Further Change To NH Sales Schedules

Tattersalls and Goffs have released further changes to the schedule of point-to-point sales in December.

The Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale, which originally had been scheduled to follow the end of the Tattersalls December Mares’ Sale on Thursday, Dec. 3, will now be staged at Park Paddocks in Newmarket a week later on Thursday, Dec. 10.

Goffs UK will hold its December P2P Sale at Yorton Farm Stud in Wales on Thursday, Dec. 17.

“Not for the first time in 2020 Tattersalls and Goffs have worked collaboratively in the best interests of all concerned,” said Matthew Prior, Head of the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sales. “The revised schedule will allow our mutual clientele to take part in both sales and we look forward to hosting our first P2P Sale in Newmarket. We are aware that Goffs have an established NH Sale on the same day as our revised date, and we appreciate their acceptance that extenuating circumstances make this one-off clash unavoidable.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent added, “We would like to thank Tattersalls for once again working with us to find a solution that best assists the point-to-point market during this busy autumn period. Goffs received some very positive feedback after the Yorton Farm Sale on 12 November and have reacted to requests from vendors to revisit this concept on 17 December. We are grateful to the Futter and Potter families for hosting us again and we look forward to working with vendors to compile the catalogue of horses in the coming weeks.”

Tripartite Group Releases Statement On Diversity

The British Horseracing Authority, The Horsemen’s Group and the Racecourse Association released a joint statement on Friday concerning diversity in racing. The statement comes on the heels of television presenter Rishi Persad receiving negative feedback for speaking out against racism in recent days, responses the groups say they condemn. The BHA invited Persad to join its scheduled meeting on Wednesday to share his views on racing’s approach to diversity.

The joint statement read, “Racing prides itself on the welcome it gives to all. We want to engage fans from all communities and we want talented people, whatever their background, to be able to succeed in our sport. However, our industry’s leaders acknowledge that pockets of discrimination exist in all areas of society, and our sport is no different. All are agreed that this has no place in our industry and that the sport must unite in standing against discrimination of any kind in racing. We can, and will, do better on this front.

“We pride ourselves on the respect we show for our horses and for the sport’s rules and traditions. We are a sport which has embraced diversity in many ways, including people of all genders competing on equal terms. We must welcome constructive debate on any issue, but we expect all those in our sport to show respect to each other when competing and when discussing our sport and its future.”

From The Experts: Ed Player

On the back of the eagerly anticipated stallion fee announcements in Europe, Gary King spoke with a number of leading industry figures about value. Today we have the astute Ed Player of Whatton Manor Stud.

GK: Who have you identified as a first-year stallion at an appealing opening fee?

EP: There are some seriously exciting new stallions for next year with Pinatubo (Ire) (Shamardal), Mohaather (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) and Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) top of the list. However, I think the value lies with Without Parole (GB) (Frankel {GB}), a Group 1 winning miler by Frankel at ÂŁ10,000 has to be a steal.

GK: Best value proven stallion, and why?

EP: I’m a big fan of New Bay (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) and feel he represents great value at €20,000. But the best value proven stallion has to be Sea The Moon (Ger) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) at ÂŁ22,500. His statistics are outstanding and I get the impression he’s just getting going.

GK: Who would you consider to be an under the radar stallion?

EP: I get the feeling Ulysses (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) just might be the one here. He’s got everything to make it as a stallion, good looks, racing ability and there was a great vibe about his yearlings. At ÂŁ10,000 he’s well worth using.

Goffs To Auction Aga Khan’s Ebendi Online

The Aga Khan’s homebred Ebendi (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}) will be auctioned on Tuesday, Nov. 24 in a single-horse online sale conducted by Goffs

The 3-year-old was forced to miss his recent slot in the Goffs Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale after getting cast in his stable. The winner of a Killarney maiden over a mile and three furlongs in July, he subsequently finished runner-up to Order Of Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}) at the Curragh in September before the latter’s victory in the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland.

A half-brother to the G2 Prix de Royallieu winner Ebiyza (Ire) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}), Ebendi’s dam is out of the G1 Irish Oaks and G1 Prix Royal-Oak winner Ebadiyla (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells), herself a half-sister to the Queen’s Gold Cup winner Estimate (Ire) (Monsun {Ger}).

Ebendi will be offered with a reserve of €60,000 and online bidding will open at 10am on Tuesday for two hours, until midday. Prospective purchasers should register to bid online with Goffs by 5pm on Monday, Nov. 23.
