Doyle to Become First Retained Rider for Wathnan Racing

Leading flat jockey James Doyle is set to become the first retained rider for Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's Wathnan Racing beginning in January, the organisation announced on Monday. The 35-year-old had been riding as second jockey for Godolphin since January 2015 and will join Wathnan when his contract expires at the end of this year.

“It is a tremendous honour for me to sign for Wathnan,” Doyle said. “It's an amazing opportunity for me going forward with His Highness Sheikh Tamim's Wathnan Racing and I'm greatly looking forward to working with Olly Tait, Richard Brown and the rest of the team.

“I want to thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, Charlie Appleby and everyone at Godolphin for the unstinting support they've given me over the last nine years. It's been a wonderful time and I have enjoyed literally every moment. But this is an incredible new venture and I can't wait to get started in January.”

Doyle is a multiple Group 1-winning jockey having partnered with notable runners Kingman (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), Noble Mission (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), Sea Of Class (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) and Rebel's Romance (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) over his career so far.

“James has been a key member of our team for his whole time with us and, whilst we will miss him greatly, he is leaving very much with our blessing and we wish him all the very best with this exciting new chapter in his riding career,” Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby said.

Wathnan Racing's Adviser Olly Tait added: “Wathnan is delighted to have retained the services of James Doyle. He is a fantastic rider and an incredible addition to the team. We are all looking forward to working closely with James in the coming years.”

Racing to School Renews Council for Learning Outside the Classroom Accreditation

Racing to School has had its accreditation by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC) extended for a further two years, the organisation announced Monday. The charity offers young people a high-quality outdoor learning experience and introduces many participants to horse racing for the first time by bringing the curriculum to life using racing's unique venues.

John Blake, Chief Executive of Racing to School said, “To be awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge once again is testament to our team's efforts to achieve high quality interventions for our beneficiaries, even as we have expanded our work to record levels.”

Held by some of the leading providers of educational visits, the LOtC Quality Badge is endorsed by the Department for Education and the Outdoor Education Advisers' Panel Cymru.

Dr Anne Hunt, Chief Executive of CLOtC said: “Educational visits are among the most memorable experiences in a child's school life. Tattersalls December Yearling Sale Catalogue Now Online

The catalogue for the 2023 Tattersalls December Yearling Sale, set to be held Monday, Nov. 27, is out and can be viewed online. A total of 188 lots are set to sell over the one-day sale that immediately precedes the December Foal Sale, which will take place from Tuesday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 2.

Last year's sale produced a number of standouts, including dual Group 1 winning 2-year-old Vandeek (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) and G1 Pretty Polly S. winner Via Sistina (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Ire}), purchased for 42,000gns and 5,000gns, respectively.

Overall this year there are own or half-brothers and sisters to 41 Group and Listed winners catalogued and 27 yearlings out of Group and Listed-winning dams, including five Classic/Group 1 winners and the last yearling by the late Galileo (Ire) (lot 171) to sell at public auction.

Also among the offerings this year are 11 yearlings eligible for the £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus Scheme, which will increase from £20,000 to £25,000 in 2024, and 18 yearlings eligible for the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction S., as well as four yearlings eligible for the €250,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction S. The catalogue also features 26 fillies already entered for the Great British Bonus and one lot qualified for French Owners' Premiums.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “This year's catalogue has an abundance of quality, including the last ever yearling by the incomparable Galileo to be offered at public auction, as well as a large number of yearlings eligible for lucrative £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonuses, the ever-popular £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes, and the well-established Great British Bonuses.”

Group 1 Winner Triple Time Retired to Dalham Hall Stud

G1 Queen Anne S. winner Triple Time (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) is to join the Darley roster at Dalham Hall Stud from 2024.

Trained by Kevin Ryan, the four-year-old won four of his eight starts, including striking twice at two when he broke his maiden by nine and a half lengths and went on to win the Listed Ascendant S. at Haydock.

Missing out on the following year's Classics with a setback, Triple Time returned in September to land the G3 Superior Mile, and posted his best performance this year, again on his seasonal debut, when beating Inspiral (GB) at Royal Ascot in the Queen Anne.

Bred by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, he is one of seven black-type performers and six black-type winners for the remarkable Mark Of Esteem (Ire) mare Reem Three (GB), herself a Listed-placed treble winner who was rated 97. Triple Time's half-siblings include the Gi Prix Jean Romanet winner Ajman Princess (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) and G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein winner Ostilio (GB) (New Approach {Ire}). The family has been boosted further still this season by the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Rosallion (Ire), who is by Darley's first-season sire Blue Point (Ire) and out of Rosaline (Ire), a full-sister to Ostilio.

Sam Bullard, Darley's director of stallions, said, “Triple Time's victory in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot was the pinnacle of a superb career for this impeccably bred horse. He is from a truly outstanding female family and being an elite miler by Frankel, we think he will be very popular with breeders. We look forward to showing him at Dalham in the very near future.”
