Cowboy Culture To Stand in Indiana

Cowboy Culture (Quality Road–English Willow, by Smart Strike) will stand the 2021 breeding season at Whitney Farms in Monrovia, Indiana.

Undefeated in two starts as a juvenile, Cowboy Culture was a leading turf horse on the Midwest circuit in 2017, highlighted by victories in the GIII Arlington Classic followed by the Centaur S. at Indiana Grand, which sits 40 minutes to the east of Whitney Farms.

Cowboy Culture will stand for an introductory fee of $2,500 live foal with an option to breed additional mares at $1,500 each. Breeders who fulfill three contracts will be rewarded with a guaranteed lifetime breeding right to the stallion.

Sunday’s Racing Insights: Well-Bred Juveniles Debuting All Over

Allen Stable and Shug McGaughey unveil Cafe Society (Empire Maker), a $135,000 KEESEP yearling turned $475,000 OBSAPR 2-year-old off a :10 flat breeze. Dam Full Tap (Tapit) was carrying Cafe Society when she brought $375,000 at the 2017 Keeneland November sale. The three-time winner, who was third in her Saratoga unveiling at two, is out of SW Miss Challenge (More Than Ready) and from the family of MGSW sprinter Ventana (Toccet). Juddmonte homebred Obligatory (Curlin) is out of SW Uno Duo (Macho Uno), a stakes-winning half to G1SW Etoile Montante (Miswaki), who in turn produced MGSW Starformer (Dynaformer). Beatbox (Pioneerof the Nile), the sixth-priciest yearling at Keeneland September last year at $2.1 million, makes a much-anticipated debut amid a field of well-bred newcomers. Bred by Three Chimneys Farm, who still owns the colt with e Five Racing, the May foal is a half to ‘TDN Rising Star’, MGISW and fellow Chad Brown trainee Guarana (Ghostzapper); and precocious SW and ‘Rising Star’ Magic Dance (More Than Ready). His second dam is GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff heroine Pleasant Home (Seeking the Gold). Flaxman Holdings homebred Tiwanaku (Tapit). Private Mission (Into Mischief), a $750,000 FTSAUG yearling buy for Baoma Corp., is out of SW Private Gift (Unbridled)–a $2.3-million 2008 Fasig-Tipton November purchase in foal to A.P. Indy. Private Gift has produced SW/GSP Secret Someone (A.P. Indy) as well as the dam of GISW Dunbar Road (Quality Road). She is a half to GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Secret Status (A.P. Indy). Private Mission’s impressive morning activity includes a :59 3/5 (2/16) spin from the gate Sept. 23 (XBTV Video). Godolphin homebred Frosteria (Frosted), meanwhile, Grade I-winning sprinter and 2007 GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff runner-up Hystericalady (Distorted Humor). That near $2.4-million earner sold the same November as Private Gift, across town, for $3 million at Keeneland. Hystericalady’s best runner to date has been the long-winded GSW and GISP turfer Lady Montdore (Medaglia d’Oro). Fasig-Tipton Adds 15 Supplemental Entries To November Sale

Fasig-Tipton has released the first group of supplemental entries to its 2020 November Sale. These supplemental entries are cataloged as Hips 265- 279:

Star of the Empire (Hip 265): Three-year-old daughter of Empire Maker is a half-sister to two stakes winners, including Grade 1 winner Nereid. Nereid is in turn the dam of Figarella's Queen, a Grade 3-placed stakes winner. Consigned as a broodmare prospect by Royal Oak Farm (Damian & Braxton Lynch), agent.
2020 f. Quality Road-Up (IRE) (Hip 266): Weanling filly by champion sire Quality Road is a half-sister to Group 1 placed Monarch of Egypt. Her dam, Up, is a multiple group stakes winning daughter of Galileo who also placed in G1 French One Thousand Guineas. Consigned by Lane's End, agent.
Fancier (Hip 267): Young mare's second foal is 2-year-old colt Get Her Number, recent winner of the G1 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 26. Get Her Number will make his next anticipated start in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Consigned by Vinery Sales, agent.
Synchrony (Hip 268): A stakes performer on both dirt and turf, this son of three-time leading sire Tapit is a six-time graded stakes winner of $956,652. From a prolific Pin Oak family, he is a half-brother to two stakes winners, including graded stakes winner Chocolate Kisses. Consigned as a stallion prospect by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Indelible (Hip 269): Daughter of Tiznow is a half-sister to Essential Quality, recent winner of the G1 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity. He is slated to make his next anticipated start in the Breeders Cup Juvenile. Inedlible is out of a graded stakes-placed half-sister to Champion Folklore, who is in turn the granddam of undefeated Japanese Champion Contrail. Contrail has swept the first two legs of the 2020 Japanese Triple Crown and is seeking to win the third leg, the Japanese St. Leger, on Oct. 25. Inthemidstofbiz (Hip 279): Four-year-old filly has won three consecutive races, including a three-length victory in the G2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes on Oct. 3 in her most recent start. Preakness: Pletcher ‘Weighing Out All Of Our Options’ With Happy Saver, Dr Post

Trainer Todd Pletcher said Sunday he is still unsure if he will enter Happy Saver or Dr Post in the Grade 1, $1 million Preakness October 3 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Md.

Owned by Wertheimer et Frere, Happy Saver, a chestnut son of Super Saver, is unbeaten in three lifetime starts, including a winning stakes debut in the Federico Tesio on September 7 at Laurel Park.

The Kentucky homebred worked a half-mile in 49.03 seconds over the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga on Friday morning.

“I like the way he worked. He's doing well,” Pletcher said. “I haven't decided yet. We'll just continue to survey what shakes out here.”

St Elias Stable's Dr Post, a last out fourth in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy on September 5 as the favorite, worked an easy half-mile in 50.06 seconds over the Oklahoma training track on Saturday morning. The son of Quality Road was a respective second and third in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes on June 20 and the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational on July 18 at Monmouth Park.

“We're weighing out all of our options. We'll try to sort it all out this week,” Pletcher said.

Pletcher also indicated that the Grade 1, $250,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup on October 10 against older horses going 1 1/4 miles would be a possible option for either horse should they skip the Preakness.

On Saturday, Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable and Stonestreet Stables' Likeable powered home to an 8 1/4-length maiden victory. The 2-year-old son of freshman sire Frosted extended his advantage at every point of call going the one-turn mile and registered an 81 Beyer for the win.

“We always liked him,” Pletcher said. “He had a solid debut but took a big step forward [Saturday]. He handled the stretch out well and galloped out strongly. We were very happy with it.”

Pletcher was non-committal to a next start but said a stakes race would likely be in order.

“We'll let the dust settle a little bit,” Pletcher said. “He'll probably move up into a stake of some sort. The [Grade 1, $250,000] Champagne [on October 10] is here, and he's now won here at the distance. It's also back in three weeks so we'll have to play it by ear.”

Bred in Kentucky by co-owner Stonestreet Stables, Likeable was purchased for $350,000 from last year's Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where he was consigned by Elm Tree Farm, and is out of the stakes-winning Medaglia d'Oro mare Dashing Debby, who also produced stakes winner and multiple graded stakes-placed Dawn the Destroyer.
