Honor Code’s Honor D Lady Takes Remington Park Oaks

Honor D Lady (f, 3, Honor Code–Complicated, by Blame) overtook pacesetting Ancient Peace (War Front) in deep stretch and kicked clear to score by 2 1/2 lengths in the GIII Remington Park Oaks Sunday night. The 7-1 shot sat just off the early leaders while three wide around the first turn and down the backstretch. She began to reel in Ancient Peace approaching the stretch and finally got that better of that stubborn foe in the waning strides before pulling away to the wire.

The dark bay filly, making just her second start on conventional dirt, ended her juvenile campaign with a third-place effort over the synthetic surface at Woodbine in the GIII Mazarine S. and won the Honey Ryder S. over the lawn at Gulfstream in her sophomore debut in May. Third over Gulfstream's Tapeta in the June 10 Martha Washington S., she was runner-up in the July 1 GIII Selene S. and was coming off a 10th-place effort in the Aug. 4 GIII Saratoga Oaks Invitational.

Out of Complicated, Honor D Lady is a half-sister to stakes winner Churchtown (Air Force Blue), as well as recent GI Natalma S. runner-up Simply in Front (Summer Front). She has a weanling half-sister by War Front and a yearling half-sister by Omaha Beach who sold for $750,000 at last month's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale. Her third dam is multiple Grade I winner Educated Risk (Mr. Prospector).

Derby and Oaks Day, Oklahoma Style

Sunday's GIII Oklahoma Derby and GIII Remington Park Oaks give the sophomore set a late-season option at age-restricted competition, with some marquee names making the trek across to Oklahoma City.

Brad Cox has sent out the winners of the last three runnings of the centerpiece of the local racing calendar–Owendale (Into Mischief, 2019); Shared Sense (Street Sense, 2020); and Warrant (Constitution, 2021) and can break the tie with Donnie K. Von Hemel should Gary and Mary West's Best Actor (Flatter) validate his morning-line favoritism. The $330,000 Keeneland September purchase has tasted defeat just once in his four-race career when narrowly runner-up in the GIII Indiana Derby July 9, but he bounced back in no uncertain terms with a 5 3/4-length romp in the GIII Smarty Jones S. at Parx Aug. 23. He swerves that track's million-dollar race and its heavy hitters for the clearly softer competition here. Florent Geroux, in the irons for Owendale's tough win four years ago, takes the call on Best Actor.

Rattle N Roll (Connect) won last year's GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity and looks for a third Derby this year to go along with the July 2 American Derby at Churchill and the St. Louis Derby at FanDuel Racing Aug. 20. Sandwiched between those is a seventh in the Indiana Derby, a race that is best forgiven after he was hampered badly and clipped heels at the start, then trailed most of the way.

Barring something unforeseen, Juju's Map (Liam's Map) should be able to add her name to the list of Remington Park Oaks winners. Last year's GI Darley Alcibiades S. victress returned with a smashing Oaks day allowance tally May 6, but has since disappointed at odds-on when third in the GII Mother Goose S. and GIII Monmouth Oaks.

Sunday's other graded action includes the GII Gallant Bloom S., featuring 'TDN Rising Star' Kimari (Munnings), at Aqueduct and the GIII Vigil S. at Woodbine.

Lady Mystify Gets First Graded Stakes Win In Remington Park Oaks

Lady Mystify made the trip from California to Oklahoma a winning one with a pace-stalking performance in the Grade 3 Remington Park Oaks at the Oklahoma City, Okla., track.

In her only previous try at graded stakes company, Lady Mystify, trained by Peter Eurton, was fifth in the Grade 3 Torrey Pines at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, Calif. in late August. In the G3 Oaks, facing a field that included G3 Fantasy Stakes winner Pauline's Pearl and Cathryn Sophia Stakes winner Lovely Ride, Lady Mystify broke cleanly, jockey Flavien Prat putting her third behind front-runner My Girl Red early in the 1 1/16-mile stakes.

Around the far turn, Prat pulled his filly even with My Girl Red as Ricardo Santana, Jr. moved Pauline's Pearl on the outside of horses to start her bid in the stretch. At the top of the lane, Lady Mystify took over the lead as Pauline's Pearl tried to challenge on her outside. The Eurton trainee was too much for Pauline's Pearl, drawing away to win by three lengths. Amendment Nineteen was third and Bobbin Tail fourth.

The final time for the G3 Remington Park Oaks was 1:44.13. Find this race's chart here.

Lady Mystify paid $14.00, $5.00, and $2.80. Pauline's Pearl paid $2.80 and $2.10. Amendment Nineteen paid $2.10.

Bred in Kentucky by Scott Dilworth and Evan Dilworth, Lady Mystify is by Bernardini out of the Unbridled's Song mare J. Quirk. She is a 3-year-old filly owned by Exline-Border Racing LLC, SAF Racing, and Richard Hausman. Lady Mystify was purchased by Exline-Border Racing from consigner Niall Brennan Stables for $325,000 at the 2020 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. With her win in the G3 Remington Park Oaks, Lady Mystify has three wins in five starts in 2021, for a lifetime record of 6-3-1-1 and career earnings of $217,520.

Amendment Nineteen Debuts for Cox in Remington Oaks

Amendment Nineteen (Constitution), privately purchased by Juddmonte and transferred to Brad Cox last month, will make her debut for the new connections while trying two turns for the first time in a seven-horse renewal of Sunday's GIII Remington Park Oaks on the GIII Oklahoma Derby undercard at Remington.

Debuting with a strong, fast-closing second at 15-1 behind subsequent 'TDN Rising Star' Always Carina (Malibu Moon) at six furlongs in the Aqueduct mud Apr. 11, the $20,000 Keeneland November buy overcame a slow start and a wide trip to graduate going a sloppy mile May 30 at Belmont. A good second while again taking the overland route in a Saratoga allowance July 24, she was bought and transferred from the Linda Rice barn a few weeks later, and shows four breezes for Cox, most recently drilling a sharp five furlongs in :59 4/5 (4/40) Sept. 19 at Churchill.

Stonestreet Stables' Pauline's Pearl (Tapit) looks for her first win since the spring while breaking from the rail here. Runner-up at just under 19-1 making her first start against winners in the GIII Honeybee S. Mar. 6 at Oaklawn, the gray scored at odds-on next out in the GIII Fantasy S. Apr. 3 before retreating to eighth after chasing the pace in the GI Longines Kentucky Oaks Apr. 30. Given a brief break, she has since returned with a third in the GIII Iowa Oaks July 2 at Prairie Meadows and a second last out in the GIII Charles Town Oaks Aug. 27.

Rounding out the top contenders are Allied Racing Stable's Lovely Ride (Candy Ride {Arg}), who is four-for-six lifetime and picked up her first stakes success with a game win in the Cathryn Sophia S. last out Aug. 24 at Parx, and Lady Mystify (Bernardini), who ships in from the West Coast for Peter Eurton after bleeding when finishing a well-beaten fifth in the GIII Torrey Pines S. Aug. 21 at Del Mar.
