Satish Seemar Temporarily Suspended By ERA

Trainer Satish Seemar has had his license temporarily suspended by the Emirates Racing Authority Stewards due to circumstances surrounding his association with owner Ramzan Kadyrov.

Kadyrov, the Head of the Chechen Republic, was added to the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office Of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)'s list for his record of serious human rights abuses in 2017. Seemar, who trained the 2018 G1 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 victor North America (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) for Kadyrov, was put on the list due to his connection with Kadyrov on Dec. 10, 2020.

“The status of Mr. Seemar's license will be reviewed by the ERA upon the resolution of his status with the United States Government,” the ERA said in a statement.

Seemar's string based out of Zabeel Stables will in the meantime be handled by his assistant, Bhupat Seemar.

“I have been informed by the Emirates Racing Authority that they are suspending my license temporarily, with immediate effect,” Seemar said in statement. “This is due to one of my former clients [Kadyrov] being included on the United States OFAC list. I have been placed on the list due to training the horse.

“The horse in question, North America, is no longer in training at Zabeel Racing Stables, and has been exported from the UAE. My case has been submitted to lawyers in Washington DC and I am confident my name will be removed from the list in the near future.

“Bhupat Seemar will be holding the license until further notice and he and the excellent team at Zabeel Stables will endeavor to uphold the high standards we have maintained throughout the past 30 years.”

OFAC said of Seemar at the time of his designation, that he “has materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial material, or technological support for, or goods and services to or in support of, Kadyrov.”

A Case Of You Bound For Winter Quarters

Group 1 winner A Case Of You (Ire) (Hot Streak {Ire}) will be freshened with an eye to a 2022 campaign trainer Ado McGuinness has revealed. The Gary Devlin colourbearer opened his 2021 season with a win over the all-weather at Dundalk in March and added the G3 Lacken S. to his haul at Naas on May 16 two starts later. Given some time off after an unplaced run in the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, he was third in the G3 Phoenix Sprint S. at The Curragh on Aug. 8 and went one better there in the G1 Flying Five S. on Sept. 12. A narrow winner of the Oct. 3 G1 Prix de l'Abbaye in France, he ran with credit to take fifth in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar on Nov. 6 and was originally pointing to the G1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin on Dec. 12.

McGuinness said, “He's all good and I was delighted with his run at the Breeders' Cup. He finished very strongly and I think he'll have learnt a lot from running at Del Mar, definitely.

“We were going to go to Hong Kong, but it would be his third run out of the country in three months and with the travelling and everything, we've decided to put him away and mind him. We want him for next season and there's a lot to look forward to.”

“We could look at Dubai before bringing him back for races like the [G1] King's Stand at Royal Ascot,” McGuinness added. “We'll definitely look at the Flying Five at the backend, hopefully the Abbaye again and then if he's safe and sound, the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland–I wouldn't be afraid to go back with him. When you have a horse as good as him and we're able to showcase him around the world, that's what we'll do.”

Pair of Dark Angel Colts Added to Tattersalls December

A pair of colts by Dark Angel (Ire) have been added to the upcoming Tattersalls December Foal Sale as wildcards. The duo, consigned by Barton Stud, will sell on Nov. 26.

Lot 999A is out of the winning mare Nawassi (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), herself a daughter of G2 Queen Mary S. heroine Maqaasid (GB) (Green Desert). Maqaasid also placed in the G1 1000 Guineas and G1 Cheveley Park S. and is a sister to Group 1 producers Istishaary (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Jumooh (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). Istishaary's Il Fornaio (Arg) (Orpen) won a Group 1 in Argentina, while Jumooh's Shraaoh (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) captured the G1 Sydney Cup. This is also the family of Classic heroine Ghanaati (Giant's Causeway).

Out of Shurooq (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) who is a daughter of dual Group 1 winner and Classic heroine Natagora (Fr) (Divine Light {Jpn}), lot 999B is from the same family as G3 Sweet Solera S. winner Tajaanus (Ire) (Arcano {Ire}) and the Group 3-placed Motafaawit (Ire) (Intikhab).

Spread over four days from Nov. 24-27, a total of 1,072 foals are slated to sell at Park Paddocks during the sale.

Kodiac Leads Tally-Ho Roster

Kodiac (GB) (Danehill) leads the seven-strong roster at Tally-Ho Stud at an unchanged fee of €65,000 in 2022. Responsible for 13 black-type winners in 2021, the 20-year-old's progeny enjoyed Group 1 success with G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero El Bodegon (Ire) and G1 Commonwealth Cup heroine Campanelle (Ire). Also among his group winners this term are Cloudy Dawn (Ire), American Bridge (GB), Bear Story (Ire), Glounthaune (Ire) and Fast Attack (Ire).

Priced at €50,000, Mehmas (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), who was the Champion First-Season Sire in Europe in 2022, celebrated 11 black-type winners and is firmly on top of the European Second-Season Sire list. The sire of his second overall Group 1 winner in 2021 GI Del Mar Oaks heroine Going Global (Ire), he stood for €25,000 this year. Four of his seven 2021 group winners were from his second crop of juveniles headed by dual Group 2 winner Lusail (Ire), G2 Flying Childers S. victor Caturra (Ire), and G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte heroine Malavath (Ire), who also ran second in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Acklam Express (Ire) and Minzaal (Ire), from his first crop, were also Group 1 placed in Dubai and in the G1 British Champions Sprint S., respectively.

Previously announced as a new addition to the roster, Group 1 winner Starman (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) will command €17,500. The G1 July Cup hero also placed in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest and G1 Sprint Cup.

A pair of Tally-Ho stallions will have their first crop of 3-year-olds in 2022 in Cotai Glory (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) at €8,500 and Galileo Gold (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) at €7,000. The former's best runner to date has been G2 Prix Robert Papin and G3 Prix du Bois scorer Atomic Force (Ire), while Purciaretta (Ire) landed a listed race. Eldrickjones (Ire) ran second in the G2 Coventry S. and Pearl Glory (Ire) was runner-up in the G3 Dick Poole S. G1 Phoenix S. hero Ebro River (Ire) is one of three black-type winners for Galileo Gold, who is also the sire of Group 3 winner Oscula (Ire), third in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac, and Listed Empress S. heroine System (Ire).

Completing the roster are the duo of Inns of Court (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Kessaar (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), who will both stand for €5,000. Successful four times at group level and dual Group 1 placed, Inns of Court's first foals are selling at the breeding stock sales beginning this month. Kessaar, the winner of the G2 Mill Reef S. and G3 Sirenia S., will have his first runners in 2022.
