Quality Road Anchors Lane’s End Stallion Roster at $200K

Quality Road (Elusive Quality), the sire of 17 stakes winners in 2023 including GI Preakness S. hero National Treasure, will stand the 2024 breeding season for $200,000, the same fee he commanded in 2023.

The 17-year-old stallion, is responsible for an additional five winners at the graded level this season, including 'TDN Rising Star' Agate Road, who makes his next appearance in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Nov. 3.

Accordingly, it has been a strong yearling sales season for Quality Road, who was represented at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale by a colt out of Grade III winner I'm a Looker (Henny Hughes) that was sold to AMO Racing for $1.1 million, while he had no fewer than 10 yearling sell for $500,000 or more at Keeneland September, topped by a $900,000 half-sister to Grade III winner Moonlight d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro).

Flightline (Tapit) stood his first season at Lane's End in 2023 at $200,000, having attracted an impressive array of top-quality mares. The covering fee for the 2022 Longines World's Highest Rated Racehorse has been reduced to $150,000 for the upcoming season.

“Flightline was held to 152 mares in his first season. We adjusted his fee for his second season in keeping with what has become 'industry norm', while continuing to limit his book close to 150 mares again,” said Lane's End's Bill Farish.

New to the Lane's End stallion barn for 2024 is top Breeders' Cup chance Up To the Mark (Not This Time), while it was recently announced that Arcangelo (Arrogate) would be added to the roster at the conclusion of his racing career.

Candy Ride (Arg) (Ride the Rails), whose son Geaux Rocket Ride will be among the top picks in the upcoming GI Breeders' Cup Classic, will command a fee of $75,000, while his successful son Twirling Candy stands for $60,000. Candy Ride's champion son Game Winner, a top-10 freshman sire of yearlings in 2023, will serve mares at $20,000.

Oct. 7 Insights: Well-Related Juveniles Debut on Both Coasts

GALLANT MISCHIEF (Into Mischief), a $480,000 KEENOV purchase in 2021, will put his best foot forward in this first juvenile maiden on a packed Keeneland card for conditioner Mark Casse and owner Tracy Farmer. A half-brother to MGISW Beach Patrol (Lemon Drop Kid), he comes into this contest with a string of very strong works at Ellis Park, including three successive bullets starting Aug. 17 (1/12), Aug. 30 (1/17) and Sept. 10 (1/22). Gallant Mischief is out of a half-sister to a host of accomplished 'Berties' including MGSW Hurricane Bertie; MGSW & GISP Allamerican Bertie-dam of MSW Homerun Berti and graddam of multiple course-record setter MSW & GSP Believe in Bertie. Booth (Mitole), a $225,000 OBSMAR procurement this past spring, will take to the track after a Super Saturday of racing at Keeneland with an eye on breaking his maiden for trainer Steve Asmussen and the Heiligbrodts. Half-brother to GI Jockey Club Gold Cup hero Bright Future (Curlin), the colt can also count GI Hopeful S. winner Nutella Fella (Runhappy) in his extended female family.

To his inside and unveiling for the powerhouse WinStar and Siena Farms partnership is Rapoport (Consitution), who hails from the young broodmare Tiz Breathtaking (Tiznow), winner of the GIII Mazarine S. in Canada. This is the female family of the venerable Shared Account, dam of fellow Breeders' Cup champion Sharing, and of GSW Sparkle Blue (Hard Spun). The $300,000 KEESEP grad is trained by Todd Pletcher. Flying the flag for homebreds will be Godolphin's Nash (Medaglia d'Oro), who is out of a multiple graded stakes-winning half-sister to GSW Just Louise, dam of MGSW & MGISP Forbidden Kingdom. A princely $1.7 million KEESEP acquisition for Zedan Racing, Coach Prime (Quality Road) will debut from the far outside of a packed maiden for Bob Baffert. A half-brother to MSP Dr Oseran (Kitten's Joy), he hails most notably from the female line of Spunoutacontrol, who accounts for MGSW & MGISP Fed Biz; SW Spun Silk–dam of GISW Joking (Distorted Humor) and granddam of MGSW Red Carpet Ready (Oscar Performance); and the dam of three stakes winners on the New York circuit. Sunday’s Racing Insights: Pair Of Well-Bred Colts Battle On Debut At Churchill On Sunday

7th-CD, $120K, Msw, 2yo, 1m, 3:50 p.m.
At Churchill Downs Sunday, drawn to the extreme outside is BLOWN COVER (Gun Runner) who will make his first start for an ownership group which includes Spendthrift Farm and Gandharvi Racing. A $650,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase, the dark bay colt, bred by Machmer Hall and trained by Brad Cox, is the second offspring to make the races out of a dam who is a half-sister to GII Oaklawn H. hero Cyber Secret (Broken Vow).

Also debuting here is Track Phantom (Quality Road), another alum from that same sale who went for $500,000 to L and N Racing, Clark Brewster, and Jerry Caroom, with breeder Breeze Easy retaining a share. Out of GII Lexus Raven Run S. heroine Miss Sunset (Into Mischief), the Steve Asmussen trainee's yearling half-sister by Curlin just sold at Keeneland September for $1.1 million to Lauren Carlisle. Another Sunday Churchill maiden race under the same conditions includes Catching Freedom (Constitution). The $575,000 Keeneland September purchase bred by WinStar Farm, bought by Albaugh Family Stables, and trained by Brad Cox is out of GISP Catch My Drift (Pioneerof the Nile), who also produced SP Strava (Into Mischief) and GIII Peter Pan S. runner-up Bishops Bay (Uncle Mo).

Making the post just to his outside, we find Tis Charming (Omaha Beach). The dark bay colt trained by Ken McPeek who sold for $250,000 during Keeneland September is out of Derby Eve (Tiznow), who is a full-sister to GI Travers S. victor Colonel John. TJCIS PPS

Finally, over at rain-soaked Aqueduct, Spendalot (More Than Ready) will debut for CHP Racing. The Chad Brown trainee initially went for $240,000 to Cavalier Bloodstock during Keeneland November before selling to agent Mike Ryan for $650,000 in the same ring as a yearling. The gray filly is a full-sister to GII Wonder Again S. winner Consumer Spending. TJCIS PPS

OBS October Yearling Supplemental Catalog Available

The Supplemental Catalog for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2023 October Yearling Sale is now available via the OBS website and in printed form at the OBS sales grounds. Thirty-seven horses have been supplemented; in all 713 horses will be sold.

There are two sessions, set for Tuesday, Oct. 10 and Wednesday, Oct. 11. Hip No.'s 1-338 plus supplements 339-359 will be offered Tuesday and Hip No's 401-739 plus supplements 740-755 will be sold Wednesday. Both sessions will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The supplemental catalog adds substantial sire power to the sale. Flatter, Liam's Map and Munnings are represented, as are Nyquist, Oscar Performance, Quality Road, Spun to Run, Thousand Words and Win Win Win.

This group joins the large roster of sires in the original catalog, headed by Audible, Bernardini, Bolt d'Oro, Bucchero and Candy Ride (ARG). The list also includes Catalina Cruiser, City of Light, Complexity, Curlin's Honor, Game Winner, Girvin, Global Campaign, Good Magic, Gunnevera, Hard Spun, Honest Mischief, Improbable, Instagrand, Instilled Regard, Kantharos, Khozan, Maximum Security, McKinzie, Mendelssohn, Not This Time, Omaha Beach, Practical Joke, Tiz the Law, Union Rags, Vekoma, Vino Rosso, Volatile and War of Will.
