Chantilly: TDN Rising Star Ramatuelle Set For Robert Papin Test

So far, the dazzling TDN Rising Star Ramatuelle (Justify) has ruled the roost among the fillies of her native France and it is time to go up the ladder again in Sunday's six-furlong G2 Prix Robert Papin at Chantilly. Successful in her opening salvo and the G3 Prix du Bois by a cumulative margin of 9 1/2 lengths at this venue, Infinity Nine Horses' Christopher Head trainee was denied in between by fellow TDN Rising Star and Listed Prix Roland de Chambure winner Beauvatier (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) in Saint-Cloud's Prix Pirette conditions event.

She meets another colt of high standing here in Ballydoyle's His Majesty (Ire) (No Nay Never), who after winning the Curragh's Listed First Flier S. on debut has danced some of the big dances in Britain and Ireland. Whether his third in the G3 Marble Hill S. is good enough to trouble the filly remains to be seen, but he does seems the chief threat to her aside from the unexposed and unbeaten Classic Flower (GB) (Calyx {GB}) from the Patrice Cottier stable. She was impressive over five furlongs at Bordeaux-le-Bouscat in May and would provide her first-crop sire with a huge week if making the jump up.

In the G3 Prix Messidor, The Aga Khan's G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein winner and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois third Erevann (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) looks for a confidence boost, while the G3 Prix Chloe features last year's G3 Preis der Winterkonigin winner Quantanamera (Ger) (Lope De Vega {Ire}).

Sunday’s Observations: Quantanamera Returns at Hannover

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Sunday's Observations features the seasonal bow of Quantanamera (Ger), who will prep in the contest for Group company.

13.30 Hannover, Cond, €20,000, 3yo, 12fT
QUANTANAMERA (GER) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) has her seasonal bow in this Derby-Trial which formerly carried listed status and is quite a presence, having beaten this week's listed scorer Empore (Ger) (Oasis Dream {GB}) by 8 1/2 lengths when last seen in Baden-Baden's G3 Preis der Winterkonigin in October. Bred to appreciate middle distances, Jurgen Sartori's Andreas Suborics trainee is the sole filly against six colts as she bids to further her claims for both the July 2 G1 Deutsches Derby and Aug. 6 G1 Preis der Diana.

German Derby/Oaks Entries Close Wednesday

Nominations for next season's G1 154th IDEE Deutsches Derby and G1 Henkel-Preis der Diana (German Oaks) close Wednesday. The former contest, scheduled for July 2 at Hamburg, has already attracted a swathe of notable entries including Paul Vandeberg's hitherto unraced filly Tiara Hilleshage (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}), who is a homebred full-sister to last term's G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Torquator Tasso (Ger). “She is an elegant filly who, like her brother, needs time and the focus is on her 3-year-old season,” said trainer Marcel Weiss earlier this year. Another eyecatching nominee is Gestut Rottgen's 'TDN Rising Star' Aspirant (Ger) (Protectionist {Ger}), who remains engaged in Krefeld's Nov. 13 G3 Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen. Tiara Hilleshage is on the Derby list alongside fellow distaffers Quantanamera (Ger) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), the impressive 8 1/2-length winner of last month's G3 Preis der Winterkonigin, and Sunday's 'TDN Rising Star' Naila (Fr) (Adlerflug {Ger}) with the trio also holding entries for the Aug. 6 Preis der Diana at Dusseldorf.

Lope De Vega’s Quantanamera Slays Winterkonigin Rivals

Jurgen Sartori's unbeaten 2-year-old filly Quantanamera (Ger) (Lope De Vega {Ire}–Quaduna {GB}, by Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}) posted an impressive three-length debut success tackling nine furlongs at Dortmund last month and blitzed those that dared once more in Sunday's G3 BBAG Preis der Winterkonigin, Germany's premium event for juvenile fillies, at Baden-Baden. The well-backed 6-4 favourite was sharply into stride from the outside stall and bowled along under a firm hold on the front end. Settling the contest in an instant when shaken up at the top of the straight, she left toiling rivals trailing in her wake from the quarter-mile marker and quickened clear in impressive fashion before gearing down inside the final furlong to easily outclass Empore (Ger) (Oasis Dream {GB}) by an untroubled 8 1/2 lengths.

“After Quantanamera had worked two weeks ago, I said to my wife that we might have a really exceptional horse in the stable,” Cologne trainer Andreas Suborics told GaloppOnline after registering a first win in the one-mile contest. “She is the best filly I've ever had in training and my pulse was racing today. It was a gala performance and she will now get entries for all the major races, including the [G1] Prix de Diane, but we will enjoy this success first.”

Quantanamera, a half-sister to Listed Prix Le Fabuleux runner-up Quello (Ire) (Soldier Hollow {GB}), becomes the 61st pattern-race winner for her sire (by Shamardal) and is the third of five foals and second scorer from as many runners out of dual G3 Premio Verziere victrix Quaduna (Ger) (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}). Quaduna is the leading performer for G2 Schwarzgold-Rennen winner Quelle Amore (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}), herself a full-sister to Listed Prix Max Sicard victor Quidamo (GB). Quelle Amore is also kin to Listed Badener Steher Cup winner Qsar (Ger) (Tiger Hill {Ire}). Quaduna, who hails from the family of dual Group 1-placed G2 Preis der Diana (German Oaks) and G2 German 1000 Guineas heroine Que Belle (Seattle Dancer), has a yearling filly by Saxon Warrior (Jpn) and a weanling filly by Too Darn Hot (GB) to come.
