Quinn Doubly Represented In King’s Stand

Trainer John Quinn is set for a busy week at Royal Ascot, with G1 King's Stand S. starters Liberty Beach (GB) (Cable Bay {Ire}) and Keep Busy (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) among a possible four runners at next week's marquee meeting.

Those aforementioned 4-year-old fillies lined up against one another on their seasonal debuts in the May 22 G2 Temple S. at Haydock, with Philip Wilkins's Liberty Beach winning by a neck and Doreen Tabor's Keep Busy finishing fifth.

“They are working well,” the North Yorkshire-based Quinn said. “I'm very happy with them. They've come out of Haydock well. You could see with Keep Busy the run wasn't lost on her. That was her usual. It's her style. Liberty Beach has come on as well. Both will turn up.”

Quinn has options for his unbeaten 2-year-old Tipperary Sunset (GB) (Ardad {Ire}), who could line up in the G2 Norfolk S. or Listed Windsor Castle S. off wins at Beverley and Hamilton.

“We've put him in the Windsor Castle and we're going to put him in the Norfolk,” Quinn said. “He's come out of Beverley really well and I intend to run him in one or the other.”

Four-year-old filly Frankenstella (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) holds an entry in the Ascot S., but is not certain to make the cut.

“She might not get in and she might need rain to run,” Quinn said. “We'll keep a good eye on everything.”

Larry Collmus, Nick Luck Join TVG Broadcast Team This Summer

TVG will introduce two faces familiar to horse racing fans both here and abroad to its broadcast team this summer, the network announced today. Larry Collmus, best known as the voice of the Triple Crown on NBC, will join the TVG broadcast team for select days at Monmouth Park, and NBC Sports broadcast personality and international racing expert Nick Luck, a staple of horse racing coverage in both the UK and US, will be part of the TVG's special coverage of the iconic Royal Ascot meet from June 15 through June 18.

“We are very excited to have both Larry and Nick join our talent roster this summer,” said Kevin Grigsby, executive producer and senior vice president of television for FanDuel Group and TVG. “Both bring considerable experience, knowledge and local insight that will resonate with our audience.”

Collmus, a resident of the New Jersey shore and the Monmouth Park track announcer from 1994 to 2013, will co-host with Joaquin Jaime and Dave Weaver live from the TVG set trackside at Monmouth Park to provide perspective, analysis and insights on select days throughout the meet beginning with this weekend's coverage highlighted by the TVG.com Pegasus Stakes on Sunday. The race, the major prep for the Haskell Invitational, is expected to draw Mandaloun, runner-up finisher in the Kentucky Derby for trainer Brad Cox.

In addition to his time at Monmouth Park, Collmus has been the track announcer at major tracks across the country including the NYRA circuit, Gulfstream Park and Del Mar, and has worked as the race caller for NBC Sports' coverage of the Triple Crown since 2011 and the Breeders' Cup since 2012.

TVG's special coverage of every race from the Royal Ascot meeting will begin on Tuesday, June 15 at 9:00 a.m. ET/6:00 a.m. PT. TVG's Scott Hazelton will anchor the week-long Royal Ascot coverage from the Los Angeles studio, and Luck will be joining international racing expert Jess Stafford with live, on-site coverage featuring exclusive interviews, analysis and selections.

The Royal Ascot meeting will feature four Breeders' Cup “Win and You're In” Challenge races which will earn the winner an automatic berth into the Breeders' Cup which will be held at Del Mar on November 5-6. The races are the Queen Anne Stakes (Fan Duel Mile), Prince of Wales's Stakes (Longines Turf), Norfolk Stakes (Juvenile Turf) and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Turf Sprint).

O’Brien Runners On Ascot Comeback Missions

Joseph O'Brien's Group 1-winning juveniles Thunder Moon (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) and Pretty Gorgeous (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) will attempt to get back in the winner's enclosure at Royal Ascot next week.

Chantal Regalado-Gonzalez's Thunder Moon stamped himself as a leader of his generation in the autumn with a victory in the G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National S. and a third in the G1 Dewhurst S., but disappointed when last of 14 in the May 1 G1 2000 Guineas.

“Thunder Moon obviously disappointed at Newmarket, so we've put a line through that run,” O'Brien told the Nick Luck Daily Podcast. “We had an eye on the Irish Guineas but when the ground looked like it was going to be soft, which it was, we rerouted to go to Ascot and his preparation has gone well.”

Of the colt's Guineas performance, O'Brien added, “Nothing really came to light other than the fact he got very upset pre-race; we didn't have much of an excuse. He's been well since. Unfortunately these things happen and we've just put a line through it. There's always the possibility [that he hasn't trained on] but his work has been nice at home. He's always been a sharp worker and his work has been good in preparation for this race. You never know until they do it on the track and that is where it matters.”

Thunder Moon will have the chance to redeem himself in the G1 St James's Palace S.

“I think it's a suitable race, a relatively easy mile compared to The Curragh–it's certainly easier than that, so it looks a good race for him,” O'Brien said. “I think he goes there with an outside chance, certainly a good chance if he can get back to his best form.”

John Oxley's G1 Fillies' Mile winner and Cartier champion 2-year-old filly Pretty Gorgeous finished seventh, beaten 3 1/2 lengths, in the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas in the lone start thus far of her 3-year-old campaign. She holds an entry in next week's G1 Coronation S.

“She's done really well,” O'Brien said. “It was well documented we didn't have the smoothest of runs with her but I was pleased with her at The Curragh, I was pleased with her comeback run and I'm excited to get her out again. I think her ideal ground is the easy side of good, but she's proven effective on all surfaces. I'm happy enough with the ground for her.

“I feel good with the Ascot team, we might not have any outstanding chances but we have some nice chances. I think Pretty Gorgeous might be our best chance going over there. I'd be very pleased if we can get one on the board.”
