Galileo Gold’s Oscula Makes All in the Six Perfections

Fresh off a fourth in Newmarket's G2 Duchess of Cambridge S. last month, Nick Bradley Racing's 2-year-old filly Oscula (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}) stepped forward to register a pillar-to-post victory in Tuesday's G3 Prix Six Perfections Sky Sports Racing at Deauville. The April-foaled bay had previously snagged two of her first three starts, including Epsom's June 4 Woodcote S., and hit the board in the June 18 G3 Albany S. at Royal Ascot. Sharply into stride and seizing immediate control of this seven-furlong test, the 43-5 chance was largely untroubled throughout and maintained a relentless tempo under continued rousting in the straight to comfortably hold the hitherto undefeated Listed Prix Roland de Chambure victrix Zellie (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) and fellow British raider Daneh (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) by 1 1/2 lengths and a neck.

“She is blessed with plenty of talent and is an easy filly to ride,” said jockey Ryan Moore after securing a first win in the contest. “She had won well [in the Woodcote] at Epsom and ran with credit after that in two Group races. She deserved to win a race like this.”

Winning trainer George Boughey, after notching a first pattern-race win of his own, added, “I think she appreciated running on soft ground again, she was very good and toughed it out. It was very quick [going] when she ran at Newmarket the other day and Ryan [Moore] gave her a peach of a ride here. She's quite a progressive filly and it was nice to see her stay the seven furlongs. She's always shown that she could do it and it's nice to see her putting it into action and winning a Group race. She should be a lot of fun for the owners going forward and I imagine she could get a mile. It wouldn't be a surprise to see her go back to France for the [G1] Prix Marcel Boussac at the end of the year on Arc day. It's a lot of hard work that goes into it at home and huge credit to everyone.”

Oscula, half-sister to a yearling colt by Kessaar (Ire), is the second of three foals and lone performer produced by a half-sister to Listed Silken Glider S. and Listed Rothesay S. placegetter Coeur d'Amour (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}). She becomes the third black-type scorer for her freshman sire (by Paco Boy {Ire}). Descendants of her dual-winning third dam Refined (Ire) (Statoblest {Ire})) include G2 Mill Reef S. scorer and G1 Golden Jubilee S. runner-up Galeota (Ire) (Mujadil), G3 Molecomb S. and G3 Sirenia S. winner Brown Sugar (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}), fellow G3 Sirenia S. victor Burnt Sugar (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) and stakes-winning G3 Prix de Cabourg runner-up Darkanna (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}).

No Nay Never’s Armor Impresses in the Molecomb

Al Shaqab Racing's Armor (GB) (No Nay Never) backed up an Apr. 24 maiden score at Doncaster with a close-up fifth, to the reopposing Chipotle (GB) (Havana Gold {Ire}), in Royal Ascot's June 16 Listed Windsor Castle S. and announced his arrival on the juvenile scene with a devastating closing burst to seal an impressive triumph in Wednesday's G3 Markel Molecomb S. at Goodwood. The 6-1 chance was sharply into stride from the stands' side stall and occupied a forward berth in sixth through the early fractions of this five-furlong dash. Nudged along to close soon after halfway, he was ridden to join the front rank passing the eighth pole and surged clear once engaging turbo under a drive inside the final 100 yards for a taking 3 1/4-length success from Fearby (Ire) (Havana Gold {Ire}).

“We have always thought a lot of him and he worked very well on Sunday morning,” revealed trainer Richard Hannon. “He ran very well at Royal Ascot, even though he still looked a little inexperienced, and he's won very well today. He was tapped for speed a little bit coming down to the furlong-and-a-half marker, but he would have loved that ground. Ryan [Moore] said he would like the ground, I think he knows what he's on about, and he did. He's not a big horse and, if he makes a 3-year-old, then great. This is his year and he is good enough now. I've not made too many flash entries for him, but we'll look at something like the [Aug. 22 G1] Prix Morny [at Deauville] and, maybe, the [Sept. 10 G2] Flying Childers [at Doncaster]. He will get six furlongs and we'll have to have a go at a Group 1 race over that trip now.”

Reflecting on the preformance of 13-8 favourite Fearby, rider PJ McDonald said of the runner-up, “He has run a brilliant race. He is an honest little horse, who has never run a bad race, and there is more to come from him. I challenged on the wing and he handled the ground, but he would be better on better ground.”

Armor is the latest of four foals and becomes the first stakes scorer for Hestia (Fr) (High Chaparral {Ire}), herself a winning daughter of Listed Prix La Sorellina second Tadorne (Fr) (Inchinor {Ire}). Tadorne, who also produced G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano and G3 Prix Daphnis victor Pinson (Ire) (Halling), is kin to four black-type winners. They are G1 Grand Criterium third Ximb (Fr) (Septieme Ciel), G3 Prix Miesque and G3 Chartwell Fillies' S. placegetter Verba (Fr) (Anabaa), MGSP Listed Criterium du Bequet victrix Welcome Millenium (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}) and G3 Prix Miesque runner-up Kambura (Fr) (Literato {Fr}). Australia’s Point Lonsdale Takes The Tyros

