Race Track Chaplaincy Seeking Nominations For White Horse ‘Heroes’ And Community Service Awards

When the word “hero” comes to mind, we think of someone who puts others before self. Heroes don't do heroic acts for the attention, but usually these selfless acts take place quietly without fanfare and often go unrecognized.

There are heroes all around the horse-racing industry and the Race Track Chaplaincy of America (RTCA) wants to recognize some of these selfless servants.

The Race Track Chaplaincy of America (RTCA) is currently seeking nominees for our 18th Annual White Horse Awards (WHA). While these awards are normally presented at the annual White Horse Awards program in conjunction with the Breeders Cup World Championships, this year's program will take place online at a venue and format soon to be announced.

Nominations are now open and being sought for the following awards:

  • White Horse Award –  An award given to individuals who have done something heroic on behalf of human or horse;
  • Community Service Award –  An award given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the welfare of racetrack chaplaincy

To submit a nomination for either the White Horse or Community Service Awards, visit www.rtcanational.org for a complete list of rules and selection criteria, as well as nomination forms. The deadline for submission is September 14, 2020.

The White Horse Award was established in 2003 to recognize individuals within the horse racing industry for their acts of selflessness and bravery. The most recent recipient was Gilbert Cardenas who was instrumental in saving the life of a gate crew member who had a heart attack just after the horses left the gate.

The overall mission of the Race Track Chaplaincy of America (RTCA), through its Councils and Chaplains, is to minister to the spiritual, emotional, physical, social, and educational needs of those persons involved in all aspects of the horse-racing industry.
