Dubawi’s Never Ending Story Takes The Silver Flash

Making it a dozen renewals of Leopardstown's G3 Silver Flash S. for Aidan O'Brien on Thursday, Never Ending Story (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) provided her handler with more quandaries as to where he places his star juvenile fillies as the big events loom. Third on debut over six furlongs at The Curragh May 22 before opening her account back there over this seven-furlong trip June 24, the daughter of Athena (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) was keen early restrained by Ryan Moore behind the leading duo. Swooping three-wide on the turn, the 5-6 favourite was in front a furlong from home and only needed to be pushed out with hands and heels to score by half a length from Zoinnocent (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}), with a head back to the long-time leader La Dolce Vita (Ire) (Caravaggio) in third to make it an Aidan-Joseph-Donnacha tricast.

Kingman Colt A New Rising Star At Sandown

Juddmonte's hitherto unraced 2-year-old colt Nostrum (GB) (Kingman {GB}–Mirror Lake (GB) (MSW & GSP-Eng, $113,061), by Dubai Destination) was let go at odds of 13-2 for Thursday's Martin Densham Memorial EBF Maiden S. at Sandown and came home with a 'TDN Rising Star' after producing a taking display in a contest won last year by subsequent G2 Queen's Vase second Zechariah (Ire) (Nathaniel {Ire}). The homebred bay was bustled along from the gates to occupy a forward pitch in second after the initial strides of the seven-furlong test. Making eyecatching headway from the three-furlong pole, he powered to the front passing the quarter-mile marker and was pushed out inside the final furlong to easily defeat Golden Speech (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) by an impressive three lengths.

“He's a big horse and had been doing well at home,” said Ryan Moore. “I thought he might be a little raw and if he started slowly he might not get organised at all, but I was able to get him into a good position and get a lead. He was left in front a long way out, which I didn't want to be, and every time I asked him he kept lengthening. There's plenty of improvement in him and I'd say he's more of a 3-year-old than a 2-year-old. He'll have no problem going a mile and may get a little further. He's a nice colt.”

Nostrum is the seventh foal and scorer produced by the dual stakes-winning G3 Prestige S. runner-up Mirror Lake (GB) (Dubai Destination), herself a half-sister to the dam of Listed Lanwades Stud S. victrix Hateya (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}). The March-foaled homebred bay is a half-brother to dual Group-winning G1 C F Orr S. runner-up Imaging (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) and Listed Heatherlie S. victor Titus (GB) (Dansili {GB}). Descendants of his third dam Roupala (Vaguely Noble {Ire}) include this term's G1 Saudi Cup hero Emblem Road (Quality Road), multiple Grade I-winning distaffer Ventura (Chester House) and dual elite-level winners Queen Supreme (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) and Harlem (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}).

Galileo’s Lily Pond Takes The Kilboy Estate

There was a competitive line-up for The Curragh's G2 Kilboy Estate S. on Sunday and it was Ballydoyle's Lily Pond (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) who proved toughest as the 3-year-olds filled out the first three places in the nine-furlong feature. Building a smart portfolio since her winning debut at Dundalk Apr. 12, the bay was runner-up in the G3 Blue Wind S. at a mile and a quarter at Naas May 7 and third in the 12-furlong G3 Munster Oaks at Cork June 8 before finding the 14-furlong test of Leopardstown's G3 Stanerra S. beyond her when sixth 10 days prior to this breakthrough. Settled behind stablemate Galleria Borghese (Ire) (Caravaggio) by Ryan Moore, the 8-1 shot was threatened by the even-money favourite Purplepay (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}) approaching two out and while for a few yards she looked likely to go under the Galileo factor kicked in a furlong from home and she was ultimately a reasonably comfortable half-length winner from Seisai (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}), with One For Bobby (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) 3/4 of a length back in third.

“We tried the last day to go up in trip, but it was just too far,” Aidan O'Brien said. “She's a very tough, consistent filly but I'd say probably a mile-and-a-half is as far as she wants to go. She's very comfortable from nine to twelve. When she hung in there for that half a furlong, she got going again going to the line. She could go up into a good mile-and-a-quarter race now. She could be there for Arc weekend for the mile-and-a-quarter fillies' race and she will get up to a mile and a half.”

Pedigree Notes:

Lily Pond, who becomes the 240th group winner for her remarkable late sire, features the illustrious Coolmore monarch on both sides of her pedigree with her fourth dam being the legendary Urban Sea (Miswaki). She is the first foal out of the Listed Hurry Harriet S. winner and Oaks third Alluringly (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), who is a granddaughter of the G3 Middleton S. winner All Too Beautiful (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), the full-sister to Galileo who was runner-up in the Epsom Classic. Also the dam of another Oaks runner-up in Wonder of Wonders (Kingmambo), she is the second dam of the G1 Cox Plate and G1 Tancred S. hero Sir Dragonet (Ire) (Camelot {GB}). Alluringly's unraced 2-year-old Twinkling (Ire) is a full-sister to Lily Pond, while she also has a filly foal by No Nay Never.

Breeders’ Cup Mile Hero On Top At The Curragh

Winless in five starts since annexing last year's edition of the Curragh's G2 Romanised Minstrel S., 2020's GI Breeders' Cup Mile hero Order Of Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}–Senta's Dream {GB}, by Danehill) repeated the dose with a 3 1/2-length triumph in Sunday's latest renewal of the seven-furlong contest at the Co. Kildare venue. The 5-year-old entire, who also hit the board in last term's G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois and G1 Prix du Moulin, arrived for this defence coming back off a third in last month's G1 Queen Anne S. at Royal Ascot and broke smartly to lead from flagfall. In command until bustled along when tackled by Pearls Galore (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) approaching the quarter-mile marker, the 4-5 favourite soon had that rival's measure and was ridden clear in the closing stages to win by a comfortable 3 1/2 lengths. Dr Kempf (GB) (Dark Angel {Ire}) kept on well to finish a half length adrift in third.

“He's a lovely horse, he has loads of speed, he's tough, genuine and hardy,” said Aidan O'Brien after notching a seventh renewal. “He ran a lovely race first time back at [Royal] Ascot this year and the plan was to come here and go on to the [G1] Sussex [at Goodwood] with him. Obviously he's a Breeders Cup Mile winner so he has plenty of class and, as he's getting older, he's getting quicker and stronger. He was working very well going to Ascot, but it was his first run [of the year] so he had to tire a little bit and that's what he did do. He's very straight forward to ride, he's very sound and we're delighted with him. The plan is to go to the Sussex and finish up at the Breeders Cup and he could go to Hong Kong and do all those races. He's at that great age now that he's seasoned, has experience, and he's quicker this year which is great. That'll be a big help in those big races.”

Pedigree Notes:

Order Of Australia, one of his sire's five top-level winners, is kin to a pair of elite-level scorers, viz multiple Group 1-winning GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine Iridessa (Ire) (Ruler Of The World {Ire}) and last term's GI Belmont Oaks Invitational heroine Santa Barbara (Ire) (Camelot {GB}). Their dam Senta's Dream (GB) (Danehill) is one of only two foals produced by GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare and GI Matriarch S. victrix Starine (Fr) (Mendocino). Starine, in turn, is a half-sister to G3 Prix Minerve third Pearlescence (Pleasantly Perfect), with both being out of a half-sister to the dam of Listed Criterium du Bequet third Weld Elven (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}).
