Faversham, Full-Brother To California Chrome, Enters Stud At Daehling Ranch In California

Faversham, a multiple winner and the only full-brother to two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome, has been retired from racing to stand at Daehling Ranch in Northern California. His 2021 fee is $2,000, live foal guarantee. Lifetime breeding rights are available for $4,500.

A 5-year-old son of the late Lucky Pulpit, California's leading sire by progeny earnings in 2014 and 2016, Faversham was campaigned by his co-breeders, Perry and Denise Martin of Martin Racing, who also co-bred and raced California Chrome. Like his wildly famous older sibling, Faversham is a California-bred who won races on two different surfaces.

California Chrome won the 2014 Kentucky Derby, the 2016 Dubai World Cup and five additional Grade 1 races on dirt and turf before he retired to the breeding shed in 2017 with Eclipse Awards as Horse of the Year for 2014 and 2016, and a career bankroll of $14,752,650 that ranked him as the highest-earning North American runner in history. After standing his first three breeding seasons in Kentucky, with two additional Southern Hemisphere stints in Chile, California Chrome was purchased privately in late 2019 by Japan-based connections, and stood at Arrow Stud in that country this year.

The 9-year-old stallion is represented by eight winners from his first crop of 2-year-olds in 2020, led by his Grade 1-placed filly, Cilla.

Faversham and California Chrome were produced by two-time California Broodmare of the Year Love the Chase, a winning daughter of 12-time leading Maryland sire Not For Love.

“Faversham overcame several obstacles, including a torn tendon, to win races in California and Kentucky for us,” Perry Martin said of the Santa Anita Park and Turfway Park winner. “He always tried his best and managed to carve his own identity from the immense shadow cast by his big brother, who was the rarest of all Thoroughbreds — the horse of a lifetime.”

Faversham successfully covered a small group of test mares privately late last spring, and will be available to outside mare owners in 2021 as a registered California stallion nominated to Breeders' Cup.

Grade 3-Placed Tour De Force Enters Stud At Workwize Stables In Alberta

The graded stakes placed runner Tour de Force will stand the 2021 season at Workwize Stables in Acme, Alberta.

The 7-year-old Tiznow stallion completed his racing career this August with total earnings of $213,360. His record includes two third-place finishes last season in the $100,000 Flat Out Stakes at Belmont Park and the $150,000 Grade 3 Excelsior Stakes at Aqueduct. Tour de Force also finished third in the $75,000 black type Challedon Stakes at Laurel Park in 2018.

Bred in Kentucky by Kinsman Farn, the freshman sire sold for $1.35 million at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, consigned by Lane's End Farm.

The dam of Tour de Force, Dream Supreme, is a multiple grades stakes-winning Seeking the Gold mare who earned over $1 million in three seasons on the track. The impressive record for Dream Supreme included victories in the Grade 1 Ballerina Handicap and Test Stakes at Saratoga in addition to multiple wins in Grade 2 and Grade 3 stakes races.

Tour de Force is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner and sire Majestic Warrior, as well as Grade 3-placed stakes winner Evolutionist and stakes-winning stakes producer Crystal Current.

Grade 1 Winner Nadal To Enter Stud In Japan

Nadal, a Grade 1 winner who went unbeaten in his four career starts, has been sold to enter stud at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan for the 2021 breeding season.

A fee will be announced at a later time for the 3-year-old son of Blame, who raced for owners George Bolton, Arthur Hoyeau, Barry Lipman, and Mark Mathiesen. Bob Baffert trained the colt, who was retired in May after suffering a condylar fracture in his left foreleg, requiring surgery.

Up until that point, Nadal was considered one of the favorites for this year's Triple Crown races, boasting an imposing record in California and Arkansas. He debuted in January of his 3-year-old season, winning a maiden special weight at Santa Anita Park by 3 3/4 lengths. He then made his stakes debut in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes, winning by a half-length.

The colt began pointing toward the Triple Crown in earnest with a shift to Oaklawn Park, where he took the G2 Rebel Stakes, then exploded to win a division of the G1 Arkansas Derby by three lengths.

Nadal retired with earnings of $1,053,000.

Bred in Kentucky by Sierra Farm, Nadal is out of the placed Pulpit mare Ascending Angel, putting him in the family of champion Pleasant Stage and Grade 1 winner Journey Home. He was a $700,000 purchase at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Selected 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale.
