford,” said Ashford’s Director of Sales Charlie O’Connor. “He’s a very good-looking horse and Speightstown is making an impression as a sire of sires. As one of the best sprinters of his generation we think Echo Town offers a similar profile to our own Munnings who continues to go from strength to strength.”

Echo Town broke his maiden first out at Fair Grounds for Steve Asmussen, earning ‘TDN Rising Star’ status in the process. Two more convincing wins followed at Oaklawn Park and Churchill Downs before he was second in the GI Woody Stephens S. at Belmont. Next time out in the GI H. Allen Jerkens S. at Saratoga, he turned the tables on Woody Stephens victor No Parole (Violence) with a convincing 3 1/2-length score (video).

“We are extremely excited for Echo Town to stand at Coolmore America,” said co-owner Michael Levinson of L&N Racing. “He has been a star on the racetrack, and we’re confident Coolmore will give him every opportunity to succeed as a stallion. We look forward to seeing his foals hit the ground in 2022.”

A son of GII Forward Gal S. winner Letgomyecho, Echo Town is a half-brother to GSW J Boys Echo (Mineshaft) and GSP placed Unbridled Outlaw (Unbridled’s Song).

Echo Town is already at Ashford and available for inspection by appointment.

Outwork Filly Runs to the Money in Sharp Debut Score at Churchill

ABROGATE (f, 2, Outwork–Hot Coffee, by Burning Roma) took all the money for her debut Thursday at Churchill, broke on top and never looked back in a sharp victory, becoming the 13th winner for her streaking freshman sire (by Uncle Mo). Showing an upbeat worktab highlighted by a local five-furlong gate breeze in 1:00 2/5 (6/46) Nov. 1, the $270,000 Keeneland September grad was bet hard throughout and kicked smoothly from the stalls as a 3-2 chalk. Quickly taking command, the dark bay clicked off a :22.23 quarter before being set upon by Zoom Up (Upstart) nearing the straightaway. Cutting the corner into the lane, Abrogate quickly scooted clear again past the three-sixteenths pole and slammed the door in the final furlong, cruising past the wire in hand six lengths to the good of Zoom Up. The winner’s second dam is a half to 2010’s champion sprinter Big Drama (Montbrook) and MGISW Sheer Drama (Burning Roma). Her dam, a $30,000 Keeneland November purchase in 2015, has a yearling Daredevil filly who sold to Mike Rutherford for $130,000 at Fasig-Tipton October and is now named Thedevilyousay. Spendthrift Continues FTKNOV Buying Spree, Picks Up She’s a Julie for $3M

Dual Grade I winner She’s a Julie (Elusive Quality–Kydd Gloves, by Dubai Millenium {GB}) held her own during a star-studded run of mares at Fasig-Tipton November Sunday when selling for $3 million to Spendthrift Farm, who also bought Monomoy Girl (Tapizar) and Got Stormy (Get Stormy) earlier in the sale. Originally sold for $160,000 at KEESEP, the bay took a pair of Grade III events as a 3-year-old and added the GI La Troienne S. last spring before annexing the GI Ogden Phipps S. this year. The millionaire sold as hip 208 for consignor Denali Stud.

Midnight Bisou Hammers for $5M at FTKNOV As Co-Owner Allen Buys Out Other Partners

Superstar and champion Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute–Diva Delite, by Repent) was a predictably popular item at the Fasig-Tipton November ‘Night of the Stars’ Sunday, but in the end she’ll go to a familiar face, as Chuck Allen, partner on the mare during her racing career, bought out the other partners and brought the hammer down at $5 million. The 5-year-old sold as hip 185, consigned by ELiTE Sales. A five-time graded stakes winner and dual Grade I winner as a sophomore, the $80,000 OBS April buy earned a runaway divisional championship at four with a remarkable seven graded stakes tallies and four top-level successes. She added the GII Fleur de Lis S. and was runner-up in the $20-million Saudi Cup this term before being retired while prepping for the Breeders’ Cup. She had 13 wins, all in graded stakes, from 22 outings, never finished out of the money and is the highest-earning U.S. dirt mare in history with $7,516,520 in the bank.
