Star Guitar’s TDN Rising Star Manama Gold Remains Unbeaten in UAE Oaks

'TDN Rising Star' MANAMA GOLD (f, 3, Star Guitar–Charged Cotton, Dehere) remained perfect with a 1 1/4-length tally in the AED700,000 G3 UAE Oaks over the closing Mizzyaan (Justify) at Meydan Racecourse on Friday. It was the first stakes win for the chestnut, who covered the 1900-metre trip in 2:00.81.

In charge from the bell, as none of her five rivals seemed overly interested in picking up the baton, Manama Gold was always going along at an easy clip while staying fairly close to the rail past the clubhouse turn and down the backstretch. Mizzyaan kept a close eye on the Fawzi Nass trainee the whole way around from second just off Manama Gold's girth, and Lighting Paradise (Congrats) saved every inch of ground in third. Once the real running began, Manama Gold did not open up as readily as in her past two trips to the post, but she still managed to come home without ever being headed, albeit the winning margin was smaller. Adrie de Vries took care with his filly, and did not ask too much of her to secure the victory. Lightning Paradise threatened to take over the place position down the lane, but Mizzyaan found another gear and fought her off to retain second, 1 3/4 lengths ahead of that foe.

A winner of her Meydan debut going 1400 metres on Dec. 12, Manama Gold extended the margin to 9 1/4 in a 1600-metre conditions race where she earned her 'TDN Rising Star badge.

Pedigree Notes

The 15 stakes winner and second Pattern winner for her Louisiana-based sire, Manama Gold is the second stakes winner for her dam, Charged Cotton. Star Guitar was previously represented by GII Honorable Miss H. heroine Minit To Stardom.

She is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Sethamee Street (Street Sense), and a full-sister to multiple stakes winner Ova Charged (Star Guitar), who was second in Belmont's GIII Victory Ride S. A stakes winner at Laurel, Charged Cotton visited Not This time in 2022, and the result was a yearling filly. She was barren to the cover of Star Guitar for this year.

GI Philip H. Iselin H. and GI Jerome H. hero Schossberg (Broad Brush) is under the third dam.

Star Guitar Filly Gets The Gold At Meydan En Route To ‘TDN Rising Star’ Honours

Already a 2 1/2-length winner in her unveiling over this Meydan strip going 1400 metres on Dec. 22, Manama Gold (Star Guitar–Charged Cotton, by Dehere) doubled her tally with an imperious 9 1/4-length victory in the Cocoa Beach S. Presented By Jebel Ali Port over a mile there on Friday and became the latest 'TDN Rising Star'.

The Victorious runner, trained by Fawzi Nass, raced in between rivals on the front end from the chute and dropped back for a breather rounding the bend as fellow front-runner Lahfaty (Mitole) asserted while pressed by Frost At Dawn (Frosted). Adrie de Vries urged his mount to quicken at the head of the straight and she duly obliged with a strong turn of foot, as they shifted out into the centre of the track to challenge in the lane. The chestnut forged past the leading duo and strode clear to win with authority. Three-and-a-half lengths separated the second, Lahfaty, and third, Kibo Misaki (Girvin).

“I got a little bit of pressure on the turn; it got a little bit tight,” said de Vries. “But once Jim's horse [Crowley, Frost At Dawn] came past me then it was just a matter of straightening up and she did the job pretty easy.

“I didn't want to be too hard on her, but I wanted to teach her something. Once she hits the front she doesn't do much–she's just having a look around. I guess that's a good thing.”

Part of the Taylor Made consignment at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale, the chestnut caught the eye of Lane Richardson, who shelled out $100,000 on behalf of Kevin Knuckley. Richardson Bloodstock re-offered Manama Gold at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training in March of 2023 after she breezed a furlong in :10 1/5. Her value doubled to $200,000, when she was marked as sold to Oliver St Lawrence Bloodstock.

Already a half-sister to the stakes-placed Sethamee Street (Street Sense) and a full-sister to multiple stakes winner Ova Charged (Star Guitar), who has earned her black-type accolades in Lousiana where their sire stands, Manama Gold has a half-sister by Not This Time born last year. Her dam was barren to the cover of Star Guitar for this spring.

Star Guitar Filly Plays A Merry Tune At Meydan

3rd-Meydan, AED210,000, Cond., 12-22, 1400m, 1:24.64, ft.
MANAMA GOLD (f, 2, Star Guitar–Charged Cotton, by Dehere), who attracted plenty of hype prior to this first start, ran to her billing and emerged a 2 1/2 length winner at Meydan. Kept off the fence as Frost At Dawn (Frosted) made the running, the Louisiana-bred was keen to go on rounding the bend and Adrie de Vries had his hands full keeping her content. She tackled the leader at the head of the straight, and ground determinedly past her 250 metres from home, before going on to win a shade cozily. It was the second win on the card for de Vries. “This is a bit what I expected,” said the winning jockey. “She trialled really well; trained on from then, got more professional and she's a very clever filly. She was having a nice look at the winning post. I always like it when a horse is having a look around, it often means there's a bit left in the tank.” Originally sold for $100,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, the chestnut caught the eye of Oliver St Lawrence after breezing a furlong in :10 1/5, and was knocked down for $200,000 out of the OBS April Sale. Charged Cotton, who won the All Brandy S. at Laurel, has already foaled the stakes-placed Sethamee Street (Street Sense), and multiple stakes winner Ova Charged (Star Guitar), who was second in the GIII Victory Ride S. at Belmont Park. Her latest is a weanling filly by Not This Time. Sales history: $100,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP; and $200,000 2yo '23 OBSAPR. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, AED126,000. Click for the ERA chart & video.
