The Queen's DUKEDOM (IRE) (Dubawi {Ire}) is a son of MG1SP G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches runner-up Nathra (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) and debuts for Team John and Thady Gosden in a contest noted for the 'TDN Rising Star' display of subsequent G1 St James's Palace S. second King of Comedy (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) in 2018. His rivals include Charles Hills trainee Sonny Liston (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}), who is a half-brother to last term's MG1SP G1 British Champions Fillies & Mares runner-up Dame Malliot (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}).

Creative Cause Colt Leads Summer Sale Breezers

A 2-year-old colt by American-based sire Creative Cause is bound for the stable of trainer Simone Brogi after Nicolas de Watrigant of Mandore International Agency went to €100,000 to secure the colt on behalf of Middleham Park Racing and partners during the opening session of the Arqana Summer Sale on Wednesday. Lot 8, out of the winning Proud Citizen mare Fight With Pride, represented a good pinhook for Willie Browne of Mocklershill, having cost $12,000 at Keeneland September last year. The colt was bred by Brereton Jones and his son Bret Jones, who own Airdrie Stud in Kentucky and stand the sire and also stood the damsire. He was the top-priced lot of the early breeze-up portion of the session, where 70 youngsters were offered, with 48 sold (68.6%) for an aggregate of €721,500. The average for the 2-year-olds was €15,031, and the median €8,500.

“He's a lovely looking colt, the horse of the sale if you ask me,” said de Watrigant. “He was meant to go to the breeze-up in May, but after a setback he came here. I've bought him for an association between Middleham Park Racing, Tim Palin, a client of Simone Brogi's, Thomas Bernereau and Pierre Pilarski, whose colours he will run in. He'll be trained by Simone Brogi.”

Also among the leading juveniles offered on Wednesday was Knockanglass Stable's Night Of Thunder (Ire) colt out of Clowning (Distorted Humor) (lot 81i), who was bought by Jean-Pierre Deroubaix of F.B.A for €70,000, having been bought back for €48,800 from Arqana's breeze-up sale at Doncaster and having originally been a 75,000gns yearling. He was bought for Jurgen Sartori, who is making a return to racing having also bought Group 3 winner No Limit Credit (Ger), also by Night Of Thunder, for €480,000 at Arqana December last year. Lot 81i will go into training in Germany. Like the top-priced breezer, he comes from an American family; he is out of an unraced daughter of dual Grade I winner Flashing (A.P. Indy), who has produced the French listed winner and group placed Floodlight (Medaglia d'Oro).

Edging the Creative Cause colt for top lot of the sale was a gelded son of Zarak (Fr), a first-season sire who was a Group 1 winner on the flat but those headline-making son on Wednesday was catalogued as a 2-year-old store. That is because he is the first foal out of the listed-placed jumper Boreal Du Berlais, and from a quality family in that realm. Lot 214 was bought by Paul Basquin from Haras du Saubouas for €110,000. Two additional 2-year-old stores reached the six-figure mark: lot 234, a son of Authorized (Ire), and lot 192, a son of No Risk At All (Fr), each fetched €100,000.

The session was largely comprised of the breeze-up and store 2-year-olds, but also contained a small group of 3-year-old stores and horses in training. A total of 169 horses were sold on the day (73%) for €3,517,500, at an average of €20,814 and a median of €14,000.

Viadera’s Sister Gets Black Type At Tipperary

Sent to Wednesday's Listed Coolmore Ten Sovereigns Tipperary S. just a week after scoring on debut at Naas, Juddmonte's Sacred Bridge (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}) was able to continue the momentum and gain a first black-type success in a race marred by the fatal breakdown suffered by Ballydoyle's Amalfi Coast (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}). Sent off the even-money favourite dropping back from six furlongs to five, the Ger Lyons-trained full sister to last year's GI Matriarch S. heroine Viadera (GB) pursued the early pace and after gaining the advantage passing the furlong pole asserted to score by 1 1/4 lengths from Misty Ayr (Ire) (Kodi Bear {Ire}). Amalfi Coast was well beaten when sustaining the catastrophic injury near the line.

“We have obviously done very little with her and she actually put weight on since and was giving us all the signs she wanted to go back,” Shane Lyons said. “She did that very genuinely and Colin [Keane] loves her temperament. She'll mix and match it between five and six. She has an exciting future. This filly is smaller than Viadera, but has the same temperament and oozes class.”

The aforementioned Viadera captured the Listed Cairn Rouge S. and was runner-up in the G3 Anglesey S. for this stable prior to shipping Stateside to win the Matriarch and the GIII Noble Damsel S. The dam also produced Crossed Baton (GB) (Dansili {GB}), who took the Listed Blue Riband Trial and Listed Churchill S. and was runner-up in the G2 Grand Prix de Maisons-Laffitte, G2 Prix Eugene Adam and G3 Hampton Court S. The listed-winning second dam Quandary (Blushing Groom {Fr}) was also responsible for the Listed Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Double Crossed (GB) (Caerleon) who is best known as the dam of the four-times group 1-winning European champion Twice Over (GB) (Observatory). Quandary is also the second dam of the group 1 heroines Passage of Time (GB) (Dansili {GB}) and Timepiece (GB) (Zamindar) related to the G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp winner All At Sea (Riverman). Sacred Shield's yearling colt is by Camacho (GB), while she also has a foal full-sister to the winner and Viadera.

Mojo Star Camp Eyeing St Leger Bid

Mojo Star (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), runner-up in the G1 Cazoo Derby at Epsom at the beginning of June and fifth after a rough trip in the Irish equivalent on Saturday, has emerged from his latest effort in good order. Trainer Richard Hannon is considering the Sept. 11 G1 St Leger at Doncaster, as well as targets earlier in the summer. Second at Newbury in October, the bay filled the same position there when making his 3-year-old bow on May 14, prior to his runner-up effort in the blue riband.

“He's come back fine,” said Hannon. “He's just been out in the pen since and had a trot yesterday and today. He's none the worse for it and we'll have a chat to connections about where we go from here.”

The July 24 G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot is under consideration, as Newmarket's G2 Princess of Wales's S. on July 8.

He added, “He's in the King George and the Princess of Wales's S. and obviously the St Leger is an option later on in the year. He's fit and he doesn't need to do any more [work]. At some stage we'll take an easy run and then go back into something big. I'd love to have a crack at the Leger, but we'll see how we go.”
