The 2020 All American Quarter Horse Congress Has Been Cancelled

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association regretfully announces the cancellation of the 2020 All American Quarter Horse Congress, scheduled for September 29 through October 25. The uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic simply prevents safely moving forward in Columbus, Ohio. The well-being of our workers, exhibitors and attendees is our highest priority and based on the information we have today, the risk is simply too great. Thank you for understanding this difficult decision.

“It is a sad day with the cancellation of the 2020 All American Quarter Horse Congress. Hearing all the concerns from the local and state health departments, and the CDC, it was the right decision to make to keep people safe and healthy,” said Dr. Scott Myers, CEO of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association. “It is disappointing to all who worked tirelessly in preparation for this year's Congress, and I want to personally thank you for your continued support. I look forward to the biggest and best Congress ever in 2021.”

Sincere thanks to the many loyal Congress sponsors, exhibitors and supporters. We are in this together, our industry is strong and rest assured, the Congress will be here in 2021. Details on moving forward and further updates will be available here.

Indiana Grand To Implement Jockey Restrictions Beginning Monday, June 15

Indiana Grand Racecourse is working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of all those involved with the current racing season, which began Monday, June 15. After consultation with the Indiana Horse Racing Commission (IHRC), all jockeys accepting a mount at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino will agree to ride exclusively at the facility. This restriction goes into effect Friday, July 10, 2020 and applies to both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse jockeys.

If a jockey that is currently riding at Indiana Grand enters another jockey's quarters at another racetrack, he or she will not be allowed to return to Indiana Grand without self-quarantining for 14 days. After that time period, the jockey will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test. This policy will remain in effect until further notice. Jockeys who wish to move their tack to Indiana Grand must also go through the 14-day quarantine and provide a negative Covid-19 test before they will be accepted to ride.

Live racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 18. Action is held Monday through Thursday beginning at 2:20 p.m. Post times for the all-Quarter Horse programs is to be determined.

Ruidoso Horse Sales Move 2020 Events To Oklahoma

The 2020 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the 2020 New Mexico-Bred Sale and the Foal In Utero Sale will be conducted at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla., on Aug. 27 , 28 and 29.

After weighing several factors relating to the annual horse sales, specifically the current New Mexico Public Health Order which limits mass gatherings, All-American Ruidoso Horse Sale will partner with Lazy E Arena, located just north of Oklahoma City, to hold the sales.

The two long-standing sales will also be combined into a single event. With a start time of 10 a.m. each day, the Thursday session will feature approximately 200 New Mexico-bred yearlings. The Friday/Saturday sessions will offer approximately 400 select Quarter Horse yearlings, 20 select foals in utero, and the partial R.D. Hubbard dispersal.

The live sale event will be streamed online at RaceRuidoso.com at no charge. Interested buyers will be able to bid onsite and via phone only. Horses will arrive on site at the Lazy E and will be available for inspection beginning Aug. 25. A single catalog will be produced for all three days and will be available the first week of August. A catalog can be requested at RaceRuidoso.com.

The sale dates are the weekend after the All American Futurity and Derby Trials which occur at Ruidoso Downs Aug. 21 through 23.

“We will not have the magic of Ruidoso this year, but the Lazy E arena is a nice air-conditioned facility that is used to hosting big events and will accommodate our specific needs. We look forward to returning to Ruidoso in 2021,” said Lowell Neumayer, general manager of the All-American Horse Sale Co. “The All-American Ruidoso Horse Sale Co. is very grateful to Gary and Micah McKinney and Dan Wall of the Lazy E, and the Ruidoso Downs owners and management for their assistance in helping to arrive at this solution.”
