Too Darn Hot’s Darnation Too Good In The Prestige

Newtown Anner Stud's homebred Darnation (Ire) (Too Darn Hot {GB}–Monday Monday {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}) improved off a debut third at Haydock to post an impressive 10-length tally over the same seven-furlong distance at Thirsk last month and made a smooth transition upped to pattern-race level with a game tally in Saturday's G3 William Hill Prestige Fillies' S. at Goodwood.

Positioned in a stalking second after a smart getaway, the 5-2 favourite fanned wide with the field off the home turn and kept on relentlessly under a drive inside the final quarter-mile to prevail by an ultimately comfortable two lengths from 11-4 market rival Carla's Way (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). Flight Plan (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) held every chance entering the final furlong and was outbobbed by a head for second.

Pedigree Notes

Darnation, half-sister to a yearling filly by Fastnet Rock (Aus), is the first of two foals produced by an unraced full-sister to dual Group-placed G2 Beresford S. third Exemplar (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The April-foaled homebred bay's dam is also a half-sister to G1 1000 Guineas, G1 Irish Oaks and G1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine Blue Bunting (Dynaformer). Descendants of her second dam Miarixa (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}), herself out of stakes-winning G1 Prix Saint-Alary third Mrs Arkada (Fr) (Akarad {Fr}), include dual stakes-winning GIII Intercontinental S. and GIII Franklin S. placegetter Star Devine (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) and G3 Earl of Sefton S. runner-up Poker Face (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}).

Got To Love A Grey Makes All In York’s Marygate

Karl Burke notched an exacta in last term's Listed Clipper EBF Marygate Fillies' S. at York and repeated the dose when once-raced winner Got To Love A Grey (GB) (Dark Angel {Ire}–Regatta {Fr}, by Layman) outlasted stablemate Dorothy Lawrence (GB) (Soldier's Call) in this year's renewal of the straight five-furlong dash.

Got To Love A Grey went postward as the 5-2 second choice,  coming back off a six-length tally at Nottingham last month, and broke sharply from the far-side stall to seize an immediate lead. Unflustered on the front end until shaken up at the quarter-mile marker, she was tackled by Dorothy Lawrence approaching the final furlong and kept on in resolute fashion to keep her perfect record intact. She held a half-length buffer at the line with the same margin back to Gaiden (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) in third.

Nathaniel Filly Yorkshire Oaks Bound After Hoppings Win

Friday's G3 Jenningsbet Hoppings Fillies S. at Newcastle represented one of the early skirmishes between the Classic generation and the older fillies and mares and it boiled down to a battle between two members of the former category with Poptronic (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) emerging on top of Rogue Millennium (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}). Pitched into this by Karl Burke on the back of a five-length novice success over nearly 11 furlongs at Ripon at the start of the month, David and Yvonne Blunt's homebred looked to be doing too much early with Sam James keen to restrain her behind the pace. Keeping enough in reserve for the pursuit of fellow 3-year-old Rogue Millennium in the straight, the 8-1 shot gained the advantage at the furlong pole and stayed on to score by a length.

Poptronic, who was also successful on Wolverhampton's Tapeta over an extended mile in late December, has a big date on her dance card now. “We talked about the Yorkshire Oaks at the Ebor meeting, so I would imagine that will be her target if she was good enough,” Burke said. “She obviously proved herself good enough today to have a go at it. They went pretty steady early, but we didn't really want to make it with her. She is a bit keen, but Sam said she looks a bit keener than she actually is. He said she wasn't too bad, but swings her head around a little bit. It was a great performance and she is obviously a filly on the up.”

The dam Alpine Dream (Ire) (Dream Ahead), a daughter of the G2 Lowther S. winner Infamous Angel (GB) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) connected to the G3 Hotham S. runner-up Mankayan (Ire) (Intello {Ger}). Her unraced 2-year-old filly is by Brazen Beau (Aus).
