QEII The Pick For Nashwa On Saturday

Multiple Group 1 winner Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) will run in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. at Ascot on QIPCO British Champions Day, owner Blue Diamond Stud announced via X (Twitter) on Wednesday evening.

“Confirmed: Nashwa will run in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Saturday,” Imad Al Sagar's operation tweeted.

Al Sagar's homebred won both the G1 Prix de Diane and G1 Nassau S. as a 3-year-old for John and Thady Gosden. She added her third Group 1 in the Falmouth S. this July, and has three consecutive placings at the highest level later in the campaign. Third defending her title in the Nassau in August, she was a good second in the International S. at York later that month, and was most recently third in the Irish Champion S. in Ireland in September.

The one-mile QEII was not the only race on Champions Day under consideration for the regular mount of Hollie Doyle. The 10-furlong G1 QIPCO Champion S. was also a potential target until Wednesday evening's announcement.

Doyle said earlier this week, “I think she's very versatile and very effective whatever the ground and whatever the trip.

“You need horses like her, she's carried me now for the past two years and she always produces the goods.”

Facteur Cheval to Queen Elizabeth II on British Champions Day

Group 3 winner Facteur Cheval (Ire) (Ribchester {Ire}) will likely start next in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. on British Champions S. Day at Ascot if the anticipated wet weather holds, Team Valor's Barry Irwin said Sunday. The 4-year-old gelding was most recently third behind Sauterne (Fr) (Kingman {GB}) in the G1 Prix Du Moulin de Longchamp on Sept. 3.

“It's the plan and he could run on any type of surface, but he's better with some give in the ground and the wetter the better, like when he won the Prix Perth at Saint-Cloud,” Irwin said. “We have skipped some other races he could have run in waiting for the race next weekend figuring it would be really wet again.”

“I think at this point we're looking at it as much, if not more, as a test to see how he handles that [quicker] going at this point of his life, as our goal next year is the G1 Dubai Turf. This will be a good test to see how he handles that type of track. That mile up the straight at Ascot is more like a mile and eighth and that's the distance of the Dubai Turf.”

Nashwa Will Skip Breeders’ Cup In Favour Of Champions Day; Will Remain In Training Next Year

Imad Al Sagar's Blue Diamond Stud silks will be carried by his star filly Nashwa (GB) (Frankel {GB}) for another year, but the multiple Group 1 winner will skip the Breeders' Cup in favour of competing at QIPCO British Champions Day later this month, The Sun reported on Thursday.

Both the one-mile G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. or the 1 1/4-mile G1 QIPCO Champion S. are under consideration for the 4-year-old at Ascot on Oct. 21. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the regular mount of Hollie Doyle was third in last year's G1 Oaks before taking the French equivalent and the G1 Nassau S. and running second in the G1 Prix de l'Opera. Fourth in the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf last November, Nashwa added a second at Group 3 level in June before padding her Group 1 resume in the Falmouth S. in July. She has run third in both the Aug. 3 G1 Nassau S. and Sept. 9 G1 Irish Champion S. in her last three starts, with a second in the G1 International S. in late August in between.

Al Sagar told The Sun's Matt Chapman, “Nashwa is heading to Ascot and is entered in both the QEII and Champion. She will run on one or the other.

“There will be no Breeders' Cup for her but Ascot is not her last race. She will train on as a 5-year-old.”

New Goffs Sale at Ascot on Champions Day

The latest addition to the European sales calendar will be held on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot when Goffs stages a select auction of horses in training before racing on Saturday, October 21.

“The Ascot brand is the most prestigious in global racing and we are truly honoured to have been chosen to conduct this sale on QIPCO British Champions Day,” said Goffs Group chief executive Henry Beeby.

“We believe this sale has huge potential for two key reasons – timing and location. October is the traditional end-of-season window for selling, while the spectacular location of Ascot Racecourse on Britain's richest race day offers access to a captive audience of international buyers and many of racing's principals who will be in attendance.”

He added, “Goffs has experience and flair when it comes to staging boutique sales, no more so than at our London Sale on the eve of Royal Ascot, which is another perfect example of right time, right place. Goffs London has sold more seven figure horses-in-training than any other British HIT Sale over the past ten years and we will follow London's lead in how we position and promote the sale at Ascot.”

The sale, conducted from the winner's podium, is expected to consist of roughly 12 elite horses in training and will take place in the parade ring.

Alastair Warwick, chief executive at Ascot Racecourse, said, “We are delighted to be working with Goffs on QIPCO British Champions Day to introduce this unique sale. Improving and innovating is very important to all of those involved with the day and we hope the Goffs QIPCO British Champions Day Sale at Ascot will add another exciting dimension to the experience for participants and racegoers alike.”
