Rebel’s Romance To Miss Arlington Million

Rebel's Romance (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who was to be rerouted to next Saturday's GI Arlington Million at Colonial Downs after going down in the July 30 GII Bowling Green S., will reportedly miss the race, a tweet from Godolphin read.

The 5-year-old, whose previous trip to America resulted in a 2 1/2-length victory in last year's GI Breeders' Cup Turf, missed a prep for this year's G1 Longines Dubai Sheema Classic and was forced to train up to the 2410-meter feature, only to finish 11 lengths back of the world's top-rated racehorse Equinox (Jpn) (Kitasan Black {Jpn}) in seventh, his first defeat in six starts on the turf. Supplemented to the Bowling Green, the dark bay clipped heels and tossed jockey Richard Mullen to the turf, but got back to his feet and completed the course riderless.

According to the tweet, connections are set to reassess his options with future plans to be announced at a later time.

Rebel’s Romance Leads Godolphin Assault on Arlington Million

Last year's GI Breeders' Cup Turf winner Rebel's Romance (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) will make his next start in the GI Colonial Downs Arlington Million on Aug. 12, Godolphin tweeted on Tuesday. On Sunday the 5-year-old gelding clipped heels on the far turn during the running of the GII Bowling Green S. at Saratoga and unseated rider Richard Mullen. Trainer Charlie Appleby reported Rebel's Romance to be uninjured following the incident and Mullen also escaped unscathed after being taken to Albany Medical Center for evaluation.

Godolphin also announced via Twitter that GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up Silver Knott (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) and Classic-placed Master Of The Seas (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) will join Rebel's Romance in the Colonial Downs turf feature.

Godolphin Double In Bahrain As Turf Series Continues

Trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey Richard Mullen teamed up to give Godolphin a racing double in Bahrain. The first win came in the £60,000 Anchorman Cup when King Of Conquest (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) broke the track record to give the 'Boys in Blue' their first victory in this season's Bahrain Turf Series. They would win the Listed Crown Prince's Cup later on the card with Warren Point (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). Mullen settled his mount just off the pace and when asked, the 4-year-old exhibited the proper turn-of-foot to win by a length.

“We hoped stepping up King of Conquest to 9-furlongs would suit him and bring about further improvement which it did,” said Appleby. “The ground was quick enough for him, so it was a brave performance.”

In the second Bahrain Turf Series race of the day, the Hawar Cup, Deep Intrigue (GB) (Dark Angel {Ire}) bounced back to form. Trained in England by Mark Johnston, his new outfit helmed by Hesham Al Haddad, brought him back after more than a year off to win with young Omani jockey Anas bin Salim Al Siyabi in the irons.
