Santa Anita: Mandatory Payout In Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Features Cal Cup Races, Large Fields

With the possibility of a $4 million total pool, Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., will offer players a mandatory payout in Saturday's 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 Jackpot, which will be comprised of races five through 10.  With a Rainbow 6 carryover from Sunday into Friday of $391,923, the anticipated jackpot carryover into Saturday should be approximately $450,000, providing there is no single ticket winner on Friday.

Saturday is also California Cup Day at Santa Anita and a total of 56 horses have been entered to run in the Rainbow 6 sequence, races five through 10, making average field size 9.3 runners per race.

With a 10-race card on tap, there will be special early first post time of 12 noon and approximate post time for race five, is at 2:05 p.m. PT/5:05 p.m. ET.

Race five is a maiden $50,000 claimer for California-bred or sired 3-year-olds at six furlongs.  With a purse of $39,000, the race attracted a field of eight.

Four out of the five Cal Cup Day races are included in Saturday's Rainbow 6, beginning with the $200,000 Unusual Heat Turf Classic presented by City Bank, which has been carded as race six.  A field of eight older horses will go a mile and one eighth on turf.

Race seven, a $69,000 first condition allowance for older California-bred or sired horses at six furlongs, has also drawn a field of eight.

Race eight, the $150,000 Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf Sprint, for older fillies and mares at about 6 ½ furlongs down the hillside turf course, has attracted a full field of 12, with one horse on the also eligible list.

Race nine, the $150,000 Don Valpredo Cal Cup Sprint, will showcase a field of eight older horses at six furlongs.

Saturday's 10th race, the $200,000 Leigh Ann Howard Cal Cup Oaks, has a field of 12 sophomore fillies at one mile on turf.

Admission gates will open early Saturday at 10 a.m. and Santa Anita's spacious Infield Area will be open via Gate 6 off of Colorado Place on the track's northern perimeter.

With the middle jewel in racing's Triple Crown, the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes on Saturday, there will be  a mandatory payout in  Santa Anita's popular 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 Jackpot the following day, Sunday, May 16.

Providing there is no Single Ticket Rainbow Six winner on Saturday, track officials project Sunday's total Rainbow Pick 6 pool could approach $4 million.  As an additional enticement to players, 1/ST BET, the official app of Santa Anita Park, is offering players a free wager, up to $10, on Sunday's Rainbow Pick Six.

In order to be eligible, players are asked to download the 1/ST BET app and to place a wager on Sunday's Rainbow Six, and the first $10 will be on the house.

With entries taken on Thursday for a nine-race card Sunday, first post time is at 1:00 p.m., the Rainbow Six will begin with Sunday's fourth race, which has an approximate post time of 2:30 p.m. PT.

Although there is still no walk-up admission, Santa Anita is now open to the public on a limited basis by visiting santaanita.com.

For those not attending in-person, all of Santa Anita's races are available free of charge at santaanita.com/live and fans can watch and wager via several ADW platforms, including 1ST.com/bet.

Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payout Set For Santa Anita Derby Day April 3

With a tremendous 12-race card in prospect and the 84th running of the Grade 1, $750,000 Runhappy Santa Anita Derby headlining a total of six stakes on Saturday, there is a mandatory payout and thus the possibility of a 20 cent Rainbow Pick 6 pool of $5 million according to track officials in Arcadia, Calif.

With the Runhappy Santa Anita Derby carded as race eight, it will be leg two in the Rainbow 6 and be broadcast live on NBCSN and on Fox Sports, with approximate post time set at 4:15 p.m. PT.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 will start with race seven, with post time projected for 3:45 p.m. PT.

In addition to the Runhappy Santa Anita Derby, Saturday's blockbuster program will include the G2, $400,000 Sant Anita Oaks, the G2, $200,000 Royal Heroine, the G3, $100,000 Providencia, the $150,000 Evening Jewel, and the $150,000 Echo Eddie.

Entries for Saturday's races will be taken Wednesday morning and will be available at santaanita.com later in the afternoon.

Beginning this Friday, Santa Anita is reopening to the General Public on a limited basis.  Fans are encouraged to visit santaanita.com/open beginning at 10 a.m. PT Monday to obtain reserve seating.

Due to state and local COVID guidelines, there will be no walk-up admission and all attendees must pre-register for proof of reserved seating.  All admission as well as food and beverage transactions are required to be contactless, with no cash accepted.
