Heartwood to Rancho San Miguel

Multiple stakes winner and graded placed Heartwood (Tapit–Maple Forest, by Forestry) will take up stud duties next year at Rancho San Miguel in California. He will stand the 2021 season for $2,500, live foal guarantee. The 6-year-old, who races for the partnership of Stuart Tsuimoto and David Bernsen, won the 2019 King Cotton S., as well as two other stakes races. He was second in the 2018 GIII Fall Highweight H. and third in that year’s GIII Mr. Prospector S.

Heartwood is expected to make two additional starts in graded company at Santa Anita in January before retiring to stud. He currently has eight wins from 33 starts and earnings of $486,891.

“We are excited to offer West Coast breeders a stallion prospect of this magnitude by North America’s most successful sire of the modern era,” said Rancho San Miguel owner and manager Tom Clark. “Not only does Heartwood hold distinction as Tapit’s only dirt stakes winner available in California, he boasts the same broodmare sire as North America’s leading freshman sire of 2020, Nyquist.”

Clark continued, “As a direct male descendant of the breed-shaping stallion A.P. Indy, he also complements our existing stallion roster, which includes sires from the Mr. Prospector, Relaunch and Storm Cat lines.”

Climax Stallions Announces Fees For 2021 Roster

After a very successful year across the country for Climax Stallions, 2021 looks to be equally as promising.

Topping the roster this year is stallion, St Patrick's Day, who will stand again for $5,000 LFSN at Journeyman Stallions in Ocala, Fla. St Patrick's Day, the full brother to the brilliant, American Pharoah, concluded the 2020 breeding season with 116 mares bred.

Next on the Climax Stallions roster is Curlin to Mischief, California's co-leading second crop sire by winners, blacktype winners and blacktype horses. Leading his progeny is top juvenile stakes winner, Good with People. Despite his recent success, Curlin to Mischief's 2021 fee will remain at $3,500 LFSN standing at Rancho San Miguel in San Miguel, Calif.

Concluding the list is Editorial, who will stand the 2021 season for $2,500 LFSN at a new location, Freedom Hills Farm in Taneytown, Md. Uncle Mo has quickly become a sire of sires which looks to brighten the future for his half-brother, Editorial. Editorial will be finishing up his shuttling duties in Peru, where he bred a nice book of mares, and head back to the U.S. for 2021 and beyond.

Sir Prancealot Tops 2021 Stud Roster At Rancho San Miguel

Rancho San Miguel has set 2021 stud fees for its roster of seven stallions, led by the globetrotting Sir Prancealot (IRE) whose fee will remain a California-leading $15,000 for his second season at stud in California.

Sir Prancealot, who sired progeny which won stakes in at least 6 countries in 2020, will return from Cornerstone Stud in Australia after breeding 105 mares in California in 2020. His offspring have shown a propensity for high quality racing in North America with 17% Graded Stakes winners and 53% Stakes Horses earning an average earning per starters of over $210,000 from his only 17 starters. They performed very well in the Breeders Cup last weekend when Miss Amulet ran a good third in the BC Juvenile Turf S-G1 in her U.S. debut and Lady Prancealot ran a very close fourth in the BC Filly & Mares Turf-G1. They have also starred in the sales ring at Keeneland this week when the all 3 race mares by Sir Prancealot offered sold for an average over $766,000 led by Grade I winner Lady Prancealot, who sold for $1,600,000.

Danzing Candy, a brilliantly fast multiple Grade 2 winning son of Twirling Candy who bred 331 mares in his first 3 crop and whose first crop will be two-year-olds next year, will have his fee remain at $5,000. His yearlings have been well received in California, Washington and Florida sales, topped by a $115,000 colt at the 2020 OBS October Yearling Sale.

Curlin to Mischief, perhaps the best bred stallion in California being a ½ brother to Into Mischief, Beholder and Mendelssohn, will have his fee remain at $3,500. His two-year-old son, Good With People, is a multiple stakes winner of $199,000 and is the current favorite to win California-bred Champion Two-Year-Old colt in 2020. In the sales ring, another colt was sold for $85,000, which was among the highest prices at the recent 2020 Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearling Sale. His fee remains at $3,500.
