Potential Targets Outlined For Go Bears Go

Go Bears Go (Ire) (Kodi Bear {Ire}), who ran third in the G1 Keeneland Phoenix S. at The Curragh on Sunday, will make his next start in either the Aug. 22 G1 Prix Morny at Deauville later this month or the G2 Gimcrack S. at York on Aug. 20, trainer Dave Loughnane revealed on Monday. A winner of an Ascot novice on May 8, the colt was second in the G2 Norfolk S. at Royal Ascot prior to winning the June 26 G2 GAIN Rainway S.

He said, “At the end of the day he was beaten a length on his first start in a Group 1, so you couldn't be disappointed.

“He's a Group 1 horse, whether he won yesterday or not. We have a couple of options. There's the Prix Morny at Deauville in a couple of weeks' time, and the Gimcrack in York is also an option. He'd have a 3lb penalty in the Gimcrack, with it being a Group 2, but that wouldn't bother us. It will all depend on where the quicker ground is.

“The ground looked pretty soft in Deauville yesterday, but the weather does look pretty good between now and the Morny. You never know in France as they do seem to water the tracks a lot and we're not going to go there unless it's quick ground.”

Haydock Sprint Cup Next For Starman

Starman (GB) (Dutch art {GB}), the winner of the G1 July Cup, will aim for a start in the G1 Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock on Sept. 4 after running a close third in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Sunday. A winner of his first three starts last fall, including the Listed Garrowby S. at York in September, the 4-year-old colt did not care for the soft ground in the G1 QIPCO British Champions Sprint S. and ran unplaced in October. he was back on top in the G2 Duke Of York Clipper Logistics S. on May 12 prior to his Newmarket victory on July 10.

Trainer Ed Walker said, “We live to fight another day and when we get him back on proper fast ground, we'll see his true colours again. We've so much rain, we're surely due a dry spell. We'll aim for Haydock and see how we go.”

Breeders’ Day Set For Sept. 15 at Sandown

The inaugural Breeders' Day will take place at Sandown Park Racecourse with the Thoroughbred Breeders' Assocation (TBA) on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Set during National Racehorse Week (Sept. 12-19), the event will provide racegoers with a unique insight into the breeding industry, engaging them with competitions, interactive displays, a QR code trail, a retired racehorse parade, interviews with breeders, give-aways, and trade stands. Opportunities to learn about shared ownership options and how to get involved in thoroughbred breeding will be available, while students and those considering a career change can learn from The National Stud's 'Entry for Stud Employment' programme about roles in the industry.

Each race will be sponsored by an organisation from within the bloodstock industry, with additional prizes for the breeder of each winner. The National Trainer's Federation (NTF) is also supporting Breeders' Day and will present its Lycetts Team and Championship Awards to nominated yards during the course of the afternoon. Tickets for the event may be purchased at www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/sandown.

Peter Jensen, Chairman of Sandown Park, said, “This is an initiative suggested by Petra Gough, one of the team here, several years ago and so we are delighted to finally have the opportunity to make it happen. It is fantastic that the TBA have partnered with us and we hope that the day will really showcase the vital role that breeders play in our industry to a new audience.”
