This year’s Bowling Green Stakes Saturday at Saratoga Race Course drew a main group of eight contenders plus three additional entrants entered for the main track only in the event rain forces the turf stakes onto the main track. Weather forecasts can change quickly, but the outlook for opening weekend of the summer meet at Saratoga looks mostly clear.

On the Rise: Trainer Amelia Green
Amelia Green, 32, left her job last fall with Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher to set up her own training operation. The native of England, who rode races for a short spell, worked as an exercise rider, foreman, and assistant during her seven years for Pletcher. She counts among her other mentors the legendary Sir Henry Cecil, one of the most prominent international trainers until his 2013 death.
Tip Top Thomas Sets Track Record in Indiana Derby Win
Tip Top Thomas gamely turned back graded stakes winner Coal Battle to win the $300,000 Grade 3 Indiana Derby July 5 at Horseshoe Indianapolis. He zipped 1 1/16 miles in a track record final time of 1:41.15 on a fast-playing main track.
