Santa Anita: Big ‘Cap Day Promises Huge Rainbow Pick 6 Pool With Mandatory Payout

With a mandatory payout in place, Santa Anita track officials project Saturday's total 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 Jackpot pool could exceed $6 million as the Arcadia, Calif., track will present a blockbuster 11-race card highlighted by the Grade 1, $400,000 Santa Anita Handicap.  Special early first post on Saturday is at 12 noon PT.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 will start with race six, which has an approximate post time of 2:45 p.m. PT.  In addition to the Santa Anita Handicap, three other graded stakes will be included in the Rainbow 6 sequence, with the Grade 2, $300,000 San Felipe, a key prep to the G1 Runhappy Santa Anita Derby on April 3, carded as race six.

The G2, $200,000 San Carlos, for older horses at seven furlongs, will go as Saturday's eighth race, the G1, $400,000 Frank E. Kilroe Mile (turf) has been carded as race nine and the 84th running of the Big 'Cap, for older horses at a mile and a quarter, has an assigned post time of 5 p.m. PT.

$460,345 In Jackpot Pool For Saturday’s Santa Anita Rainbow Pick 6

With no single ticket winner in Friday's 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 Jackpot at Santa Anita, there is a sizable carryover into Saturday of $460,345.  First post time for a nine-race card on Saturday at the Arcadia, Calif., track is at 12:30 p.m. PT and approximate post time for race four, the beginning of the Rainbow 6, is at 2:12 p.m. PT.

Saturday's feature, the $100,000 Pasadena Stakes, for 3-year-olds at one mile on turf, has been carded as race eight, with the John Sadler-trained Rock Your World installed as the 2-1 morning line favorite with Umberto Rispoli up.

With $154,774 in new money and a carryover from Sunday of $424,909, Friday's total Jackpot pool was $579,683.  Although there was no single ticket winner, there were 51 consolation tickets with all six winners on Friday, each worth $1,647.

$323,024 Payoff In Santa Anita Rainbow 6 Jackpot On New Year’s Eve Card

New Year's Eve at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., finished with a bang, as the track's popular 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick 6 Jackpot was hit for $323,024 as 14-1 longshot Sir Oliver reported home on top by 2 ¾ lengths under Tyler Baze.

Purchased for 20 cents through the Maryland-based Hunt Valley wagering hub, the winning numbers and payoffs on races four through nine were as follows:  R4, (8) $24.80; R5, (5) $31.00; R6, (1) $3.20; R7, (4) $8.20, R8, (3) $10.20 and R9, (10) $30.00.

With a Jackpot carryover from Sunday of $167,262, there was $204,142 in new money wagered Thursday, creating a total Rainbow 6 Jackpot pool of $371,404.

Today's ninth and final race, a $61,000 maiden special weight at 6 ½ furlongs on turf, attracted a field of 11 three year olds and up and Sir Oliver was the only “live” horse in the Jackpot.  A first-time starter owned by Endeavor Farm, he provided trainer Mike Puype a double on the day and gave Baze a sweep of the late Daily Double.

Racing resumes with a nine-race card on New Year's Day, Friday, at Santa Anita, with first post time at 12:30 p.m.
