First ThoroughBid Sale Set For Sept. 12

New digital sale platform ThoroughBid will host its first sale on Sept. 12, the company announced on Thursday. Entries will be accepted for the platform through Friday, Sept. 3. ThoroughBid, which is currently a team sponsor in the William Hill Racing League, will kick off their sale at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12, with bidding ending for each lot at two-minute intervals beginning at 6 p.m. In addition, anti-snipe technology will be utilised, so that any bid made in the last minute will extend the auction by an additional two minutes.

Will Kinsey, co-founder of ThoroughBid, said, “The feedback we've had since launching last month has been very encouraging. ThoroughBid's sponsorship of the Racing League has helped raise awareness of what we are doing and it's been great to hear from a range of trainers, owners and breeders who are all interested in being involved in our first sale.

“The first sale falling in mid-September provides everyone with a good opportunity to buy and sell bloodstock. The flexibility of our product means we can setup future sales to suit the needs of the industry rather than sticking to traditional dates.”

Added Andrew Balding, who currently leads the UK Trainers' Championship and is one of Team ThoroughBid's trainers in the Racing League, “Selling horses is always a challenge and a new platform like ThoroughBid is very welcome.

“Not everybody needs to be waiting for the autumn sales and, obviously, income for our owners is very important if they are going to re-invest in time for the yearling sales.”

Tatts Ireland July Store Sale Debuts

A 3-year-old daughter of former champion NH sire Flemensfirth (Lot 325) claimed the top price of €50,000 at Tattersalls Ireland's inaugural July Store Sale Wednesday.

“She has been bought as a racing and breeding prospect for on behalf of Niall Flynn and his family,” explained purchaser Michael Tobin. “She is a lovely model with a good mind, a good Flemensfirth. The pedigree speaks for itself and the first dam is still breeding so there is more to come, hopefully. A trainer has not yet been decided.”

Sold by Sunnyhill Stud, the filly is out of Princess Gaia (King's Theatre), a sister to Hatton's Grace Hurdle Grade 1 winner Voler La Vedette (Ire). Princess Gaia is also a half-sister to Hennessy, winner of the G3 Gold Cup H. Chase at Sandown, and to the dam of Shishkin, the dual Group 1 Festival winner of the Supreme Novices Hurdle and the Arkle Challenge Trophy.

Lot 284, a 3-year-old daughter of Saint Des Saints (Fr) went to agent Matt Coleman, who was successful at €45,000.

“She is for Semore Kurdi, who is based in the north of England. He will go back to the farm and be turned out for a year before coming in to be broken,” said Coleman of plans for the Springhill Stud-consigned April-born first foal out of Milanteea (Ire) (Milan).

“Semore was particularly after a Saint Des Saints filly to race and then breed from and this is a lovely, good moving, racy filly. Her dam is a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Identity Thief (Ire), and Saint Des Saints is a phenomenal sire and is a very good broodmare sire, too,” added Coleman.

At the conclusion of Wednesday's single-day sale, a total of 143 head sold for a gross of €1,491,900. The median for the session was €8,000, while the average was €10,433.

Commenting on the July Store Sale, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said: “It was a shame that the new July Store Sale didn't get to take place on its original date, but we are very pleased with the trade that has been achieved throughout the day and we would like to thank all vendors and purchasers for their participation. It has been encouraging to see so many people descend on Fairyhouse and to see strong demand with a clearance rate of 68% and some good prices. We firmly beleive that this sale has a big future, and we look forward to following our graduates on the track as they fly the flag for the July Store Sale.”

Selling for tomorrow's one-day August National Hunt Sale starts at 10.00am.

Record Price/Clearance at Tattersalls Ireland May Store Sale

The twice-rescheduled Tattersalls Ireland May Store Sale ended on Tuesday with a new record price of €115,000 and a new record clearance rate of 78%. Of the 211 lots offered, 164 sold. The gross was €2,851,200. The average and the median each posted double-digit increases-€17,385 for the average (+43%) and €15,000 for the median (+67%).

A gelded son of Blue Bresil (Fr), offered by Rathbarry Stud, caught the eye of bloodstock agent Aiden Murphy. Lot 121B, a half-brother to Welsh Grand National H. Chase runner-up The Two Amigos (GB) (Midnight Legend {GB}), counts Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Line As (Fr) (Cadoudal {Fr}) as his second dam.

“He is the one I really wanted today,” said Murphy, the day's leading purchaser. “He is a lovely horse and has a pedigree. He is a great advertisement for the sire, he goes to Olly [Murphy] and is for Diana and Grahame Whateley.”

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said, “Only in its fourth year, the May Store Sale has already become recognised as a leading source of winners and today's impressive set of figures have confirmed its importance within the store sale calendar. Although delayed until August for a second year in a row, this year's sale has produced an excellent trade that surpasses pre-COVID times and has achieved a record clearance rate.

We extend our thanks to our vendors who remained patient throughout the disruption to the sales calendar and provided quality stores as well as every purchaser who engaged as they sought to find their next May Store Sale winner. We were delighted to welcome UK buyers back to Fairyhouse following the easing of travel restrictions into Ireland.”
