Santa Anita’s Opening Day Wagering Menu To Include Special 50-Cent Mid-Pick 4

With an 11-race card highlighted by six graded stakes, including three Grade 1 events, Santa Anita's traditional Winter/Spring Meet opening day this Sunday, Dec. 26, will offer players a treasure trove of betting opportunities including the popular 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick Six Jackpot. Santa Anita's comprehensive betting menu will include a special Opening Day Mid-Pick 4, a 50 cent bet offered on races 5, 6, 7 & 8, as well as a wide variety of other wagers, including a North American-low takeout of 15.43 percent on all $2 Win, Place and Show wagers.

In addition to the Opening Day Mid-Pick 4, Santa Anita will again offer the 50 cent Early Pick 5, which features a low 14 percent takeout, as well as the 50 cent Late Pick 5.

With the Jackpot provision in place, the 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick Six requires a perfect single ticket in order to key a potentially life changing payoff. Providing there is no single ticket winner, consolation tickets with the highest number of winners receive a payoff on 70 percent of the net pool. The remaining 30 percent is carried over to a Jackpot pool, which will continue to accrue until there is a single ticket winner or there is a designated mandatory payoff day.

The $1 Stronach Five will again be offered each Friday and will consist of a fast paced series of five races from Santa Anita, Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park and Golden Gate Fields. The Stronach Five offers players a low takeout of 12 percent.

Santa Anita will also continue to offer the $5 Golden Hour Double, and the $1 Golden Hour Pick 4. Both wagers embrace late races at both Santa Anita and Golden Gate Fields.

On most race days, there will be an Early and Late 50 cent Pick Four. On opening day, and all other days on which 11 races are carded, there will also be a 50 cent Mid-Pick Four. With 11 races on opening day, this Saturday, the Early Pick 4 will start with Race 2, the Mid-Four with Race 5 and the Late Pick Four will start with Race 8.

Players will also once again be offered one dollar exactas, two dollar rolling Daily Doubles, 50 cent rolling Pick 3s, as well as 10 cent Superfectas on all races with a minimum of six runners.

Additionally, the One Dollar Super High 5 is again available in all races with seven or more declared starters. The wager is available on all races that have seven or more declared starters. There is a 100 percent payout on all tickets selecting five winners, no consolation and a 100 percent carryover to the next race (including to the next day, if applicable).

Santa Anita Park estimates paying out over $18 million on Opening Day, based on historical pari-mutuel handle numbers.

Players that use the wagering app 1/ST BET or Xpressbet will get a bonus $10,000 in *splits:

* For instance, a “split” on a $5,000 prize pool will be evenly distributed among all players making winning bets. If four winning players are to share the split, each would receive $1,250.

–A $2,000 split on the Early Pick 5

–A $3,000 split on the Late Pick 5

–a $5,000 split on the Late Pick 4

Santa Anita: $7,500 Online ‘Showvivor’ Contest Back For Opening Day

Santa Anita's popular free online “Showvivor” will again be available to players everywhere beginning Opening Day, Sunday, Dec. 26. In addition to its existing season-long total prize money of $7,500, this year's Showvivor will also be complemented by another free online contest titled Santa Anita Pick 'Em, which offers $20,000 in prize money.

To sign up and for additional details regarding Santa Anita Pick 'Em, please visit santaanita.com/pickem

With special early first post time for an 11-race card on Opening Day at 11 a.m., fans are encouraged to register to play at showvivor.santaanita.com prior to first post time. The contest offers players a variety of cash incentives, highlighted by the $2,500 top prize, which will be awarded to the longest “Show Streak” over the course of the entire Winter/Spring Meet which concludes on June 19.

Players can select one horse from one race each racing day. That horse must run no worse than third in order for the player to “Showvive.” If the player's selection fails to run 1-2-3, that individual is not totally eliminated, as he or she may start up a new streak the next racing day. The player with the longest Show Streak on June 19 will be declared the top prize winner of $2,500.

Fans are advised the longest Show Streak is just one of five separate ways to win beginning Dec. 26.

SHOW STREAK The player that has the longest “show” of no-worse than third place finish streak at the end of the Winter/Spring Meet will win the Grand Prize of $2,500. If a player fails to make an online selection on a given race day, their streak is still alive, but they will not be given credit for any days missed.

WIN STREAK This carries a $1,000 prize and is intended to reward players who have selected the most consecutive first place finishers. If a player fails to make a selection on a given day, his or her streak may continue, but the player will not receive credit for any days missed.

TOTAL WINS On closing day, June 19, the player that has selected the most total wins will receive a $500 prize.

HIGHEST SINGLE WIN PAYOUT This carries a $500 prize and will be awarded to the player wit the single highest win payout (on a Two Dollar wager) over the course of the entire meet.

TOTAL WIN EARNINGS This is a Showvivor category which also carries a $500 prize and is awarded to the player that accumulates the highest total dollar amount-won based on their selections at the end of the meet. For example, each time an entrant's selection finishes in first place in the official standings (Wins), the dollar amount, based on Santa Anita's official Two Dollar Win payout, will be added to that player's total money-won to date. The winner will be determined on closing day.

MONTHLY CONTEST, NEW WAY TO WIN Separated into five different date ranges, beginning Dec. 26 through Jan. 31, and ending June 4 through June 19, the winner, by Total Monthly win Earnings, of each of these individual calendar periods earns an entry into the next $500 Live Money Handicapping Contest via Xpressbet and thus an opportunity to compete for more cash and prizes. No exchanges are offered.

Entries for Opening Day, Sunday, Dec. 26, are now available at santaanita.com. For additional information on ShowVivor, please visit santaanita.com or call (626) 574-RACE.

Hot Rod Charlie Goes Without Blinkers In San Antonio

Hot Rod Charlie, who wore blinkers while finishing fourth in pursuit of victorious front-running favorite Knicks Go in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar Nov. 6, will race without them in Sunday's Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes, a major steppingstone to the G1 Santa Anita Handicap on March 5.

“He was a bit erratic down the lane in two races before the Classic so we figured the blinkers on would be beneficial in the Breeders' Cup, but we're removing them for the San Antonio and I think we'll know more after the race,” trainer Doug O'Neill said.

“His two races prior to the Breeders' Cup Classic resulted in wins with the blinkers off,” continued O'Neill, referring to the Haskell at Monmouth July 17 and the Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Sept. 25, although he was disqualified to second in the Haskell.

A 3-year-old son of Oxbow owned by Boat Racing LLC, Gainesway Stable, Roadrunner Racing and William Strauss, the $110,000 purchase has earned more than 20 times that amount with $2,471,200, despite winning only three of his12 career starts.

“He's training well and we're excited about opening day,” said O'Neill, who has a busy Sunday with 11 scheduled starters.

“If that's not a one-day high for me, it's right up in there,” he said.

The field for the San Antonio, race six of 11 with an 11 a.m. first post time: Extra Hope, Tyler Baze, 20-1 ; Express Train, Victor Espinoza, 7-2; Go On, Mario Gutierrez, 20-1; Hot Rod Charlie, Flavien Prat, 6-5; Eight Rings, John Velazquez, 4-1; Kiss Today Goodbye, Kent Desormeaux, 5-1; and Azul Coast, Juan Hernandez, 5-1.
