Royal-Oak The Feature On Sunday

ParisLongchamp stages its penultimate autumnal farewell on Sunday, with the G1 Prix Royal-Oak the last pattern race to be staged at the prestigious Bois de Boulogne venue which draws its curtains on Thursday. There is no stand-out this year and the main protagonists are a notch or two below the likes of Vazirabad (Fr) (Manduro {Ger}), Subjectivist (GB) (Teofilo {Ire} or even the sadly-lost 2021 hero Scope (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}), but there is Bertrand Milliere's popular Iresine (Fr) by Vazirabad's sire whose three runs here include wins in last year's G3 La Coupe and the G2 Prix Foy when last seen Sept. 11. The mount of Marie Velon, the Jean-Pierre Gauvin-trained bay is moving markedly up in trip but looks the type to relish the extra distance.

While Nick Bradley Racing's Oct. 1 G2 Prix Chaudenay scorer Al Qareem (Ire) (Awtaad {Ire}) looks to be the leading 3-year-old and the accomplished Irish mares Search For A Song (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Princess Zoe (Ger) (Jukebox Jury {Ire}) would be emotive winners, there is the sense that another Longchamp lover Jannah Flower (Ire) (Olympic Glory {Ire}) is the key player. Al Shira'aa Farms' May 12 Listed Prix Gold River winner boasts two wins and three seconds from five starts at this track, with her latest efforts suggesting she is the class act in this line-up. Given too much to do on both occasions when second to Quickthorn (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) in the G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil July 14 and to Sea La Rosa (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) in the Oct. 1 G1 Prix de Royallieu over 14 furlongs, the Pascal Bary-trained bay has a killer kick if Stephane Pasquier can get his fractions right.

Galileo’s Kyprios Another Ballydoyle Star At Navan

Navan's Saturday card belonged to Ballydoyle and Kyprios (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) was a key component of the stable's five-timer when taking the Listed Vintage Crop S. Entering this G1 Gold Cup pointer something of an unknown quantity, having been absent since being withdrawn from Royal Ascot's G2 Queen's Vase in June when getting upset in the stalls, he had previously been successful in a 10-furlong Cork conditions race in April and fourth in the Listed Lingfield Derby Trial in May. Returning with a vengeance to inflict a heavy defeat on his full-sister and fellow Moyglare representative Search For a Song (Ire) and the smart Baron Samedi (GB) (Harbour Watch {Ire}), the chestnut set out on the road to the Royal meeting's marathon feature June 16. Always travelling easily tracking the leader, he was committed three out and when his dual Irish St Leger-winning full-sibling came to him soon after he knuckled down and drew clear for an impressive success.

Aidan O'Brien, who was completing a black-type treble on the card, commented, “We always thought he was going to be very nice. He went to Ascot last year and jumped out under the stalls and he hasn't run since then. He looks like a stayer with a bit of class, he relished that trip. He relaxes and he quickens. If we are going to Ascot, we could have a look at the [G3] Saval Beg [at Leopardstown May 13]. We might not travel him before Ascot, but we will see.”

Kyprios is Moyglare royalty, being the last known foal out of the stellar producer Polished Gem, whose other seven black-type winners other than Search For a Song include the G1 Prince of Wales's S.-winning sire Free Eagle (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}), the seven-times group scorer Custom Cut (Ire) (Nonowcato {GB}) and the G2 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares S. winner Sapphire (Ire) (Medicean {GB}). Polished Gem, whose two other black-type winners by Galileo are Amma Grace (Ire) and Falcon Eight (Ire), is a full-sister to the GI Matriarch S. heroine Dress To Thrill (Ire) with both being out of the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Trusted Partner (Affirmed), who is also the third dam of the G1 Vincent O'Brien National S. hero Thunder Moon (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}).

Strong Euro Presence as DWCC Invitees Announced

A host of international Group or Grade 1 winners have been extended invites to the upcoming Dubai World Cup Carnival, including Lord Glitters (Fr) (Whipper), who enjoyed a pair of group victories during last year's event. The popular grey gelding captured the G1 Jebel Hatta and more recently added the G3 Bahrain International Trophy to his haul from the David O'Meara yard, who has also received an invite for Escobar (Ire) (Famous Name {GB}).

A strong Irish challenge will be led by dual G1 Irish St Leger heroine Search For A Song (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) for trainer Dermot Weld, and Joseph O'Brien sends the pair of G1 Cox Plate scorer State Of Rest (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) and G1 National S. winner Thunder Moon (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}). Ado McGuinness is represented by G1 Prix de l'Abbaye winner A Case Of You (Ire) (Hot Streak {Ire}), as well as Group 2 winner Pierre Lapin (Ire) (Cappella Sansevero {GB}) and 10-time scorer Harry's Bar (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}).

