‘Rising Star’ Rounds Out Deep Impact Double In Tokyo

Less than an hour after Profondo (Aus) stamped his authority on the G1 Spring Champion S. at Randwick at just his third career start, 'TDN Rising Star' Command Line (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) followed suit in the G3 Saudi Arabia Royal Cup (1600mT) at Tokyo Racecourse in his second trip to the races and first appearance graduating stylishly over the course and distance June 5.

Sent off the marginal favorite in advance of Sternatia (Jpn) (Lord Kanaloa {Jpn}), a half-sister to Group 1-winning miler Stelvio (Jpn), the athletic colt was allowed to find his feet beneath Christophe Lemaire and settled in fifth position of the seven runners, but noting that longshot Lord Reliable (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}) was galloping them along at a walking pace, the Frenchman slipped Command Line a bit of rein and the duo advanced be second through an opening half-mile in :50 flat. Settled nicely in spite of the moderate tempo for the run around the turn, Command Line was held together into the long straight, was felt for with a bit more than 300 metres to travel and outsprinted Sternatia to the line, then galloped out powerfully. Stunning Rose (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}) made it a clean sweep for the Sunday Racing colours and breeder Northern Farm.

Pedigree Notes:

While Profondo was becoming the 52nd top-level scorer for Deep Impact in Sydney, Command Line took the late sire's tally to 178 black-type winners and 144 graded/group winners.

A $72,000 purchase by Kim Valerio and Michael Dubb at Keeneland September in 2013, Condo Commando, the 'splash-tastic' winner of the 2014 GI Spinaway S., is a daughter of MGSW Yearly Report who is also the dam of MGSP Checklist (Gone West). Command Line is the third foal from Condo Commando, who was acquired by Katsumi Yoshida for $1.5 million at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. Unsurprisingly, the mare's first cover was the legendary Shadai stallion and the result was Al Jannah (Jpn), who fetched nearly $1.5 million as a foal at the 2017 JRHA Select Sale and who has since placed four times at group level. The 3-year-old full-sister, Torre de Mando (Jpn), is a maiden winner from seven runs and Condo Commando is the dam of a yearling filly by Heart's Cry (Jpn) and a weanling Lord Kanaloa (Jpn) filly that was hammered down for $761,188 at this year's foal sale.

Newspaperofrecord’s Dam to Sell at The Tattersalls December Mares Sale

Group 3 winner Sunday Times (GB) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}–Forever Times {GB}, by So Factual), the dam of GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf heroine Newspaperofrecord (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}), will be offered at the upcoming Tattersalls December Mares Sale from Nov. 29-Dec. 2. Carrying a full-sibling to the GI Just a Game heroine, Sunday Times will be consigned by Richard and Sally Aston's Goldford Stud on behalf of Allan Belshaw.

A winner of the G3 Sceptre S. and second in the G1 Cheveley Park S., Sunday Times will be joined by her fourth foal in the Goldford Stud consignment at Tattersalls, the winning Daily Times (GB) (Gleneagles {Ire}), who is also in foal to Lope de Vega (Ire).

“Sunday Times is a truly outstanding broodmare with a great future,” said Richard Aston. “She was a very smart race filly, she has produced a champion 2-year-old, she has a current Classic pedigree which will appeal to breeders from all over the world and she is gorgeous. It is a rare combination and Mr. Belshaw will be racing Newspaperofrecord's yearling own sister and this year's Kingman (GB) filly foal which is why he has decided to sell both Sunday Times and Daily Times.”

A half-sister to the dam of Group 1 winner Latrobe (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), stakes winner and multiple Group 1-placed Pink Dogwood (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) and group winner Diamond Fields (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), Sunday Times's first foal was the listed winner Classical Times (GB) (Lawman {Fr}), who was also third in the G3 Chipchase S., while Newspaperofrecord was her third. The latter, who sold for 200,000gns out of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, also won the GII Miss Grillo S., GIII Intercontinental S., and was third in the GI First Lady S. for owner Klaravich Stables and trainer Chad Brown. The latest produce for Sunday Times is a yearling full-sister to Newspaperofrecord and a weanling filly foal by Kingman (GB).

After Newspaperofrecord's Breeders' Cup victory, Brown said, “Today she showed how good she really is and for her to win as easy as she did is remarkable.”

TDN columnist Bill Finley wrote that, “her performance might well be regarded as one of the best in the history of the series.”

Frankel’s Inspiral Remains Perfect After Fillies’ Mile Triumph

Cheveley Park Stud's undefeated 2-year-old filly Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), whose run of three straight successes included impressive wide-margin tallies in Sandown's Listed Star S. and Doncaster's G2 Park Hill S., entered winter quarters at the forefront of the juvenile fillies' division after posting another taking score in Friday's G1 bet365 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket. In so doing, she emulated 2017 scorer Laurens (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), who also picked up Doncaster's Park Hill en route to victory in this straight test. Inspiral had earlier overcome a slow start to debut with a 1 1/2-length score at Newmarket in June and was one of just two ploughing a furrow down the centre of the course and raced in the slipstream of Cachet (Ire) (Aclaim {Ire}) through halfway. Making smooth headway into contention passing the three-furlong pole, the 8-11 favourite launched her challenge at the quarter-mile marker and was pushed out up the hill to comfortably assert superiority for a career high. Park Hill runner-up Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) was best of the rest, finishing 2 1/2 lengths adrift of the winner and a neck ahead of the keeping-on Cachet in third.