It looked straightforward on paper for Ballydoyle's TDN Rising Star Point Lonsdale (Ire) (Australia {GB}) ahead of Thursday's G3 Japan Racing Association Tyros S. and that was the case as the full-brother to Broome (Ire) justified 1-8 favouritism in Leopardstown's juvenile pointer. Racing in second early after a slightly tardy start, the June 19 Listed Chesham S. winner took control two out and stayed on strongly to register a three-length verdict over Maritime Wings (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}). “He got a lead today, which was nice as in his last two races he had to be very forward,” commented Aidan O'Brien, who was registering an eighth consecutive success in this often-informative contest. “He was around a bend for the first time, he loved that ground, put his head down and quickened well. It will be the [G2] Futurity [at The Curragh Aug. 21] and, all being well, then the [G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien] National [at The Curragh Sept. 12]. He is very off-handed and straightforward and he has no problem over seven furlongs, so he won't be stepping up yet. He looks like he'll stay well, but has loads of speed. From the first day we worked him he was exciting–he was so forward and showing so much, which is why he's where he is today.”

Point Lonsdale, who had the third-placed Unconquerable (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) 5 1/2 lengths back on his impressive debut at The Curragh June 2 and 6 1/2 lengths behind in this race, is a more precocious sort than his full-sibling who was making his debut at around this time three years ago. Broome, who lines up in Saturday's G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco S., was runner-up in the G2 Champions Juvenile S. and G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at two before winning the G3 Ballysax S. and G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial and finishing fourth in the G1 Epsom Derby the following season. Back better than ever this term, he has won the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, G2 Mooresbridge S. and G3 Alleged S. and been second in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and G2 Hardwicke S.

The dam Sweepstake (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), who also has a yearling filly by Lope de Vega (Ire), was a speedy performer who was successful in the Listed National S. over five furlongs and was third in the G3 Princess Margaret S. over an extra furlong for the Richard Hannon stable. Later second in the GIII Appalachian S. at a mile for the David Carroll barn, she hails from the Hesmonds Stud family of the G3 Fred Darling S. winner Bulaxie (GB) (Bustino {GB}) and the G3 Prix de la Nonette scorer Dust Dancer (GB) (Suave Dancer). Under Bulaxie are the G2 Premio Lydia Tesio scorer Claxon (GB) (Caerleon) and the GIII Hillsborough S. winner and G1 Nassau S. runner-up Cassydora (GB) (Darshaan {GB}), with the latter responsible for the dual G3 Curragh Cup scorer Ernest Hemingway (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), his listed-winning full-sister South Sea Pearl (Ire) and the G3 Prix d'Aumale winner Toulifaut (Ire) (Frankel {GB}).

Dust Dancer produced Spotlight (GB) (Dr Fong), who took the GII Lake Placid H. before throwing the G3 Bengough S. winner Projection (GB), who shares Acclamation (GB) as a sire with Sweepstake. She is also the third dam of last yer's G1 St Leger runner-up Berkshire Rocco (Fr) (Sir Percy {GB}) and of Tyranny (GB) (Machiavellian) who was responsible for the G1 Phoenix S.-winning sire Zoffany (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), Rostropovich (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) who was second in the G1 Irish Derby and Wilshire Boulevard (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) who captured the G3 Anglesey S.

Order of Australia Dominates The Minstrel

Enjoying a step back to seven furlongs for the first time, Ballydoyle's GI Breeders' Cup Mile hero Order of Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}) made all to get back on track in Sunday's G2 Romanised Minstrel S. at The Curragh. Eighth on his return in Royal Ascot's G1 Queen Anne S. June 15, the 2-1 favourite was always comfortable using his stride in front and Ryan Moore's body language told all as he easily held off Njord (Ire) (Roderic O'Connor {Ire}) to score by 1 1/4 lengths. “His first run this year at Ascot was just a bit of a mess, as they jumped out and they hacked. It was the first time we decided to sit him in, being his first run of the year,” Aidan O'Brien commented. “He has plenty of speed and he's able to quicken. He is very straightforward. He's made like a sprinter/miler and at halfway he really started to turn it on. He's a horse that takes his racing well, so we were thinking of coming here and then going for the [July 28 G1] Sussex Stakes [at Goodwood]. He's a horse to look forward to and can go to America later in the year and maybe races after that as well.”

Campaigned over middle distances until his visit to Keeneland, Order of Australia took a highly unusual path to the Breeders' Cup Mile having won conditions events over 10 1/2 furlongs and 12 furlongs on Dundalk's Polytrack and this venue respectively in September. Able to stretch out sufficiently to finish fourth in the G1 Irish Derby in June, the bay who was sixth in the G1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin in December has been something of an enigma as far as trip is concerned but has now found his metier and will shape a different proposition taking on Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}) and Poetic Flare (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}) in the Sussex.

Order of Australia's dam Senta's Dream (GB) (Danehill) is nothing short of a sensation, with two Breeders' Cup winners under her auspices including the Filly & Mare Turf heroine Iridessa (Ire) (Ruler of the World {Ire}) who also captured the G1 Fillies' Mile, G1 Pretty Polly S. and G1 Matron S. She may well have a third waiting in the wings, with last week's GI Belmont Oaks Invitational winner Santa Barbara (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) looking for all the world a viable candidate for the meeting this year. Senta's Dream is one of only two foals out of another Filly & Mare Turf heroine in Starine (Fr) (Mendocino), who also annexed the GI Matriarch S. and GII Diana H.
