Old Friends Opens Up Halter Auction to Absentee Bidding

Kentucky's Thoroughbred retirement farm Old Friends, which previously announced a Breeders' Cup celebration to be held Sunday, Nov. 6, has opened up absentee auction bidding for halters worn by Affirmed Success, Authentic, Groupie Doll, Gun Runner, Lava Man, Midnight Bisou, Paynter, War Front, and Yoshida (Jpn). Each item is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Interested buyers unable to attend on Sunday can bid by emailing name, address, phone number, and highest bid to: horses@oldfriendsequine.org. For more information on the event, click here. Bidding deadline is Saturday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m. ET.

Family Hosts Fundraiser For Paul Jeremy

The family of blacksmith and former huntsman Paul Jeremy, who was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma, is hosting a fundraiser to help support his long-term financial needs. Old Friends Hosting Breeders’ Cup Celebration

Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Georgetown, Ky., will host a special Breeders' Cup Celebration Sunday Nov. 6 from 12:00-4 p.m.

Tickets are $40 for the general public and $20 for Old Friends Clubhouse members. Children under 12 are free. Reservations can be made online by visiting the Old Friends website (www.oldfriendsequine.org), or by calling the farm at (502) 863-1775.

Guests will enjoy a barbeque buffet by Proud Mary's, live Bluegrass music from Steve Norman and Friends, and both live and silent auctions of racing memorabilia, collectible stallion halters, artwork, pottery, and more–much of which will celebrate the history of the Breeders' Cup.

There will also be a live demonstration by equine artist Robert Clarke who will create an on-site painting of a 2022 Breeders' Cup winner (TBA). The original canvas will be auctioned at the end of the afternoon.

In its history, Old Friends has retired 14 Breeders' Cup winners, including 1988 Sprint winner Gulch and 1991 and 1996 Classic winners Black Tie Affair and Alphabet Soup, respectively.

“It's always exciting when the Breeders' Cup is here in our backyard at Keeneland,” said Old Friends founder and President Michael Blowen. “It's such a wonderful opportunity for fans to visit Old Friends, meet our winners, and celebrate the history of the Championships. It's a great party.”

Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation To Hold Silent Art Auction At Belmont On Oct. 9

The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, in collaboration with TRF board member Anita Motion, will host a silent auction of original artwork to benefit the nearly 500 horses in the care of the organization. The event will be held at Belmont Park on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The display featuring the artwork will be set up in the Clubhouse Lobby at Belmont Park and will run throughout the day starting when gates open at 11:00 a.m. The auction will close at approximately 4:52 p.m. the start of the day's ninth race on the eleven race card. Art must be paid for and picked up by 5:30 p.m. on the day of the event.

The artwork up for auction features original pieces by acclaimed artists featuring Off the Track Thoroughbreds thriving in second careers and was organized by TRF board member Anita Motion.

“There is nothing more beautiful than a Thoroughbred,” said Motion. “These pieces showcase the beauty and versatility of these amazing athletes and we are excited to offer racing fans a chance to get one of these incredible pieces for their own home all while benefiting a very deserving cause.”
