Dabirsim’s Horizon Dore Is Different Class In The Eugene Adam

Impressive in the Listed Prix Ridgway at ParisLongchamp last month, having chased home Big Rock (Fr) (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}) in Chantilly's G3 Prix de Guiche, the Patrice Cottier-trained Horizon Dore (Fr) (Dabirsim {Fr}) showed what he is made of in Saturday's G2 Prix Eugene Adam at Saint-Cloud. Sitting off the early pace set by Knight To King (Ire) (Kingman {GB}), the even-money favourite who sports the Gousserie yellow-and-green brushed the Dermot Weld challenger aside with a 10.51 split from the two to the one and surged to an emphatic 2 1/2-length success from Maniatic (Ire) (Intello {Ger}).

Horizon Dore's first two starts in the autumn saw him win by a cumulative margin of 11 lengths, with the second seeing him beat the subsequent listed winner and triple group 3 runner-up Harry Way (Fr) (Galiway {GB}) by six with the eventual listed-placed Cambronne (Fr) (Alex The Winner)–a winner of this card's feature handicap–in third in Marseille-Borely's Listed Prix Delahante. Fifth to the subsequent G1 Prix du Jockey Club runner-up Big Rock in ParisLongchamp's G3 Prix la Force in April before getting closer in the Prix de Guiche, the bay whose ownership also includes Ecurie du Sud, Ecurie Gribomont, Daniel Dumoulin, François Delaunay, Chantal Becq as well as the Chehboub family's Yellow Agency, probably needs lively ground as he proved here and in the Ridgway.

Already gelded, Horizon Dore who was a bargain €45,000 buy at Arqana Deauville August could go the way of the Gousserie star Sealiway (Fr) (Galiway {GB}). “He's an easy horse to ride and has a big turn of foot,” Pauline Chehboub said. “We will travel with him, as he's a group one winner in the making who is versatile when it comes to trip. I think he'll improve again and we need to brainstorm with our associates, but we'll see about the Champion Stakes in October. He has huge potential.”

Pedigree Notes

Horizon Dore, who is kin to the G3 Prix du Calvados winner and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf third Cavale Doree (Fr) (Sunday Break {Jpn}), is the last foal out of Sweet Alabama (Fr) (Enrique {GB}) whose half-siblings include the multiple listed-placed Zayade (Fr) (Country Reel) and Winter Springs (Fr) (Stormy River {Fr}) who was second in the Delahante.

Quartet Of French Fillies’ Races To Be Sponsored By Darley

A race series for 3-year-old fillies in France will be sponsored by Darley, the organisation and France Galop announced on Tuesday.

Since discontinuing its sponsorship of the G1 Prix Morny, Darley has instead branched out into a quartet of fillies' races. The newly sponsored races are:

  • Listed Prix de Thiberville, ParisLongchamp on June 15
  • G3 Prix Chole, Chantilly on July 16
  • Listed Prix Joubert, ParisLongchamp on Sept. 7
  • Listed Prix Coronation, Saint-Cloud on Sept. 22.

Valuable race series in Great Britain and Ireland are also newly sponsored by Darley, it was announced earlier in the year.

Sam Bullard, Director of Stallions, said, “Following the expansion of Darley's sponsorships at grassroots level in Great Britain and Ireland, it was only natural to extend this support of racing to France. We have an exciting young roster of stallions standing at Haras du Logis and these new sponsorships further demonstrate Darley's support of French racing and breeding. We are delighted to be involved.”

Olivier Delloye, Chief Executive of France Galop, said, “France Galop is delighted to count once again on the support of Darley, a leading international partner, which confirm the quality of our races.”

Observations: Clash of the Rising Stars at Saint-Cloud

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Sunday's Insights features the return of TDN Rising Stars Ramatuelle (Justify) and Beauvatier (Fr) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) in a Saint-Cloud conditions event.

13.58 Saint-Cloud, Cond, €34,000, 2yo, 6fT
Christopher Head trainee RAMATUELLE (Justify) created a deep impression first time out when powering home by 4 1/2 lengths over five furlongs at Chantilly last month and the 'TDN Rising Star' makes her eagerly-awaited return upped in trip here. She encounters a trio of winners which includes fellow Rising Star Beauvatier (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), who made an equally taking debut when routing his rivals by 5 1/2 lengths and more over the same five-furlong strip at Chantilly earlier this month.

13.45 Curragh, Mdn, €20,000, 2yo, f, 6fT
Coolmore and Westerberg's well-related MATRIKA (IRE) (No Nay Never) faces eight rivals in this debut. She is a full-sister to the dual Group 3-winning G1 Takarazuka Kinen runner-up Unicorn Lion (Ire) and a half-sister to G1 Prix Morny-winning sire The Wow Signal (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). Opposition to the Aidan O'Brien trainee includes Moyglare Stud Farm's homebred September Leaves (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), who is out of a full-sister to multiple Group 1-winning dual Hong Kong champion Designs On Rome (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), from the Jessica Harrington stable; and $105,000 Keeneland September graduate Grand Job (Justify), who is kin to G3 UAE Oaks victrix Divine Image (Scat Daddy) and represents Joseph O'Brien.

Zarak’s Crown Princesse Wins The Cleopatre

Providing another boost to TDN Rising Star Pensee Du Jour (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), Haras de Saint-Julien and Regula Vannod's Crown Princesse (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}–Lovemedo {Fr}, by Zafeen {Fr}) stepped up on two prior efforts to capture Friday's G3 Prix Cleopatre at Saint-Cloud. Four-lengths second to that Fabre giant on debut over 9 1/2 furlongs on Chantilly's Polytrack in February, the Fabrice Chappet-trained homebred went back to the same track, trip and surface to break her maiden last month and entered this 10 1/2-furlong Prix de Diane pointer only as a lukewarm 11-1 shot.

Anchored with one behind early by Ioritz Mendizabal, the chestnut had to wait for room at the top of the straight as the eventual runner-up Elusive Princess (Fr) (Martinborough {Jpn}) ran into a dead end on the rail. In the open in time to get to the front approaching the furlong pole, she stayed on strongly to score by half a length from the unlucky second, with 3/4 of a length back to the long-time leader Heartache Tonight (Fr) (Recorder {GB}) in third.

“You can't really fault this filly since her debut when she was beaten by one with great potential, as she has since proven,” Chappet said. “We will enjoy that, see how she comes out of the race and take it day by day before deciding on her next race. She is not in the [G1 Prix] Saint-Alary, not in the Diane. We shall see.”

Pedigree Notes

Crown Princesse's dam Lovemedo, who was runner-up in the Listed Prix la Sorellina, is a half-sister to the Listed Prix de Bagatelle winner Mary's Precedent (Fr) (Storming Home {GB}) who produced another Sorellina runner-up in Mary's France (Fr) (Acclamation {GB}). The family features the G1 Prix
de l'Arc de Triomphe and G1 Prix du Jockey Club hero Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) and his half-sister, the multiple grade I-winning Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf heroine and champion Sistercharlie (Ire) (Myboycharlie {Ire}). Lovemedo's 2-year-old filly by Meshaheer is named Love Her (Fr).
