Following the abandonment of Gowran Park's Wednesday meeting, a replacement fixture has been scheduled at that venue for June 14, Horse Racing Ireland announced on Thursday. Entries for the afternoon meeting will close at noon on June 9, with declarations to be made by 10 a.m. on June 12. The first post will begin at 1:45 p.m.

Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown Winner Daring Tact (Jpn) (Epiphaneia {Jpn}) has injured her right foreleg and will be sidelined for at least nine months, reported www.p.nikkansports.com. The 4-year-old filly was diagnosed with ligamentitis upon her return to Shiga Prefecture to quarantine after a trip to Hong Kong, according to Makio Okada of Okada Stud Group. Daring Tact will return to Normandy Farm to recover.
“She was diagnosed and will require nine-months off to heal,” said Okada. “It's not good to overdo it. If you overdo it, the range of motion will be narrow. Because it is [Daring Tact we are dealing with] I want to heal it firmly over time. I think she will be back next April.”
Trained by Haruki Sugiyama, the bay rattled off victories in G1 Japanese 1000 Guineas last April, the G1 Japanese Oaks a month later, and the G1 Japanese Fillies' St Leger in October. Although winless since, the Normandy Thoroughbred Racing colourbearer was a very good third in the Nov. 29 G1 Japan Cup in the wake of Japanese Horse of the Year Almond Eye (Jpn) (Lord Kanaloa {Jpn}) and 2020 Triple Crown Winner Contrail (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}). Resuming on Mar. 14, she ran second in the G2 Kinko Sho at Chukyo and ran third at Sha Tin in Hong Kong on Apr. 25.

Hollie Doyle and Listed Novibet Oaks Trial Fillies' S. heroine Sherbet Lemon (Lemon Drop Kid), who races for Apple Tree Stud, will team up for the June 4 G1 Cazoo Oaks at Epsom Downs.
“She's very well, and we're really looking forward to next Friday,” said former NH jockey Robert 'Choc' Thornton, who manages the Apple Tree racing and stud operation for Paul Dunkley. “She's done some work–she did a gallop on Friday and she's absolutely fine. It's just a case of keeping her ticking over for the big day.”
Doyle was aboard for the filly's maiden win in February, but was not in the irons for her next two runs, as she had commitments to owner Imad Al Sagar. Sherbet Lemon was fourth with Tom Marquand in the saddle at Wetherby in a novice on Apr. 25 and returned on May 8 to with the Listed Novibet Oaks Trial Fillies' S. at a big price under Paul Mulrennan.
“She stays and she seems quite versatile,” he said. “She won on the all-weather at Newcastle, and it was quick ground at Wetherby when she was fourth. She got no run at all, and I was actually very pleased with the way she ran that day–because she stayed on really well, and we know there were traffic problems.
“Then at the Oaks trial, the listed race at Lingfield, she was fantastic. She travelled on soft ground, and Lingfield is undulating and possibly as close as you can get to Epsom away from Epsom.”
“We'd hope we have a good each-way chance–if she could finish fourth or fifth then she'd have run very well,” he said. “My only slight concern is the possibility that we haven't got the tactical speed early–in Group 1s they go a good gallop.
“We wouldn't want her in top gear all the way, so we may have to sit and suffer at some stage early on just to find her rhythm and find her gear, and then she should be staying on at the end.”

Mike Etherington-Smith, Helena Flynn and Stephen Wensley were all appointed to the Horse Welfare Board, the HWB announced on Wednesday. The trio, whose roles will be funded by the Racing Foundation, will work across racing to coordinate the implementation of the Horse Welfare Strategy and will be accountable to Barry Johnson, the HWB's independent chair. Racing Foundation CEO Rob Hezel was directly involved in the recruitment process.
Etherington-Smith, who has designed multiple Olympic event courses, will be the Equine Safety Advisor. Helena Flynn has been named Programme Director and Stephen Wensley is the new Welfare Data Projects Lead. They will work closely with Claire Cuff who began in February as the Head of Welfare Communications, whose post is funded by the Horserace Betting Levy Board.
Barry Johnson, the HWB's Independent Chair, said, “We are enormously excited and encouraged by the formation of this impressive team. Not only are their skills and experience truly world class, they have also demonstrated a strong ability to work collaboratively. This was essential, as we wanted a team who would support racing and its people to fulfil our collective ambitions in relation to horse welfare.

We felt he could help us ensure that racing has a clear programme of effective welfare data projects, which can be used by the whole industry to build understanding and drive improvements.”