Crack sprinter and G1 Sprint Cup S. victor Emaraaty Ana (GB) (Shamardal) represents Kevin Ryan. George Boughey has the option to send the progressive Group 3 winner and G1 Prix Marcel Boussac third Oscula (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}), while G1 Sun Chariot S. victress Saffron Beach (Ire) (New Bay {GB}) is one of four possible for Jane Chapple-Hyam.

William Haggas sends G1 Champion S. second Dubai Honour (Ire) (Pride Of Dubai {Aus}), besides G1 Juddmonte International runner-up Alenquer (Fr) (Adlerflug {Ger}) and Shadwell's Mohaafeth (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), who won the G3 Hampton Court S. at Royal Ascot. Another Shadwell runner invited to the DWCC is the Group 3 winner Hukum (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) for Owen Burrows.

American trainer Doug O'Neill is sending a string for the DWCC, and his Grade I winner Hot Rod Charlie (Oxbow) has punched his ticket, while 2020 G3 UAE Guineas winner Fore Left (Twirling Candy) also returns to Meydan.

Entries were also received from Sweden, Norway, Singapore, Greece, Turkey, Australia, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, as well as Carnival regulars France and Bahrain, bringing the total countries represented to 17. The Dubai World Cup Carnival runs from Jan. 13 to Super Saturday, Mar. 5. There is $7.5 million in prizemoney across eight weeks of racing, and the $30.5 million Dubai World Cup meeting will be held on Mar. 26. Please click here to view the full list of invitees.

“We are delighted to have such high-class entries from so many different countries for the 2022 running of the Dubai World Cup Carnival,” said Stephanie Cooley, International Liaison for Dubai Racing Club. “It will be fantastic to welcome back some real crowd favourites in Lord Glitters, Equilateral and

Fore Left, while Hot Rod Charlie was a star of the 3-year-old division in the States last year and it will be fascinating to see him develop as a 4-year-old.

“It will also be superb to see some countries back at the Carnival after missing a few years due to travel restrictions. We look forward to welcoming back runners from Australia and Singapore after a few years' absence.”

A Perfect Swan Song

Europe's penultimate group 1 prize takes place on Sunday and the 2021 running of ParisLongchamp's Prix Royal-Oak carries extra significance as the last of its kind to include the name Alain de Royer-Dupre. Soon set for an honourable retirement from the field he has mastered for so long, the doyen of Aiglemont has one more shot at the big time with last year's runner-up Valia (Fr) (Sea the Stars {Ire}). Seemingly prepped perfectly for her return tilt, The Aga Khan homebred has no Subjectivist (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}) to deal with this time and has already shown that she retains all her ability with a win in the 14-furlong G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil here July 14. Subsequently third in the 12 1/2-furlong G2 Prix de Pomone at Deauville Aug. 22 and in the G1 Prix de Royallieu back over a mile and three quarters at this venue Oct. 2, a return to winning ways at the right time would bring emotive scenes.

Moyglare Stud's dual G1 Irish St Leger heroine Search For a Song (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) was back to her best last time when issuing a 9 1/2-length beating to the G1 St Leger third The Mediterranean (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in The Curragh's G3 Loughbrown S. over two miles Sept. 26 and the lightly-raced 5-year-old may be Valia's greatest threat. “She's in very good form. We're hoping there isn't too much rain, but I don't think there has been and hopefully the ground won't be as bad as it was on Arc weekend,” Fiona Craig said. “The Aga Khan's filly could be tough to beat, but we're hoping she'll run well. When she was younger she used to like the ground fast and firm. I don't think she needs that now, she just doesn't need to be stuck in a bog.”

Three-year-olds have won five of the last nine renewals and Godolphin's June 16 G2 Queen's Vase scorer Kemari (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) has experience of this track having finished runner-up to stablemate Manobo (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) in the Oct. 2 G2 Prix Chaudenay over half a furlong shorter. “We have been pleased with how Kemari came out of the Prix Chaudenay, which was a step back in the right direction following his run [when last of eight in the Aug. 18 G2 Great Voltigeur S.] at York,” trainer Charlie Appleby said. “He has handled these conditions before and we are hoping he can make the first three in what looks a competitive event.”

Also in the mix is Le Haras de la Gousserie's Skazino (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}), who took the course-and-distance G3 Prix de Barbeville and G2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier in May and Deauville's G2 Prix Kergorlay Aug. 22 either side of a second to Valia in the Maurice de Nieuil. Perhaps overstretched when fourth in the 2 1/2-mile G1 Prix du Cadran here last time Oct. 2, he bids to cap a recent purple patch for connections while Julian Richmond-Watson's Oct. 1 Listed Noel Murless S. winner Scope (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) and Haras de Saint Pair's Aug. 29 G2 Grand Prix de Deauville scorer Glycon (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}) add intrigue to a competitive renewal.
