Showcasing’s Dramatised A New TDN Rising Star

Clipper Logistics' 2-year-old filly Dramatised (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}) went postward as the 9-4 favourite for Friday's My Odds Boost On Betfair British EBF Maiden Fillies' S. at Newmarket and dominated the five-furlong dash with an explosive performance to earn TDN Rising Stardom. The April-foaled bay tanked forward from the break to seize control after the initial strides. Last to come off the bridle inside the two pole, she was not for catching once shaken up at the foot of the hill and powered clear inside the final furlong to prevail by an impressive four lengths from Malrescia (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}).

“She's been showing plenty at home and the 2-year-olds have set off really well,” said trainer Karl Burke. “She'd be the head of the pile of the fillies that have been winning, so we knew we had a good horse and it was just a question of keeping a lid on her really. I actually thought that she'd jump a bit sharper than she did and she's very fast once she's into her stride. We trained her mother, who won the [Listed] Empress S., and she was the same in that she had a little bit of an edge to her, but a lot of talent. The obvious race to look at next is the [Listed] Marygate at York, but I'm not sure that's the right place for her on just her second run with the walk-across the open spaces there. We've probably got other fillies for that race, but we'll discuss it with the owners. I'd say the [G2] Queen Mary [at Royal Ascot] is the race for her. We've got some nice fillies.”

Dramatised, half-sister to a yearling filly by Night of Thunder (Ire) is the third of four foals and first scorer produced by stakes-winning G3 Prix du Calvados third Katie's Diamond (Fr) (Turtle Bowl {Ire}), herself a half-sister to the dam of stakes-winning GIII Jimmy Durante S. placegetter Quattroelle (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}).

Newmarket’s 1000 Guineas Attracts Field of 14

Friday saw the confirmations for Sunday's G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, where the Westerberg silks will be prominent again via Ballydoyle's unbeaten G1 Cheveley Park S. heroine Tenebrism (Caravaggio). Representing the powerful combination including Coolmore and Merriebelle Stables, the 'TDN Rising Star' will break from stall five under Ryan Moore alongside her Frankie Dettori-ridden stablemate Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in four. Close by is the Niarchos family's G1 Moyglare Stud S. winner Discoveries (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) in six, next to Everest Racing, Barbara Keller and David Redvers' G3 Prix Imprudence scorer Malavath (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) in seven as the main contenders are clustered together by fate.

The Fabre Factor

Tom Marquand has built up a rapport with Al Wasmiyah Racing and has been granted the opportunity to ride the operation's G1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Zellie (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), who has 1 1/2 lengths to make up on Malavath from the Imprudence. Surprisingly, Andre Fabre has only sent three fillies over for this Classic despite his much-vocalised love for the Suffolk venue and the legions of potential contenders he has had through his hands. The last two were Intercontinental (GB) (Danehill), who was third in one of the finest editions of recent years in 2003, and the 2014 winner Miss France (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), so Zellie coming to a Classic that has been kind to France down the years is a big deal.

“It is a huge opportunity to be able to team up with her,” Marquand said. “The only worry is that her Group 1 win was on heavy ground and it definitely won't be that at the weekend, but it's a pretty open-looking Guineas.”

Varian's Dark Horse Gaining Momentum

Roger Varian has Eydon in the 2000 and another lightly-raced unexposed one in the fillies' version in Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum's Ameynah (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), who comes here via a seven-furlong maiden at the Craven meeting. From the family of Embassy (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}) and Tarfshi (GB) (Mtoto {GB}), she has crept into sight with the high-profile defections of the Frankel fillies Inspiral (GB) and Homeless Songs (Ire) and now rates as a contender in a renewal that is hard to pin down.

“A week or so ago, the Guineas was not even on our mind but in the last seven to 10 days she has made it hard for it not to be,” her trainer explained on Friday. “She is in tremendous form and worked very well at the weekend. On Sunday evening, we'll know whether or not we were right to take the plunge.”

Absolute Notions Tops The Goffs Punchestown Sale

Sporting a 90% clearances rate with 18 of the 20 lots through the ring finding new homes, the Goffs Punchestown Sale was topped by Absolute Notions (Ire) (Milan {GB}) (lot 21). Offered by Gordon Elliot's Cullentra House Stables, the 4-year-old bay gelding attracted a winning bid of €370,000 from Mags O'Toole. A winner of his only start, a National Hunt bumper at Punchestown on Tuesday, Absolute Notions is from the same family as Grade 1-winning hurdler Chief Dan George (Ire) (Lord Americo {Ire}), as well as G2 Martell Cup Chase victor MacGeorge (Ire) (Mandalus {Ire}).

Jenny Wyse (Ire) (Flemensfirth) (lot 14) drew the attention of Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls, and they duly shelled out €360,000 for the winning point-to-pointer. From the draft of Colin Bowe's Milestone Stables, the 4-year-old filly captured a point-to-point at Monksgrange on Apr. 24. Her unraced dam is a full-sister to Grade 3 winner Morning Run (Ire) (King's Theatre {Ire}), as well as a half-sister to the listed hurdler Morning Supreme (Ire) (Supreme Leader {GB}).

Rounding out the top three lots was The Gooner (Ire) (Flemensfirth) (lot 6). Consigned by Matthew Flynn O'Connor's Ballycrystal Stables, the 4-year-old gelding was knocked down to Jonjo O'Neill for €280,000. The Gooner won a three-mile point-to-point at Curraghmore earlier in April.

At the close of the sale, the 18 lots grossed €2,885,000. The average was €160,278 and the median was €135,000. An even dozen were sold for six figures.
