The Dermot Weld trainee has been allocated gate 15 for the one-mile feature. She will be reopposed by Moyglare runner-up and G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf heroine Meditate (Ire) (No Nay Never), Aidan O'Brien's lone representative, who is drawn in stall eight. Godolphin's trio of contenders includes Saeed bin Suroor trainee and 'TDN Rising Star' Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}), who makes her European return coming back from a successful two-race stint in Dubai. “We Have To Give Her A Chance” – Bin Suroor Bullish On Mawj For Guineas

Group 2 winner Mawj (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) is in good order ahead of an intended start in the May 7 G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas, according to Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor.

A winner of the G2 Duchess Of Cambridge S. and third in the G1 Cheveley Park S. at two, the bay won both the Jumeirah Fillies Classic and Jumeirah Fillies Guineas conditions races at Meydan over the winter.

Bin Suroor said, “She is good, has been working well and in good form. She will run in the Guineas. She is a nice filly and a proven filly. She has shown plenty of speed, but she stayed a mile well in Dubai and now we will give her a chance in the Guineas.

“It is a very tough race, but we have to give her a chance and see how she goes, as she has earned that chance. She has grown a little, but not much. That is why we gave her a break between races. Two-year-olds, when you give them a break, they generally grow and strengthen.”

Champion And Breeders’ Cup Winner Daylami Euthanised At 29

Champion Daylami (Ire) (Doyoun {Ire}–Daltawa {Ire}, by Miswaki), a winner of seven Group 1 races worldwide, has been euthanised due to the infirmities of old age, the Aga Khan Studs announced on Wednesday. He was two weeks shy of his official 29th birthday on Apr. 20.

Racing for first his breeder, His Highness The Aga Khan, and later on in the blue silks of Godolphin, the 1994 foal was second in the 1996 G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud at two and grabbed a Classic laurel in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains. A trio of top-level placings followed that year, at Ascot in the St James's Palace S., and then back in France in the Prix Jacques le Marois and Prix du Moulin.

In 1998, Daylami's 4-year-old season, he exchanged the Aga Khan's green and red silks for the royal blue of Godolphin and left Alain de Royer-Dupre's yard for Saeed bin Suroor's. Both the G1 Eclipse S. and the GI Man o' War S. in England and the U.S. went his way, and it was at five in 1999 that he enjoyed his greatest season on the racecourse. His first victory of the year was in the Coronation Cup, and three more Group/Grade 1 triumphs followed in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth S., the Champion S. at Leopardstown, and in his career swansong, the Breeders' Cup Turf at Gulfstream Park that November. For his efforts, he was named the Cartier Horse of the Year, as well as the Eclipse Champion Grass Horse.

At stud, he sired Classic winner Grey Swallow (Ire) and multiple Group 1 winner Voila Ici (Ire) among his 14 stakes winners. His daughters have foaled 46 stakes winners, including top-level winners Arcano (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), Grand Glory (GB) (Olympic Glory {Ire}), Logician (GB) (Frankel {GB}), and Pierro (Aus) (Lonhro {Aus}).

A half-brother to G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero and sire Dalakhani (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}), Daylami has lived as a pensioner at the Aga Khan Studs at his birthplace in Ireland for the past four years under the care of Joe Doyle. A memorial will commemorate the classy grey at Gilltown Stud in due course.

Decorated Aussie Galloper Anamoe Nominated To The Lockinge At Newbury

Godolphin's superstar Australian runner Anamoe (Aus) (Street Boss) is one of 30 nominees at the latest entry stage for the G1 Al Shaqab Lockinge S. on Saturday, May 20, Newbury Racecourse revealed on Tuesday.

A nine-time Group 1 winner Down Under, the bay won the G1 George Ryder in mid-March last out, part of a three-race winning streak from seven furlongs to one mile, which began in the G2 Apollo S. in February and continued in the G1 Chipping Norton S. later that month. He drew post eight in Saturday's G1 Queen Elizabeth S.

Newbury's eight-furlong contest also features fellow Godolphin runners Modern Games (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), and 2022 Lockinge runner-up Real World (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}). Blue Diamond Stud's G1 Prix de Diane heroine Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) is among the entries, as is three-time G1 Dubai Turf hero Lord North (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}). Other top-level scorers set to take part include Angel Bleu (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), Order Of Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}), The Revenant (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), who runs in the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Heritage S. at Leopardstown on Wednesday, Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), and Sacred (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) are other runners of note in what appears to be a contentious feature.

Keith Ottesen, Clerk of the Course at Newbury Racecourse, said, “It is very exciting and encouraging to see such a strong list of entries for the first older horse Group 1 race of the season. We are pleased to see some of last year's contenders returning for another tilt after chasing home the mighty Baaeed (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), including runner up Real World and third placed Chindit (Ire) (Wootton Bassett {GB}). It's also great to see the Godolphin owned Anamoe, Australia's best horse at a mile, in there, as well as last season's GI Breeders' Cup Mile winner Modern Games.
