Foal Patrol Presented By National Museum Of Racing And Hall Of Fame: Elate’s Mothering Style Runs In The Family

Since its first season in 2018, millions have tuned in to Foal Patrol around the world for a behind-the-scenes look at what daily life is like for in-foal mares and foals. Learn more about Season 5 featured mares at www.foalpatrol.com.

Foal Patrol has partnered with the Paulick Report this season to bring you closer to featured mares and foals and to ask farm staff questions about their care and health before and after foaling.

In this episode spotlighting Elate at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky., Paulick Report staff ask Claiborne's Mary Ormsby, “How does Elate's mothering style compare to her own mother's?”

Elate, her mother Cheery, and her grandmother Yell were all born at Claiborne Farm, and they were foaled out by the same member of the farm's staff. This means the team had plenty of past performance to project how Elate would handle herself as a mother when she had her first foal last year.

For a chance to have one of your questions asked in an upcoming Paulick Report episode, email your question to foalpatrol@racingmuseum.net. Be sure to let us know if your question is for a specific Season 5 mare.

Foal Patrol Season 5 education content begins with breeding and reproduction and covers various aspects of the life of a Thoroughbred horse, from foaling through retirement. New content for Foal Patrol viewers of all ages will be added to the Foal Patrol Education Site weekly, from January through June 2022, at www.foalpatrol.com/education.

Echo Town (Speightstown)'s first foals have arrived.

Miss Sephora (First Samurai), a half-sister to GSW Pataky Kid (Rockport Harbor), produced a bay filly by Echo Town bred by Allen Poindexter.

Then on Thursday, My Tempo (Declaration of War) foaled a chestnut colt at Chesapeake Farm by Echo Town bred by
Crown Chase Farm.

“He is a really nice colt, very correct with plenty of bone and quality,” Collier Mathes said. “After seeing him, Echo Town is definitely a stallion that I'd be looking to breed back to.”

Echo Town, winner of the 2020 GI H. Allen Jerkens S. at Saratoga and a half-brother to the brilliant unbeaten GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies heroine Echo Zulu (Gun Runner), stands for $7,500 at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

Speightstown’s Dean’s List Maintains Good Standing with Second Win

5th-Gulfstream, $55,400, Alw (NW1$X)/Opt. Clm ($75,000), 1-8, 3yo, 6f, 1:09.34, ft, neck.
DEAN'S LIST (c, 3, Speightstown–Mildly Offensive {MSW, $285,826}, by Sharp Humor) was an easy last out winner on career debut, taking the Dec. 11 track-and-trip contest by 5 1/2 lengths. Hammered down to 1-5 favoritism for this sophomore bow while receiving first-time Lasix, the WinStar homebred was jostled a bit at the break, but recovered quickly to emerge from the center of the pack as the controlling speed. Rolling into the final turn off a brisk :22.13 opening quarter, it was a 'Dean' exacta at the top of the stretch as stakes-placed Dean Delivers (Cajun Breeze) loomed large to the outside. The pair locked horns for the stretch battle and Dean's List bravely fought off his challenger to win by a neck. Dean's List has an unnamed 2-year-old half-brother by Carpe Diem. His second dam is MGSW It's Personal (Personal Flag), who also produced MGSW It's No Joke (Distorted Humor). Sales history: $220,000 RNA Ylg '20 FTKSEL. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $64,200.
